“ACCOUNT BLOCKED AND KEEPING MY MONEY!!”

Written on: 15/05/2013

Banked with them for over a year and generally ok. Today however they have blocked me access to my funds so I have ZERO money. I suspect it's because I have been selling some bits and had some paypal transfers go in! Apparently they don't like payments in other than wages! Customer service tell me they are looking into it and have no timeframe as to how long I will have no money for. (read more)

If you so much as 'dare' to have anything other than your wages deposited into your account ie a lump sum from family or commission payment (all legit)frankly ANY sum of money that isn't your monthly wage/benefits etc. They (thinkmoney) will STOP and/or SUSPEND your account with NO EXPLAINATION or any given reason why and no time limit given.I have NO access to my account,NO answer to my emails and rude and surly 'money managers' at the end of the phone...absolutely horrific! ... Hi there,
Me and you both!....has been a week now and no sign of money being released. So called 'moneymanagers' are prompted to say nothing blaming IT problems etc and 'we haven't access to your account'...putting you on hold then passing you to someone else who'll tell you nothing anyway!...it's all standard practice/procedure (apparently) when any account holder puts money into their account OTHER than wages/benefits ( i missed that bit in the small print...if,indeed, it's there!) They (thinkmoney) claim that because they're 'managed' accounts they will question/investigate/suspend/freeze/etc ANY 'alien' sum deposited into your account....i would NEVER have banked with them if i'd known that. A bank account that doesn't let you put money into YOUR account for you to access is NOT a bank account...banks don't do that!
Sorry to hear of your your predicament,i'm in the same horrible spot.
It seems all so ironic that thinkmoney can hold some sort of moral high ground regarding peoples finances. Along the lines of....'you 'bank' with us so you must be poor/bankrupt/immigrant/poor credit/etc....so,WHERE did you get this money? you're not supposed to have any 'extra' money so it must be dodgey/illegal ...and freeze your account and NO reason will be given or how long it will take...' The irony being,of course, is Thinkmoney allies itself and uses the facilities of....RBS. Here is a bank that had to be bailed out to the tune of around £45 billion (the largest bail out of all UK banks) is now 50% government owned (should actually be and is over 80% and more) where bankers were paid £million bonuses! (over a hundred of them) overall bonuses topped nearly £1 billion with PUBLIC money(2010) with RBS holding the record for the worst yearly corporate loss ever in history ( £25 billion in 2008) all headed by a scandal ridden boss 'the shred' who left (resigned) with a multi-million pound 'golden parachute'
Take note Thinkmoney!!

I started to open an account with this company but decided to cancel it to see if I could get myself out of financial trouble before getting someone to sort it for me. Tried to use my card yesterday and was declined when i phoned they asked all sorts of questions regarding the payment i received. The money is entirely proper, was paid from a limited company and frankly NONE of their business. Have had to send proof (documents, emails etc) my account can't be accessed via the web anymore and suspended!!! Phoning is worse with curt unhelful answers and no reasons why or when......i feel like some sort of criminal. I'm still in complete shock...oh! and don't forget the 'don't call us it won't do you any good...we'll call you....and we can't say when that'll be!!' The whole 'bank' is a racket run by the American mob...it's the only explaination. Who ever reads this DO NOT put your money here, they will keep it! A bunch of fly-by-nights!!!!

I am sorry you have experienced problems with your account.

It certainly isn’t true to say that we have systems problems on a regular basis. From time to time our systems need to undergo routine maintenance (as you would expect) but these periods of maintenance are kept to a minimum and are usually carried out over night to cause minimum disruption to customers.

Although you can’t obtain a balance at an ATM you can get one by text (free of charge depending on your mobile tariff) for a balance of your account 24/7, via Online Account Management and via your phone using our mobile-optimised service. On days when you receive a credit into your account we also text you the details of how much is budgeted for your bills and how much has been transferred to your card account.

If you’d like me to investigate your concerns further please feel free to drop me an email to sarah.jolly@thinkmoney.co.uk.

