Hi all,
I've been renting cars at Bristol Airport for short mid-week business trips for a number of years, and always use the same website to book them (rhino car hire) and that website uses CarTrawler as its technology provider/broker.

I've never ever had any problems with them, and the prices have always been top class, which for a self-employed man in a recession is very important! Once I had an issue with a Supplier relating to the petrol costs on return, but thats nothing to do with CarTrawler, and was eventually sorted by the Supplier (why do they all have to have different T's & C's for petrol costs?).
I called Cartrawlers call center to change the dates of another booking just before christmas; they answered pretty promptly and there was no issues getting things sorted.

While I appreciate we've all had horror stories in the past, I don't think a lot of the supplier or car condition issues in previous reviews can be wholly attributed to a broker, who I assume partner with the Suppliers in good faith.

I booked through 121 Car Hire, who used Car Trawler to provide the service, who in turn booked the car through Buchbinder. I paid up front through 121 Car Hire

When I went to collect the car from the airport they would not except anything less than deposit of - get this - 2400 euros! I had already paid for the hire so they would not provide a refund.I needed to arrange an extension to my credit card which took 4 hours.

People here have the wrong end of the stick, Car trawler only provides the engines and links to all the car rental companies. These car rental companies are to blame if you have any issues! They are the ones who have the duty to honour the booking, and who you paid for the service!

I use cartrawler sites all the time, I save around 50 euros for every car rental, and I know the companies I'm using. I saved 30 euros when I was in Gibraltar using a CT site, which was cheaper than going to the SAM ...

I hired a 'Golf or similar' from CarTrawler but when my voucher arrived it said 'Skoda or similar'. When I went to pick up the car it was a Peugeot hatchback (a dirty one as the carwash was broken). I paid an extra £50 premium for a Golf over other 4 door hatchbacks on Cartrawler's site - only to end up with the cheaper car! I complained to Cartrawler only to be referred to the T&Cs that say the car the specify might not be the car I get!! Well in that case I'm glad I didn't pay for a Merc ...

CarTrawler is a rubbish~~~

I booked my car about 1 month ago, and on Dec.20th due to bad weather my flight had been cancelled and no available for in next 3~4 days, so I have to cancel my trip. I have cancel flights,by weather,and those cowboys,did not give my refund...PLEASE NEVER BOOK A CAR HIRE...LETS BREAK THEM,AND THEY ARE JUST AN AGENT, SO THEY DONT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING,AND IF YOU HAVE GOT A PROBLEM,THEY HAVE A CALL CENTRE,WHICH IS RUBBISH...THEY ARE BUNCH OF THIEVES.......

I was quite hesitant to book a car through a company in Dublin as I live in the Middle East. We got to Z rich airport, got a lovely new car, full tank. We paid 1/3 of the rental price upon reservation and the rest we paid when we returned the car with a full tank. Everything went smoothly, no problems at all. I read now the reviews and am a bit perplexed. I would definitely book through this company again the price was unbeatable.

I hate Cartrawler.

They are rubbish. They're T&Cs explicitly state that there would be no extra charge for dropping off the hire car at a different location. They lied and I was charged. I spent several months complaining to Cartrawler and they never responded on this point- they just ignored anything that I said. I would never ever use them again. Even if they were the cheapest provider around, in case something went wrong I'd never have any confidence they'd even respond.

I have used this company once and found them to be very good. I even had an upgrade on my vehicle at no extra cost - the whole process was very efficient.
I have used other similar companies who all use the fuel policy of 'full tank out - empty on return'. If you balance this and look at the total prices of all suppliers you will find they are competitive. It would have been helpful if the cost of the fuel element was made clear before booking though. I would suggest to AVOID CAR TRAWLER.

The car was delivered as promised (I booked the cheapest car possible and that is what I got!)...but:
A) they use the fuel policy to CHEAT on you
When you get the car you have to pay for the a full tank of gas!
They say that this is their "policy" because you get the car with the tank full but you can return it empty!

