I become member of Roko in Portsmouth in 2011. I choose them because of apparently clean site and also because I thought that a high price will sort customers and staff also.At the presentation of site I ask details about the swimming pool ( was my point of interest) and they assure me that is most of the time almost empty, so I will not feel that I'm swimming in a bus. I sign the contract and my nightmare began. The swimming pool( my only point of interest)was very crowded and nobody did a... (read more)

I have been a member of Roko Chiswick for a year now. A friend originally told me about the club and he had a guest pass which he offered to me and I was really impressed with the facilities. It doesn't get too overcrowded and the gym is really spacious and modern. I have read some complaints but don't know if some people are talking about Roko's other clubs, but the Chiswick one is good! I believe it's more expensive than the other branches but I think that's because it's in London, so I... (read more)

You are only a membership number to them, after nearly 2 years with them, never missing a payment. And only signing a year contract they try to rope you in for 3months longer once you leave which I won't be paying. Join pure gym, 24/7 with the same facilities for well under half the price and as their 24/7 they won't make up their Christmas opening and closing times like roko did. (read more)

Changing rooms are usually dirty, toilets worse. Free weights area limited and machines usually breakdown. The Personal Training staff dont usually bother to assist. I took some personal training sessions there and found that the instructors dont seem to push hard enough to get you results and at £50 an hour it was a waste of money. Membership contracts are a con and a rip off............... DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR, DONT TOUCH THIS GYM WITH A BARGEPOLE (read more)

I joined Roko gym in York last year Positives: Large building with lots of parking space near a large Tesco. The machines were new and the spa area well structured. A Costa coffee in the large lounge area. Negatives: Service by gym staff was average. No real enthusiasm. Difficult to find somebody to ask for advice or help. Big gym area with only one fountain!!! At the end of contract you continue to pay monthly which is the norm but they need 3 months notice to cancel your membership. So... (read more)

To list all of the faults with this place would require several volumes of visceral prose but suffice to say the facilities are regularly closed without any apparent justifiable cause and standards continue to nose dive at an alarming rate. Specifically, the policy of closing the outdoor pool for months at a time seems to have the members up in arms almost as much as the arrogant response from reception that 'only 2 per cent of people use it' which is a factually inaccurate observation from... Rokos gym in gillingham are theifs when you sign a 12 month contract they expect a written letter at the end otherwise they will keep charging you which is stupid and then if you don't pay they will threaten you with a ccj very pofessional , so you end having to pay 185 to roko and. 70 to crs ( credit resoultion service) there gym is rubbish the employees are rude and think they are great when they either do steroids or orange pigs . I really rate Roko Chiswick. I've been a member of a few gyms and this is by far the best. The gym is huge and there's never problems queueing for machines or overcrowding. Love the Fitlinxx equipment, which really helps to track workouts. The staff are friendly and polite, especially the in the reception area. Changing rooms are always clean with loads of space. Only critisism is sometimes the music is so loud in the gym area you can't hear your own headphone music. Also my membership... (read more)

I made an appointment to visit Gillingham Roko Gym yesterday (2/1/12) so that I could find out more about what it has to offer with a view to having a look around and signing up for membership. I arrived promptly and was asked by the receptionist to wait for a member of staff in the cafe area. Forty five minutes later I was still waiting for a member of staff to come to see me. Like another reviewer, I have been a member since it opened and I think it has declined, but only gently. This is the fourth gym I have belonged to, and like the others it is light on maintenance but they do show an interest when you mention problems and they are generally fixed fairly quickly. the facilities are generally holding up OK and the staff show a little interest, though they don't know how to use the Fitlinxx (read more)

