This company is rubbish.
Support is absolutely hopeless.
Unable to speak to anybody who is seriously technical, who will actively help when problems occur.
Always get a irritating woman on the helpdesk who always wants to argue.
Takes ages to get a simple problem resolved.
No customer complaints procedures.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE !

1and1 was my first web hosting company, and it was a very bad and negative experience, they are incompetent, time wasters and I think there should be laws to prevent companies like them operating in the UK- Read Guest's review (37 words)

We used 1and1 as our hosting company for many years. It is cheap and not-cheerful.
If you are considering hosting with 1and1 then you definitely want to look elsewhere.
They cut off all of our client websites because of an expired credit card (these things happen) and couldn't restore the account for a whole week!
They regularly change things on the servers. I have lost count of the amount of times I have been phoned on holiday because client sites have suddenly stopped working.. and who's t ...- Read Guest's review (145 words)

Just dire at setting up a webspace - every aspect uses their own terminology, FAQ pages lack links to what is being discussed and no return-to link main site. Uploading a page using web-explorer system works fine, until try viewing the file and nothing exists at my domain. I think I'm quiet computer savi, but have given up after several hours.- Read Guest's review (61 words and 1 comment)

In general 1and1 UK is terrible. Long times waiting for them to answer the phone etc. I would suggest going with 1and1.com and using all there American services as they are top quality and ultra fast (support wise).
I have had brilliant up time with 1and1 and my domain transfers are a breeze.
Like: Good pricing and website layout and ease of use
Dislike: UK support- Read Guest's review (67 words)

terrible.
absolutely dire, beyond hope
billing dept at 1and1.co.uk simply do not listen and repeat the same inappropraite excuses
for several months I have tried to pay the bill. they invoiced me for something I don't think is due, and asked them for a statement/copy of the order to show the amount was due. they simply said the amount was due. no proof, (they said they couldn't supply any !!! lol), but I had to pay
I repeated I wouldn't pay without proof, and wouldn't pay by plastic/automati ...- Read cecr's review (310 words)

Having had severe billing problems hosting my main domain with 1and1.co.uk I have now cancelled another domain hosted with them and they continue to bill me for my canceled domain for the next 12 months! 1&1 are a nightmare company deal with - their billing department make things up as they go along and can never say "sorry"!
There are many excellent hosting companies, such as eUKhost.co.uk in the UK, 1and1.co.uk are not one of them.- Read peterowen's review (80 words)

I opened an account with this company about 2 months ago and as I did not get the service
I was expecting (access to MYsql) I cancelled the same day ( I thought that was it). After 15 days I
got charged to my paypal account I called and they told me that I
should get the refund in 7 days by bank wire (They sayd the could not refund my paypal account - company policy). Ok 12 day later I did not get
the money so I contact their billing department and they told me that due
to a system error the pay ...- Read luisiher's review (204 words)

Servers located in Germany and not in the UK as advised before setting up an account with 1and1. Important aspects of my website failed to function and programmer informed me that the server was not able to handle script correctly! I duly moved my website to a UK server and all worked fine.
Cancelled my account with 1&1, but several months later they still took money from my PayPal account, and months later have yet to rebate me! Without notice, I have today received a demand from a Debt Col ...- Read peterowen's review (127 words)

I used to pay by credit card for 1and1 but as I had to change cards several times I decided to switch to bank direct debit. I had constant trouble although I wrote several times. It culminated with them barring my account without warning and using a debt collector to collect an instalment I thought had already been paid by direct debit. Needless to say I am no longer with 1&1.- Read Guest's review (72 words)

Have been using 1&1 since 2005, I had several problems at the beginning because I was learning by myself. Now I am quite good with websites and hosting and I can give you a very good advice to deal with 1&1:Never Never call them, it is a waste of time and money, it seems they have a bunch of student located overseas who are pay $0.5/hourIt is better to send an email to the tech support, they answer usually within 3hours, I just did it yesterday and they solved my issue (without trying to make mo ...- Read mcany's review (123 words)

I was originally satisfied with 1and1, until I registered a second domain with them. They decided my previously acceptable user account, which was active for months, needed to be "verified" to prevent internet fraud. To verify I had to call their 0870 number (with high charges per minute). The first three times I phoned they put me on hold for 10 minutes (after which I hung up!) When I finally got through to a human she took several minutes to eventually tell me that their computer system was dow ...- Read Guest's review (213 words)

Being an online company in such acompetitive market, 1and1 is very good value of money.
As far as customer serivce is concerned, my experience is quite pleasant. I was quite unhappy but it turned out to be my own mistake and the agent I was through to, had a professional command on the system and fixed my problem there and then.
Yes there are problem which you cant have the solutions there and then and you have to wait for it but then I can understand it involves company policies as well.

For some reason 1and1 don't seem to be able to edit their address fields and the address I had entered was showing in a weird format and I couldn't delete parts of my old address. This was automatically sent to whois and overwrote my whois entry which was correct. Unlucky for me I couldn't log into whois to correct it. The 1 and 1 error which they could not fix held up the installation of my replacement ssl as it could not be issued since the address was incorrect. After several jargon emails f ...- Read Guest's review (123 words)

We have used 1&1 Hosting for three years now, after really bad experiences with several other hosting companies. We have 63 domains hosted with them and have not had an issue to date. It's all too easy to come on a review site like this and blame others for your own technical short commings. OK support is not good, but show me a hosting company with good support. Communication is very poor but you get what you pay for.- Read Guest's review (80 words)

To add an Access database tot he site we were told bye 1and1.co.uk we had to move to another server - OK so we upgraded the package. Big Mistake! The web site immediately goes down - no bookings -no traffic and no help from the support team. If you use these guys you are operatinf at the base level. You get what you pay for. My advice - shop elswhere.- Read georgehowell1234's review (86 words)

Very good value for money - I use their dedicated server and they are much cheaper than anyone else in my opinion. Good customer support when I had mistakenly ordered a managed server rather than a root server. The problem was dealt with V. quickly by 1and1.co.uk.
I am very happy with these guys (I have been using them for about three years, and now onto our second server).- Read Guest's review (71 words)

We are a small animal charity and have been with 1and1 for 3 years, but recently, their tech support has evaporated and appear not to understand our problems - We use their newsletter tool to to send our lifeline newsletters each month which worked for several years, but that has now changed and regardless of how we try to fix it, almost all of our newsletters are now treated as spam, including 1and1! We were told to try another database and new outgoing email address, which we did ( and took a ...- Read jimthedonkey's review (329 words)
