I think it depends on the type of hair you've got. If your hair curls easily (like mine) - buy it, it the fastest and easiest hair styler to use. Plus it's cheap and the curls look great! If, however, your hair is extremaly hard to style (like my housemate's) - don't buy it. (read more)

I can honestly say that this is the worst appliance I have ever bought! It doesn't curl my hair at all, in fact I would say my hair looked straighter after clamping, twisting and dragging the plates through it. I watched the online video of how to use it and read the instructions but it simply does not work. Complete waste of money, i'm taking it back to exchange for a wand as it is not fit for purpose. I happen to think that the Babyliss You Curl is by far the best curling tool that I have ever used. I takes me about 5-10 minutes to produce the best curls that last all day - no problems here! Stick with it and once you've perfected the right technique there's no going back! (read more)

I bought this last year, March 2010 around. It was my first curler and I saw it on the Argos catalog. I looked reviews up on the internet especially looking at the official website. So I thought to myself it looks really easy and god easy as straightening? Wow! So when i went home heated up very quick. I got my first curl in my around 5th attempt and it was a really nice curl but as I got to around the 3rd curl my hair was getting straighter more than curly. So go invest in a wand. I'm going... I recieved these curlers as a gift for my birthday. Me and my mum tried them out a couple of weeks after, and we got nothing, even after reading the manuals and watching the online video, so I put them up and I haven't used them for a while, but last night, I tried them again, and I did get curls, and they were just like the model on the website, but after 15 minutes, the curls had gone. Never witten a review before but this product is a joke. If it takes so much practice before you "get the hang of it" then why does it claim to be so easy? I wasnt looking to spend this much money on something that wouldn't work straight away - I have a 13 month old son and so I get about 10 minutes to do my hair, I dont have hours (I just spend 3 hours watching to stupid video and reading the instructions, washing and drying my hair to see if that helped) - and not even a curl!!!!! At first i could not work them at all! i was just getting straight hair, i even used them as straighteners once! But i have recently started using them again, and all of a sudden i have got the hang of it! What i learnt it makes better curls with smaller sections of hair so.. curler hair = smaller sections ! This is the first review of a product I have ever written. I feel so strongly about how awful this product is that I just wanted to warn other customers about buying this product. IT DOESN'T WORK! I brought this product at £38.99 for my daughter and I to use. We watched the internet video and followed the instructions. I got this product for christmas in 2009 and i have tried it atleast 10 times and it doesnt work :@ i have naturally straight hair and nothing seems to curl my hair so when i saw the advert on tv i thought this might work as i have always wanted curly hair but i was ver disappointed when it didnt work. i dont think people are giving these curlers a chance.
i got the you curl for xmas and was disappointed when they did not curl my hair on the first try, so i washed my hair and tried again !IT WORKED! but only for a short time because the "cooling plates" heat up if they are on for too long.
so to use these curlers to there full potential you need to wash your hair before use and when they stop curling the hair just leave them to cool and then continue curling your hair.

Please Do Not buy this product!!I bought these on the strength of how much I love my babyliss hair straighteners. Even though I didnt pay the full retail price I feel it was an absolute waste of money. The plates, rather than curling my hair, straightened it with the added bonus of frequently pulling my hair out. i tried it once and it didn't work, so i watched the video and copied it exactly and it still wouldn't do it. But then I tried to do it agin and got some waves and kinks but NO curls. I think it is not really worth its price and very hard to use. I like the way the product is described and is easy to hold, but I don't like the fact that they say it is as easy as straightening because this is a lie. Straightening is much, much quicker. it is a bit tricky to get the hang of it but once you get it its quick and brilliant results. i disagree with other reviews as they have not given the Babyliss You Curl enough of a chance. i have very long hair and i find that these can curl the whole length unlike tongs :) (read more)

so i went out and spent my 30 quid on these 'Babyliss You Curl' curlers...
came home thrilled to try them, and when i did, NOTHING, not even one curl...
but i practiced, and about the third time round they worked great! id done the bottom layer of hair and it was lovely, tried the second and it didnt work....
so im thinking its practice? like..how good you are with styling.

Babyliss You Curl creates really good curls. When curling my hair I found the curlers really quick in heating up and sometimes produced great curls however other times just left my hair flat. Overall they are the best curlers I have had however could be improved (read more)

I found the instructions on how to use Babyliss You Curl hard to understand so I watched a video on the website which showed you how to use them. I did exactly the same thing and my hair remained straight, in fact it was as if I'd used straighteners! The instructions say you are to twist the curl to help it stay but I had NO curls at all.
Really disappointing, I'm going to take them back and ask for a refund or exchange.