Having been a member at Roko in York for some time, I can not fault the service and attitude of the staff both at reception and on the gym floor. Im a typical gym user and visit 3-4 times per week, they open hours which suit my needs and offer the latest in both classes and equipment. My favorite perk of being a member at Roko is the ability to use Fitlinxx, Im amazed not many other gyms offer this service as it provides a real incentive to work out. Have been a member of Roko York for 7 months (writing Sep 2011), at first i was delighted with the service and facilities but then a massive dip, the Pulley machines were out of service for a whole month, other bits of equipment were also looking tired and motivation and morale seemed a big issue for the staff. I have been a member of roko York for a couple of months now and I'm really happy with the quality of service I've been getting. The staff are all really friendly while my personal trainer has been really helpful in improving my motivation and my general fitness levels. When I joined Roko I stipulated that hygiene was extremely important to me and was assured that it was just as important to the management team. The gym and changing area was often dirty and I soon regretted getting tied into the membership. This is a review of the Roko health club in York. The building is small, with hardly any equipment; it gets VERY crowded. The pool is too shallow - NOT for the serious swimmer. Most classes are over-subscribed and the creche is ALWAYS full, unless you book 4 weeks in advance - pointless! The membership consultant lied to me, my wife and sister. When signing for a 12 month contract, we explicitly asked several times "Can we cancel the membership at ANY time?". The repeated answer was "Yes, as... (read more)

1. Forced into a year's contract.
2. It can take up to 6 months after that year to cancel a membership.
3. Insufficient weights area (other people hogging the facilities).
4. Annoying screaming kids in the way.
5. Very restricted weights area.
6. Very restricted swimming pool + kids.
You are better off running outdoors (natural, resistance to gradients, weather; and/or purchasing your own weights etc.

I am a keen gym goer and have had experiences of a few gyms and i can easily say that this by far is the best. Roko Chiswick is Ok as far as gyms go in terms of facilities etc. However what I find most annoying is the fact that their entertainment systems NEVER work and even if you complain/ ask them to do something about it, it makes absolutely no difference. Although Roko Chiswick Bridge at first seemed the ideal choice, I have lived to regret signing the membership contract ever since.
Whilst the equipment is indeed new, it is poorly serviced, meaning that it is often either partly or fully unuseable. The gym 'instructors' are unhelpful, unless you of course pay for their time as a personal training session, so highlighting things to get them rectified is a pointless task.
The showers and changing areas aren't the cleanest, but they are...

Good facilities and I met some nice people at the Wednesday night running club, but I have to concur with many others here that the standard of customer service is pretty poor. The management seem to be unable to exercise any discretion or common sense and exhibit an utter inability to make things happen. The most obvious example of this is the appalling air conditioning in the gym: it is frequently out of order and without it the gym is MUCH too hot and humid to exercise at even moderate... I found this review very helpful because...I've had the same experiences, excellent range of facilities (when working), friendly members, but that the management fail to acknowledge there are any problems - particularly with cleanliness. When I complained I was told I had nothing to complain about & the problems I was reporting simply did not exist, but interestingly the manager mentioned his frustration at having to deal with an increasing number of "unfounded" complaints. Hmmmmm interesting!

I joined the Roko gym in Nottingham simply because it was nearest to me. I have to say that I found the facilities good, but the administration and management of the gym is appalling. I found this review very helpful because I joined the Nottingham club January 2010 and have been disappointed with the management of facilities. There is no supervision around the pool area and members are openly allowed to flout the rules, jumping in, ducking and diving, children making a nuisance of themselves in adult only swimming lanes and so it goes on. Free session with the personal trainer- no fitness plan offered, just showed me a few machines and said that FitLinxx recording method was a waste of time.

Such an unfriendly club. We had paid for our children to have swimming lessons at Roko Chiswick's pool and on their 4th visit, my wife wasn't allowed to take them to the pool because she's not a member. I joined this Roko Health Club when it opened in April 08. Was pleased to begin with - good atmosphere, equipment, staff etc. Since January 09 with a influx of more memebrs the standards appear to have dropped. Gillingham Roko leaves a lot to be desired so excellent choice in not jooning. I was a member for 5 months in 2010, they have ridiculous cancellation policies of 3 months even if you're relocating and the pool is too small to actually SWIM in...overrun with children so you're swimming around splashing kids. Then gym is actually ok, I will give credit where it is due. The membership staff are non-existant once you sign up. Best thing I did was leaving. Hope you find somewhere better, remember to read the T&C's and make actual use of your membership! You can do it!
