JJB Fitness Club is fine, if you have REALLY low expectations; just don't expect to find they're eager to maintain the place, fulfil their contractual obligations or show respect to customers. They sell memberships well beyond the capacity of the club so it's always crowded, and don't be fooled by the pools - if you want swimming as part of your training the short, shallow, crowded pools are a joke. They also won't timetable extra classes even for the most popular activities so they're too crowded to get a workout - it's all about providing the absolute minimum they can get away with.

Been a member at JJB Gym St Helens now for about a year - really unimpressed with the place. Not only is it too small (the one in Widnes I think is twice the size) and gets overcrowded. They also let parents take their kids into the (too small) pool - kids being what they are, they want to jump in and splash around and makes it impossible to for the rest of us to actually swim! JJB should remember it's a fitness club first and foremost not a kiddie pool with a gym attached. Not good enough and ...- Read unhappygymer's review (105 words)

I train at the JJB Oldham Fitness club. This club is too small, it has too many members, so JJBs tactic for helping this, is to charge a £75 "joining fee" - which, as the company has been in trouble for some time, has the opposite effect - they are desperate to get this fee and still sell the club to new members, they have offers frequently to bring in new members when it is seriously over subscribed. The club itself has the kit you need, but as it is overused there is always something bro ...- Read ross79's review (399 words)

For a guy that has never step foot in a gym before and has pondered over joining one for over 12 months and finally taking the plunge last March I can honestly say I won't be recommending the Blackburn (Haslingden Road) to any of my friends,
I'm split down the middle concerning the staff, I'd say a few of the reception staff are friendly and it is nice to be welcomed into any establishment, but others just take your card and swipe it and actually make it look hard work.. I mean come on love I k ...- Read Guest's review (276 words)

There have been 3 promotions during January for new members even though the gym is busy. This does not seem to get any quieter throughout the year. At my gym I Always have to wait for a machine and can never get into classes because they are always overbooked.- Read skelly520's review (61 words)

Good value for money. I would say that JJB Oldham is good value for money, but is it small and cramped and busy and does need a little money spending on it - eg mould on ceiling tiles in toilets and shower area, that sort of thing.
Have been to the Trafford one and the Blackburn one and they are far better - bigger, newer and very good value. Always very very busy whatever time you go
Small gym and machines all cramped together
You have too book ahead for classes rather than just turn up ...- Read Scattycat21's review (96 words)

I feel that some of the new members of staff (youngest) staff can seem rude and need to smile and be more polite. I am particularly disappointed with some of the cleaning staff.
The cleaning staff seem to just try and keep out of the way and appear to do more running down other members of staff than cleaning. I think the place really needs a good clean. I was about to bring along two friends to join, but after consideration, I decided not to recommend due to the place seeming unclean and un ...- Read estelle's review (309 words)

Would be nice to have more variety in the classes. Would be nice to know the person who gave you your first introduction or program will be there tomorrow or for that matter the third person would still be there. It is a good gym, bring your little i pod, do your workout and get results.- Read alerism's review (115 words)

I've been to various JJB clubs over the past 3 years. Both new and old, and they're all fantastic.
They offer better quality and standard than the pricey likes of David Lloyd and Next Generation, but at roughly half the cost.
Whats great is that JJB never stop working to improve their already extremely high standard of Fitness Facility.
The likes of Fitness First, Esporta, etc. really want to stand up and take notice.
I know for a fact that JJB has shut down numerous local Fitness First gyms an ...- Read Guest's review (209 words)

The club is OK but members of staff are very rude in my opinion. There are problems with the lockers, toilets, drinking water, etc. Do not make the same mistake I did. Stay away from JJB!- Read lalobba's review (64 words)

I have been a member at JJB for 6 months and I can't wait to leave. The staff are unfriendly the machines are always dirty and the pool has plasters in it!! My friend goes to a new gym at The Sporting Lodge and I think I'll join there. It's cheaper and looks clean!- Read karen211's review (76 words)

The equiment is always braking down takes weeks to mend. No air con not worked in months and no cleaner on all day. The gym charges plenty a month so surely they can afford to mend the equipment. I have been a member for 3yrs now and if I could find a better gym near were I live I would cancel my membership tomorrow.- Read hageys's review (68 words)

Joined JJB Kidderminster, was treated to a receptionist who was more bothered with doing her nails then attending to me and the 5 people behind me, Cant deny that the gym products were good and got on well while being there.Last month went in and had my locker broken into. sent for manager whos exact words were "im afraid this isnt my problem, using the lockers is at your own risk".I explained that no one had told me this and she said that it was still was nothing to do with her and walked off.I ...- Read Guest's review (135 words)

In my experience gyms are very testosterone based places, JJB gyms are very much different. There are members from all walks be it fit and wanting to tone up or overweight and wanting to burn fat. Personal training helped me lose weight with a weekly hour plan. Cafe serves delicious, healthy food for a reasonable price, so I don't feel the need to snack at all! Lovely helpful staff, easy to get to, affordable. An all round joyous experience!- Read Guest's review (121 words)
