“False Advertising ”

★★☆☆☆

written by NickGoode225 on 16/11/2018

My partner and I wanted to join DW Poole/Branksome gym so we did the 3 day free trial and enjoyed the actual gym facilities, but the customer service leaves much to be desired. We were quoted different membership prices and benefits by various staff and it almost seemed as though they were each making up their own deals, because no ones quotes aligned. One pulling factor for us deciding to join was a competition you could enter, to go in the draw to win a £1000 DW voucher as well as being automatically given a “guaranteed £25 voucher”. So we joined the gym and signed up for one year membership. When it came to entering the competition, the staff said it had closed last month, despite the fact the poster advertising this competition was still up in the gym for the last 2 weeks. The staff member then told me to call DW head office to see if they could help, but H/O said it was out of their control and told me to talk to the gym. All in all, it seems the staff at DW need proper training and that would really help their customers feel valued. The gym facilities are good though, which makes me feel as though my one year membership was still a good decision.

“is this a public or private gym? ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Freddye228 on 29/05/2018

Poor service, attitude from staff, broken machines taking weeks to fix, pool closures, swimming lessons, having to choose a time to use the pool in case its mother and child swim , broken plumbing/toilet facilities and cold showers. All for the bargain price of £38 per month. Strangely the website has a slightly different tag line. David Lloyd, virgin active, you are welcome in Halifax.

“Customer Service- What Is Customer Service”

★★☆☆☆

written by Marinf493 on 17/06/2017

Nice quality equipment but bullying of customers by INSTRUCTORS is not uncommon (especially if you are foreign). So if you enjoy being filmed during your classes -when you are all red and sweaty, groped by a balding Casanova who needs to adjust your pelvis to feel better, bullied into lifting too much weight until you give up the class, enjoy looking at not- 19-anymore Barbie’s flappy stomach skin for 40 minutes + and many more then this is the right lace for you…also canceling a membership is very very difficult and everyone knows this.

“poor management standards”

★★☆☆☆

written by scorpio9 on 24/05/2017

I have been a member for quiet a few years. BUT now the did a refit for 5 days. meaning we loss 5 days membership money and they wont just add 5 days to end of every one membership for not providing there service. they closed upstairs changing room 2 weeks before refit the cafe over 1 week and started painting the car park door area was closed and started painting. After 5 days the only thing changed really is the upstairs gym carpet and paint and part new equipment. there was a promise of a completely new gym this is a lie. any new members joining are getting a 10 pound a month price increase. so up to 48 pound a month. for new members I can not see the price is worth what the gym still looks like. chipped tiles in changing room pool area not painted. doors not painted. jacuzzi still not working after 2 months of being broken. they put up new bulbs and shower heads and thats it in the pool area. steam room still has a sharped edge tile and missing grouting. the ceiling is unpainted. and 1 light still needs new bulb as before refit. changing room as lower light so not good for people with poorer eye sight. a new tower rail in shower room but when old one was took off it left a over 3 ft black dirt line which was not cleaned and even 2 days after reporting it was still there. still faulty lockers some hinges not attached to door. tv has been turn sideways an old 2008 sanyo large back tv. such a poor image. cafe drops the hand made items to 2 machines. same old tables and chairs They dont seem to care about customers. sent email to management and no responce.

“Management are rubbish”

★★☆☆☆

written by Moshel297 on 24/05/2017

To begin with my local dw fitness was a fitness first club but had an overhaul around the time of Christmas and the dw sport club took over. Having started a 4 month contract (in December) with fitness first It ended in April 2017 so I stopped going knowing that the contract had ended. I get an email last week (14th may, 2017) saying I owe the company money and the issues would be resolved using third party debt collectors. I call dw to sort the issue and they say I owe them £64.60 out of no where. Apparently I have to call up to cancel a 4 month contact something that no one at the gym or on the phone told me. They suggested staying on to avoid the administration fee. The cheek of it. Won't be going back there again! Absolutley fuming! It would have been nice to know I have to cancel a contract even though it's 4 months.

“Filton - Bristol Review”

★★☆☆☆

written by HonestMcPhee on 27/02/2017

New Tier 1 gym in Filton. Dirty. Zero customer service. Poor class selection at peaks times. One or the other. Great equipment, too dirty to want to use. Not enough toilets. Changing rooms unclean. Nothing good to say about this place.

