This company automatically renews your insurance without positive confirmation from the customer. They will take payment for the insurance without getting confirmation from you that you wish to renew. This in my opinion is sharp practice and for this reason I would avoid taking out insurance with them. In addition to this the cost of renewal on my policy has increased significantly without me making a claim. (read more)

Last year I had to change my Insurer of 30 years as they could not cover the rebuild estimate. Through Gocompare I found Home protect, and have been covered for a year. Their Renewal Quote came through by post, and I checked again through Gocompare, to find that their Home Protect quote was £111 cheaper!! - so I'm insured again with Home Protect! (read more)

Home Insurance Policy I will never ever spend another penny with this company. I have been a customer for a number of years and this year noticed that the premium was not at all competitive. Whilst at 7 days into my cooling off period i decided to cancel the policy. Now every other financial organisation i have ever dealt with has cancelled during cooling off for a minimal fee for administration, not HomeProtect.......£50 which equated to in excess of 3 months premiums. Found these a year ago on a comparison website and they were a lot cheaper than my renewal quote so went with them. Very happy, but haven't had to claim so not much to talk about. I was a bit saddened that after one year of not claiming the premium went up about £5 per month and they are quite clever with sending you this a month before it runs out, so I left checking for better quotes until nearer the time, which is easily forgotten and they charge you a £50 admin fee if you exercise... Organising my home insurance with Homeprotect was easy, simple as that. One the one occassion I had to call customer services they were clear, helpful and sent me the details I needed promptly. I struggled to find someone to insure my 1750s property but Homeprotect didnt seem to think it was an issue, they asked all the right questions to ensure they understood the condtion of the propery and once happy the insurance was sorted out very quickly. Very good price for the home insurance and managed to add on items which still kept it lower than other insurances. Very pleased with the ease of the website and entered all details with no problems. I would recommend HomeProtect to my family and friends. Cannot review on the claims side of things as I haven't made a claim, but if there claims department are as good as there new policy department things should be good. (read more)

My home protect insurance policy offered good value for money. In order for the policy to be valid I had to change the locks at home which was costly but still worked out better value than my old policy and the house is more secure! I was able to ring the helpline and speak to a customer representative who was able to answer my questions. Fortunately I haven't had to make a claim so cannot review that procedure (read more)

Home protect attracted me with the optional accidental cover when you take out contents insurance. This was needed as I was moving into rented accommodation and it was a condition of the agents that tennants must have accidental cover for things like carpet damage.Another benefit was home protect insured my iPhone and tablet with no excess charges and finally I received a key ring which offers a reward if my keys are lost and a locksmith service in the case I do lose my keys. We spend several months a year sailing around the Mediterranean and found home insurance that would provide the required level of cover for an extended period difficult to find. Mr Lyon, We're sorry that you feel aggrieved about the home insurance policy cancellation fee. Our renewal documentation does advise that unless you advise us prior to renewal it will automatically renew. It also confirms that should you cancel within the 14 days “cooling off period” a £50 administration fee is applicable. I understand you have already spoken to someone in Customer Services, but if you wish to discuss it again please do call back and ask to speak to the Manager of Customer Services, he is aware of your complaint.

The fact that it is hidden in your Ts & Cs and was never communicated in a policy change letter to me over the years as a customer tells me it was implemented as a stealth charge. The only way I would feel even remotely happy with this is for my £50 to be refunded. I have now got a new policy at a lower rate with no cancellation fee so I guess its been a blessing in disguise. I reiterate i will never advise anyone to use your services as this is down right robbery. Its a cancellation penalty that the FCA need to look very closely at.