...Well perhaps you could explain to all of us here why it is that your 'bank' freezes our accounts routinely? doesn't give us any reasons why or how long? doesn't seem to care that it leaves people utterly 'potless' for days and even weeks at a time? The best bit is when you phone for info there is ALWAYS (according to your alleged moneymanagers) an IT problem or a 'glitch' in the system!....over to you Ms Jolly.

I’m sorry you have experienced problems with your card and this caused you inconvenience over the Christmas period. I am not sure why you were without a card for so long as replacement cards are issued promptly and do usually arrive within a few days. As you rightly say whilst customers are waiting for replacement cards they are able to withdraw money via any PayPoint retailer.

Think Money is part of the Think Money Group, which is an independent business and not connected to RBS. However, we do use part of RBS’ banking infrastructure.

(plus the opening fee, it was 25quid when i made the fatal mistake of joining) in fact, i would recommend a credit union before thinkbanking and they are a pain in the rear so that gives an idea of the sort of agro i've had with this account... :(

People just like complaining!!! Why did not you open an account with high street banks like natwest or barclays bank? They are far more convenient than think banking, ohhhhh....maybe you credit is so messed up and no other bank wants to open you an account???

I was a think Banking customer, i never had any problem with them, in fact they helped me improved my credit scores a lot and I am now managed to have credit cards from halifax and tesco, i also managed to get a small loan from bank.

Staff were always helpful and polite, (yes, it took between 5 and 10 mins to get hold of them) and they used to charged me a reasonable £12.50 per month for the service.

I would recommend think banking to everyone who has difficulty to open an ordinary bank account from high street banks.

by the way, i am not someone from think banking!!!!

Dear Kerrie
We are sorry you are experiencing problems with your account and card.

The team has tried to call you to discuss these problems and see if we can help.

Your card can be used online and to obtain cash back where the appropriate symbol is displayed and we won’t charge for a replacement card if your card is indeed faulty.

Companies should only request money from your account if authorized to do so and in the first instance the instruction needs to be cancelled with the firm concerned. If you experience any problems in cancelling a payment then our team will be happy to advise on the next steps.

When setting up direct debits on the account we do need you to confirm which companies will be claiming, when and for how much. If however a firm claims for a different figure to your estimate, we will honour the payment for the amount claimed (whether it’s more or less than the amount held), unless you cancel the direct debit with enough notice.

The amount a company claims by direct debit is determined by what you owe to that company not the amount you estimate that bill should be.

We would like to help and get things back on track for you so I will ask the team to try and contact you again.

If there is a best time to call you please drop me an e-mail to sarah.jolly@thinkmoney.com.

Hi,

We apologise for any inconvenience or embarrassment caused if your card has been declined.

The thinkmoney card is a universally recognised Debit Card and should be accepted at the vast majority of outlets displaying the appropriate symbol.

We are aware of certain places where the card may not be accepted. For example some pay at pump petrol stations are not online to check the account balance, so to ensure that customers do not become overdrawn, our card does not allow these transactions.

Otherwise your card should work in shops, online or abroad wherever you see the acceptance sign.

If you continue to have difficulty with your card or find places where the card doesn't work please do let us know and we will look into this for you. If you would like me to arrange for a Money Manager to give you a call then please email your reference number to Steve.hewitt@thinkmoney.com

Written on: 26/10/2012

I took out this account as I have a poor credit rating and not much else was on offer. I have had problems from the start - my brand new debit card would not work and I was charged £5 for a new one and I have had problems using the new debit card in various cash machines. Also the paying in and out process is very slow for payments other than direct debits and wages. The worst problem, however, is they do not let you have access to your money if they think there is something ususual about... (read more)

I am sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing with your account.

We don’t charge for a new replacement card if you have never been able to use the card or it arrives damaged.

If a card becomes damaged over a period of time and needs replacing before it’s renewal date then in this scenario we would charge to cover the cost of replacement.

The team will be happy to discuss any problems you are still experiencing with certain cashpoints and access to your money.

We are sorry if our name change has caused confusion.

There are a number of reasons why we needed to change our name: we put together some FAQs to explain why it was necessary and what it means for customers. You can find the FAQ’s using this link: http://www.thinkmoney.co.uk/news-advice/thinkbanking-name-change-your-questions-answered-0-3961-0.htm

We are saddened that you are looking to close the account and would like to see if there is anything we can do to help.

