“Do not attend unless you would like to be assaulted ”

Written on: 24/04/2012 by Jcsmith (1 review written)

My visit to AKBARs Bradford on the 11th April 2012 ended in pain and embarrassment. I have been visiting the restaurant twice a month for the last 5 years and never have I had such despicable service, the nights events show how a quite night out turned into torture. We entered, and as usual there was a wait for a table, we proceeded to order drinks but was met by another wait this time spanning 25 minutes. The waiter eventually came and sat us in what seemed a quite corner. We ordered our… Read Full Review

“Good food, but hate the queue”

Written on: 11/04/2012 by kop632 (7 reviews written)

The food is always good here and the desserts choice is awesome, try the oreo cookie dessert if you have the space for it. The only downfall is the waiting time to actually get seated on a weekend. The waitress are helpful and they do provide a good service overall… Read Full Review

It was the first time we had a curry in Bradford and all I can say is that it was an extremely pleasurable experience at Akbars!! - the food was so authentic and so close to what Im used to eating like 'mum makes it'!!! The service was quick and the waiters were extremely friendly and willing to chat despite it being absolutley crammed. I would definatly recommend it to anyone wanting to taste a proper curry!! We are planning on making a special trip again next month!… Read Full Review

The secret here, we were told, was to ask for the 'special' menu. It's what the staff eat. So we did. The waiter looked a bit surprised but he said there were two dishes that night. I'd never heard of either. One was 'thurai shalgam pyaz.' The other was 'lamb haandi'. Without doubt, they were the best curry dishes I've had. The first was a vegetarian dish with gourd, turnip and onions. Shards of chili were buried in it and the other spices were 'bhangran chala' and asafotida. Before the dish… Read Full Review

Never had a bad meal at Akbars, the food is consitently good, just the same at both Leeds, York and Manchester. Service always quick & friendly. Sometimes it can get a bit crowded round the bar but don't mind as it adds to the atmosphere of the place. Once we sat upstairs and wouldn't want to again as we felt a 'bit out of it'.................. Overall a great place to eat!… Read Full Review

As an indian person i regularly return to Akbar's Restaurant, Bradford, a thriving busy place and am pleased by the mix of people that is in their customer base. You are quickly served once you are at the table and your food is brought to your table by a chef. I find the atmosphere engaging and you can bring your whole family. On special occasions they give you a cake as well as a song. I have eaten at may restaurants but Akbars has that special something that makes me return again and again… Read Full Review

Written on: 20/07/2008 by ruk786 (2 reviews written)

I booked a table a week in advance for a Saturday night 4 adults with 2 children. I wanted the upstairs part of the restaurant as i heard from friends it was much more relaxed there, and having children with us would be more suitable. I was told over the phone this would not be possible as they only open the upstairs part when busy.... Now even i can tell you that any restaurant on a Saturday night is going to be busy, and i don't even work in a restaurant. I just had to settle for what they… Read Full Review

Perhaps you Rukh786, don't restaurants very often, but I would think it's pretty common knowledge that popular places are usually bustling on Saturday and Friday evenings and Akbars is no exception. Depending on your children's ages, maybe you should have choosen to go earlier in the evening.

I have to agree with you about the menus, they are pretty large and I also agree with the carpark. There is a concreted section but the rest is muddy section. Anyone wearing sandals would end up wallowing in mud. If you don't park on the mud then you have no where else to park. The main road is always busy.

The restaurant door allows in cold air, and if you have seat anywhere near the entrance you end up very cold. The need to put a heater or have another door which would prevent the cold air entering.

Their is a bar near the entrance which is why people stand around drinking before their tables are ready. People with children may feel uncomfortable but it's hardly surprising as it was a Saturday evening.

I like the consistency of the food, the lamb chops are the best!

Recently we made our second (successful) attempt to go to Akbars Indian restaurant in Bradford.
The first time, we'd gone on a spur-of-the-moment on a Friday and learned to our dismay that this restaurant is clearly good - we couldn;t open the door to get in as there were so many people in reception!
A few weeks later, we decided to make use of their takeaway service. We phoned through and ordered, and we told it would be about 30 mins.
Thirty mins later we made our way there and after about… Read Full Review