How are you supposed to safely arrive at the drop off point with an empty tank? ...and if you rent the car for 1-2 days you can hardly tra ...

Done my booking through cartrawler after a few days they e-mailed to say they couldnt supply car so put us on to another hire company which was more expensive were told would get same car or similar.Arrived in spain got offered a van after phone call and argument got car which should have been cheaper marbesol didnt have type of car we had paid for but cartrawler told them to charge same.I would never recommend cartrawler to anyone once they get your booking they couldnt care less.

PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE AND NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE CAR TRAWLER - A PATHETICALLY USELESS COMPANY. Agreed to hire car, paid deposit and car insurance only to arrive at airport and be told there was no car available. When taking up the issue with customer services on return from holiday they were completely inept and refused to take any responsibility whatsoever. IN MY VIEW CAR TRAWLER ARE NOTHING SHORT OF THIEVES WHO WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY FOR A SERVICE THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF PROVIDING.

Horrible rip off scamming company! Somehow my husband ended up booking a car through their site (which he did not know he was doing at the time - VERY confusing!!) - when we got to Dublin our car was not there and we had to pay more to get another car. All would not have been so bad had cartrawler not try to charge me an additional $174!!! No complaints about either the car or the service at the airport- however I was charged an additional airport fee and a late pickup fee despite my rental voucher saying both were included. After several emails I eventually have got a partial refund but their "customer service" department's complaint process seem to be set onto ignore no doubt hoping that you will eventually go away and give up.
Will never use them again - it would have been cheaper to book direct.

they took my money from my account, but i didn't get no car there in malaga aeroport, so i did ask at the desk why, and i want a answer for my situation, but the staff there was so rude and no customer service at all ,so iam still waiting for my money back till now.

I MADE A GOOD-FAITH RESERVATION WITH HERTZ.....BEING SIDE-LINED TO THE CARTRAWLER SITE EN ROUTE. WHEN I SHOWED UP AT HERTZ THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY BOOKING. I WAS UNDER EXTREME DURESS TO REACH A SICK FAMILY MEMBER TWO HOURS AWAY AND THANKFULLY A KIND HERTZ REPRESENTATIVE MADE ME A NEW BOOKING WITH A SUPERB CAR.
CARTRAWLER TOOK A DEPOSIT FROM ME, WHICH THEY REFUSE TO REFUND.
I WOULD CERTAINLY AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.
THEY SEEM INTENT ON RIPPING PEOPLE OFF......AND AS A PENSIONER I AM ...

How I wish I had read the reviews in here first. I would have saved myself not only many hours of trying to get the customer services department to stop treating me like a fool, but I would have saved my family a lot of grief and money.
I paid £215 for a medium sized car. When we arrived at the airport, late in the evening, with two children, we found the cabin shut and no car. We were very lucky to get a very tiny car from another operator for twice the price.

CARTRAWLER is responsible for arranging hire vehicles via other car rental companies. we had a bad experienc with ERBOY CAR RENTAL COMPANY in TURKEY. The vehicles supplied WERE NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE and to add insult to injury we were charged £889.77 for a mechanical fault that developed on one of the hire cars and only discovered this charge to our credit card when we arrived back home. we also incurred other expences and asked for compensation this was declined from CARTRAWLER. our advice ...

I used Cartrawler to book a car for my recent holiday I suffer from M S and my left leg is a bit unpredictable so I need an automatic this I booked with cartrawler who quoted 417Euro's, on arrival went to the Europecar desk and was told that ct had reserved a car with manual transmission for me,the only automatic car they had available was an A class Mercedes for which I had to pay 565 euro's. Hired a car for collection from the airport, either a Toyota Avensis / Citreon C5 or similar. Upon arrival we were told at the collection point they had no car for us and they had repeatidly asked the Agents to stop confriming reservations they could not fulfill.