If it helps I can ask a Money Manager to call you to discuss your account, just drop me an e-mail to Steve.Hewitt@thinkmoney.com with your reference only.

“what a carry on!”

Written on: 11/10/2012 by martinrooney123

You have to pay out £174 a year for the account, then whenever you need to talk to somebody about your account they charge you in phone call charges! They bang on about UN EXPECTED overdraft charges, and un paid dd charges, Id rather get charged those than have to pay out over £174 a year. And trust me, I was having to phone thinkmoney (think banking as it was) nearly every week due to a mess up on my account on their part. They knew each and every month how much to set aside to pay... Dear martinrooney123

We are sorry to read that you have experienced problems with your account and we have fallen short of your expectations.

Whether or not to pay a fee for your banking is a choice. The OFT found 1.5m people paying more than £500 a year in overdraft charges. These people would likely be better off with our product – with a single monthly fee and no overdraft or returned item fees. Our customers tell us they generally prefer the certainty of a fixed fee than the risk of higher charges. But that’s a personal choice.

Your experience is very different from the feedback we get from the majority of customers. We work with Feefo.com to get feedback from customers and we currently have a 94% satisfaction rate from over 2,500 – you can see the comments from customers here: http://bit.ly/HHRLy8

If we can help any further by all means please e mail me at sarah.jolly@thinkmoney.com.

I hope this helps.

You seem proud to be boasting a 94% satisfaction rate on a feedback company you work with.. What about all the other feedback forums ive been reading. They make some prtty interesting reading!!!.
You say that the OFT have said people pay £500 in charges etc... Like i said in my comment above, I have the same set up as think money, 2 accounts One for Direct debits and other for my card transactions, NO overdraft, and no risk of getting charged!, All for NO FEE!! So where will i be paying the £500 a year???.
94% Satisfaction, Id be disappointed if i was in charge, I would be aimiung for 100% then i would boast. Until then I really hope your customers see what your company really are like, make the move and go to a different bank, who dont charge for the same kind of set up as think.

They are not perfect but neither is any large company. The customer services are second to none so if you do have an issue that is within their control, in my experience it is very quickly resolved. Online status says Monday - that is 4 days to transfer/click a friggin button. On the other hand, I phoned L-TSB and transferred a few hundred quid to a new payee within 2 hours on the same day Plus side - no overdraft fees Down sides - you can never reach them, they get your details wrong, they... We do offer the Faster Payment Service in the same way as the main high street banks do.

Electronic payments normally arrive within 2 hours of being sent, the exception to this being if a payment is sent after 5pm then it may not arrive until 11am the next working day.

Cheque clearance takes 8 days as a cheque can still be returned unpaid within this time. As we don’t offer an overdraft facility we need to ensure the cheque has cleared before funds are made available.

Thank you for your comments. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers as a result of the technical problems at RBS. As you know between Saturday 23rd of June and 3pm on Wednesday 27th of June thinkbanking didn’t receive the data needed from RBS to update customers accounts, because of the well publicised IT failure at RBS. thinkbanking is not part of RBS, but accounts are held by RBS.

Over the period we worked extremely hard to offer customers emergency cash to tide them over. We were able to provide many thousands of customers with funds to ensure that they had enough money to live on until their credits arrived. Over the period we increased our staffing levels and opening hours to enable us to serve customers that needed help. We also introduced a phone number that is inclusive on most mobile and landline tariffs. We do appreciate that our phone lines were extremely busy as we dealt with this issue.

By 3pm on Wednesday 27th of June customers’ credits were in their accounts and since then customers have been receiving all credits as normal.

We tried to keep customers up to date throughout via text message, as well as updates on our website, internet banking, Facebook and Twitter.

We have written to every affected thinkbanking customer to apologise for these problems, which although outside our control, caused a great deal of worry and difficulty to many. You can see the apology here: http://www.thinkbanking.co.uk/apology/

We have also refunded the thinkbanking management fee for June customers inconvenienced by this and committed that customers should not be out of pocket as a result of these exceptional circumstances. We have published details for customers on how to make a claim.