“Notice period is almost 2 months (not one)”

★★☆☆☆

written by vyogi on 02/11/2016

I was a member of DW sports Newport for almost 2 years. They have nice gym facility, but not maintained properly. I found staff not very friendly. Entering into the gym required one of their staff member to scan your card (You cant do it by yourself). This may take up to 5-10 wait in the queue every day. Their one month notice period to terminate the memebership is not actually one month notice. You have to give the notice before 20th of the month. If you give it on the first of any month still you have to pay for the next month as it will not be one calender month's notice (This is as per their staff). I hope any future or exisiting customer will help this review.

“Hit and miss...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 04/10/2016

Overall disappointing with lukewarm reception from the gym staff who can be perceived as surly at worst to grudgingly welcoming at best. I have a corporate membership for which my work ID was required to be shown for computer verification. After being repeatedly asked for it and supplying it, it became a little irritating. The cavernous gym space, whilst an impressive size, is poorly lit. As in a lot of gyms, there are elements of testosterone hierarchy where if you are not genetically inclined to rhino proportions then the perceived attitude from the "big boys" is that you are in their way. This means the atmosphere can feel a little "tense". The changing rooms are in poor condition also. All in all, only adequate for a repressed workout and I'll be looking for alternatives in the area.

“Dissapointed”

★★☆☆☆

written by NS18 on 27/08/2016

Staff were arrogant. I visited the gym and swimming pool for the first time. When i asked the woman working there about how to use a certain machine, she said she doesn't know. I don't think this is the type of staff you want when paying £38 a month. The changing rooms are horrible, dirt and hair all over floors and benches, the staff went there multiple times and did nothing to clean it up. The actual gym and swimming pool were good but definitely not worth the money!

“Children's swimming lessions - nightmare”

★★☆☆☆

written by valwood on 11/07/2016

I am a member of Bromborough DW Gym. I joined with the intention of swimming most evenings after work for about half an hour. For the first couple of years it was lovely and relaxing, then they started to incorporate swimming lessons most evenings. It is an absolute nightmare, the pool is roped off and the lessons take place in one section of the pool. Everyone is now trying to swim in a very small space, in the past the very fast swimmers would normally use the roped off area The instructors are loud and shouting instructions to the children, everyone is squashed now in a small area of the pool. This goes on most evenings from 3.30 to gone 6 most evenings. You cannot move in the changing rooms, as kids running around. This is a very small leisure pool that was once lovely to swim in, now it is a battle. Every weekend as well children have lessons, basically every time I go swimming children are in the pool. I joined thinking it was an adult only gym.

“Uninterested ”

★★☆☆☆

written by MarceloDavis on 06/04/2016

The shower and toilet facilities are not of a good hygiene level. Customers are of a poor level leaving toilets and shower cubicles in a dirty state. Toilet seats and floor covered in urine etc. Shower cubicles are left with empty bottles packets and plastic bags, hair all over floor and down walls. Poor range of classes and uninterested staff. Good range of gym equipment. Pool, steam room and jacuzzi. Empty bottles again left at sides. Maybe centre requires more bins or customers need to spoken to. Posters to customers with instructions of cleanliness might help.

“Great on the surface, but...”

★★☆☆☆

written by SteveAberdeen on 09/03/2016

I've been a member at DW since 2008 when it was still JJB sports. It's a great gym, with great equipment and facilities. The problems arise when anything goes wrong. Because stuff is all done from the top down, if a piece of equipment breaks it will take weeks, if not months to be replaced. Also, my wife's membership fee just jumped from £29 to £40 - I know people who are still paying £28 just because they've kept quiet but when my wife tries to be honest, her membership fee is bumped up! Unfortunately because of the two above reasons, DW are losing out on two members as I'm not paying upwards of £70 a month between us to go to a gym with broken equipment and poor customer service.

“Is this gym for adults or children?”