- they don't curl your hair
-they fry it instead
-they straighten more than curl
-they smell burnt before use
-you burn your fingers trying to turn it
-don't work for long hair at all
-the "curls" dont last

Babyliss You Curl worked a treat,and I had lovely Ghd style curls with minimum effort. They automatically turn off if you forget to turn them off which I'm really impressed by, I don't know how many times I've freaked out on a night out thinking I've left my straightnersplugged in. I decided to use this because i was fed up fighting with my straighteners when trying to curl my hair, I always had a great finish with them but on some parts it just wouldn't quite curl like i wanted and i often came away with burns on my fingers where I'd accidentally placed them on the plates when trying to finish my style. My hairdresser often use straighteners to curl, and I have achieved this look myself, but found it a bit difficult, so thought these would be the perfect solution. I seen the Babyliss You Curl advertised on the T.V and thought it looked amazing and easy to use however once getting it home I tried it out and I was sorely dissappointed and angry. I felt it was a waste of time. It was very frustrating as I followed the instructions and even watched the video clip from babyliss website, half an hour later I was ready for throwing it out the window!!
I feel this was a waste of my good money and time, I just hope Argos will give me my cash back as I am raging!

I bought the Babyliss You Curl with high hopes but was so disappointed I took it back to Boots for a refund (top tip - electrical items that they sell are returnable if you are not satisfied with them). For information - my hair is long, fine and naturally dead straight. Despite watching the instruction video I found that the curler produced mixed results in creating a curl, sometimes needing two or three passes over the same section of hair to curl it. I was very excited about this product as although I have a natural wave in my hair I always curl it when I go out. But I was sorely disappointed, I really liked the ideology behind them and couldn't wait to use them but the curls didn't form properly and fell out immediately even after I'd been on website to watch video of how to use them. Really pleased with the babyliss you curl, I have thick long hair and needed something good. On trying the item found it very difficult and did not seem to work so kept at it until I successfully produced a curl, there is definitely a technique to this and it is simply to find a smallish section about 1 inch of hair and grip hard on the first section the straightening bit then about half way down when you are about to twist loosen your grip not to loose or to hard you have to find the right... The Babyliss You Curl practically pulled my hair out because the plates are so sticky and cheap in my opinion.
I thought the curls in my hair were rubbish and I would have been better off buying a cheap pair of tongs. Babyliss charge nearly £40 for these. If I had known I wouldn't have paid £1 for these.

I can not comprehend that anyone can use the Babyliss You Curl effectively. It seems to pull my hair out, does not even create a wave, let alone a curl. The only use I have found for these is to STRAIGHTEN my fringe!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am upset. Babyliss You Curl - My advice is if at first you don't succeed, try and try again. You seriously need to keep at it, my first few attempts looked well let's just say not very impressive! But after a while I managed to get the wrist action right and ended up with some beautiful curls. I agree that they can sometime catch your hair and pull, but using a smaller section of hair worked for me. I have fairly fine hair but a lot of it and it's practically poker straight naturally. I have got really thick her and I didn't believe that 180 degree would work but I got it wrong because there perfect! I read lots of bad reviews on the internet but thought id take a chance- and it really paid off! I got the Babyliss You Curl straighteners today and i'm so happy with them. I've always had trouble curling my hair with my straighteners but this was so easy. For my hair type (quite fine) they worked perfectly- I couldn't be happier! (read more)

Some people would prefer tongs to this but I like it with a lot of practices it could be perfect as it says on the box its all in the wrist. I bought these as I wanted the 'straigtening iron' curl look. But these are very tricky to use. I've tried twice. I tried this in my 'normal' unstyled hair and as my hair is quite wavy I thought it'd work great and that the curls would really 'take' but it didn't. I shall straighten it then try again. I have long, thick, straight, smooth, layered hair. I can create a 'curl' with the Babyliss You Curling irons. However, more often than not it amounts to a ringlet of the last 2 - 3 inches of hair.
I really don't like the way the plates 'grab' the hair, as the ceramic seems sticky and doesn't glide at all; and where the plates snatch during the curling procedure, you're left with a horizontal kink.