★★☆☆☆

written by Beebe1956 on 24/09/2015

I recently went back to try DW again (St Helens Branch) 28 days for £28. Its been three years since I canceled my original membership at DW and I thought I would give them another go just to see if they had improved. The staff were friendly and helpful, the gym had improvements made to it so far so good. I did my work out and was looking forward to a nice relaxing swim/sauna & jaccuzi and that's where it all went wrong folks...I entered the pool area to the ear pierceing screeches of children! I thought whats the hell is going on? There were children running around, jumping in the pool clearly causing distress to the adults who were there to have a swim and what suprized me more was there parents just watching ignorantly as if they were down the local swimming baths, I asked one of the staff if they could kindly divide the pool up so the children and adults could have there own space (I felt sorry for two elderly ladies who were getting splashed and one was hit by a large foam float) the member of staff did divide the pool but this didn't stop the noise. The second time I went, I nervously entered the pool area to the horror of an extremely loud over weight fitness instructor screaming into one of those microphones strapped to her head doing pool fitness it was very loud and ear piercing and I decided then that enough was enough. I never returned and never will. "Parents if you want to teach your children to swim! Show some consideration for the people who pay a premium fee to excersise in peace and take them down the local baths" DW you are sacrificing the happiness of your current paying customers while foolishly trying to recruit the future members of DW by allowing screaming children into an adult gym. All children need to learn to swim so take your children to the local swimming baths where there are safety attendants and qualified instructors not to a private gym where there are no attendants just adults paying a premium to swim in peace. Sorry DW another customer lost!

“Such a shame”

★★☆☆☆

written by orMcDaniel1978 on 15/09/2015

Such a shame for a club that started so well more than a decade ago. Poor equipment, cleaning, customer relationships, and terrible value for money. I wonder if it is going to pieces intentionally.

“Middlesbrough dw. Glad to be resigning”

★★☆☆☆

written by Rickyc304 on 12/09/2015

I have been a member for a number of years and the standards within the gym is gradually getting worse. The number of classes has significantly reduced, the gym looks old and in need of updating. Machines can take a long time to be repaired. The pool and shower area does not appear to be cleaned regularly, there is often large clumps of hair floating in the pool. The communication within the club is very poor regarding classes being cancelled or the pool being shut. The staff are surly at best, rude at worse. I am glad that there is a viable alternative to join.

“DW Gym in Cardiff”

★★☆☆☆

written by Tristan413 on 14/05/2015

Equipment: Not many stations and once something gets broken, it’s not fixed sooner than within 3,4 weeks. Instructors: Most of them do not respect others. They take the stations, talk on the phone, and just don’t care if someone is waiting in a queue. There is no way that any of them correct the newbies. They look only after the people they train. Gym is quite clean but if e.g. empty bottle or tissue lies in the middle, no one pick it up. About 90% of the members don’t put the weights back, including most of the Instructors. I just have a feeling that staff there do whatever they want, there is no management there.

“turning 60 ”

★★☆☆☆

written by LB19032015 on 19/03/2015

I have been a member ever since the Gym opened While browsing the D W site I came across senior specials 21pounds 95p. I rang reception to ask how long this deal had been on, which I was then informed all seniors paid this amount, which I then asked why was I paying 23 pounds when I turned 60 in October last year. My big mistake I should have informed them. looking at the reviews which are not good by any standard , you would think they would look after there long standing members, it strikes me they are only interested in new members not looking after loyal members. I have cancelled my membership.

“Dw sports fitness St Helens Merseyside”

★★☆☆☆

written by KylaPatton200 on 23/01/2015

I have been attending gyms for over 20 years and approximately the last ten of which have been at dw. I initially joined this gym when it first opened as it is in a convnient location, cleaner thanthe previous gyms i had attended and had suitable opening times, with free classes. I have decided to leave the gym as it is too crowded, pool is always cloudy, started charging for classes. I did attend spin classes but these became hit and miss with the standard of instruction( some instructors didnt even seem that fit continually stopping to fiddle with the music, which was often too loud ). Now considering ive been going to this gym for over ten years when I first started I had a conversation with a female instuctor however since that time I have not been approached by an instructor to discuss my aims , goals, training equipment use (thats right ten years) Imagine how this would make you feel if you were inexperienced, you'd probably stop gong and continue to pay for gym membership you werent using ( maybe this is their aim). A possible explanation could be, when I go to the gym I' m very focused on what i'm doing Ie I dont stand around posing but try to get the most out of my time there and the instructors dont want to disturb me as I seem to know what I'm doing or maybe its because the instructors are intimidated by someone who is knowledgeable, and probably fitter than them or maybe its because they are'nt interested in customer care. I cancelled my membership but a further payment has been taken so I've cancelled the direct debit myself.

My advice is forget DW sports and join puregym! DW's managent were at the least insulting and devious!! Puregym is a month to month contract with great facilities and is 24 hours. Avoid DW like the Ebola virus!

Went to my DW Gym today and asked "Is there any discount for disabled people" "We do not offer any discount for disabled people" was the reply. "Any help at all" "Help is not available" was the reply. If you have a puregym nearby take jakehoyle's advice.
