“Always waiting, waiting, waiting”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 08/09/2011

I have ordered an extremely expensive item which I have sat in waiting for, for two days! On their site it says the item was despatched from Bristol Depot 3 days ago! Whats going on! I cant even call them unless I have a calling card which I cant get until the item has had attempted delivery! I love the catalogue I order from but Im sick of being kept waiting over a week every time I order something!! It would make me think twice if I saw HDNL as a delivery provider from other sites. Disappointing to say the least!

“Bring back DHL Home Economy”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 26/08/2011

Yodel 48 bears no comparison to the old DHL 48 which was always 100% reliable. Yodel aka HDNL aka DHL 48 is unreliable and not worth the aggro of worrying when delivery will actually be.

“Sloppy and inaccurate performance”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 06/08/2011

A card through my door tells me that "My home delivery network" missed me when the called to deliver a parcel. They ticked a box saying it was left at "your neighbour at 12". But I myself am "at 12", and there is no parcel at 11 or 13. Nor was the card filled correctly to tell me the name of the addressee, nor the date of 'delivery'. There is however a website and telephone number. But why should I pay 10p a minute for an automated message when It was they who misdelivered? A machine cannot answer my question. As for the website, there is no contact e-mail address, no way of getting a history of the supposed parcel. If there IS a parcel and it IS eventually delivered to me then ** would be fair; otherwise one star (=terrible) would be more appropriate. We shall see.

work as a subbie for hdnl.slogging my guts out for 78p a parcel.earn between 450 to 500 a week. Out of that theres 125 for diesel the you take out tax an national insure .20 pound a week to put aside for van repairs.then you start paying rent household bills food ect, and thats if wages stretch that far, hdnl treat workers like poo. shoddy management dont give a dam abt there workers. some customers are very rude, cannot even be bothered to answer door, but are always keen to stare at you hrough window and then complain when not got parcel. take parcels to safe place eg shed, only to see your shoes covered in dog muck.if you cant be bothered to answer door, cant be in or clean up ur gardens.then dont order SIMPLE . STOP Wasting our diesel why shoud we pay for your order.

Hi delivery man!
why do not you leave the parcel with customer's next door neighbours? I had few parcels delivered by HDNL and always some problems. Once my computer laser mouse was left behing my garden gate on the rain! Twice my parcels has been lost! The other time they refused to look for my parcel as they were closing depot in the next half an hour. In addition to that the "calling cards" never completed properly, lack of information. All rubish!

Whilst I'm sorry to hear that this company doesn't care much for it's workers, I have to say that, as an unfortuante customer of HDNL, it's a sob story that's of no interest to me - I'm sure many employees of other corporate Organisations have similar gripes and chips on their shoulders about it, but why should we, the customers, be forced to bear the brunt of it? If you're not prepared to take a bit more pride in your job, then quit - regardless of what you think of peoples gardens, sheds etc, the buck still stops with you to make sure parcels are delivered. We are not all going to be rude to delivery drivers and staff, but neither should we have to endure such poor customer service, when we're not in a position to choose our preferred delivery couriers.

Missed my first delivery because I did not expect it so soon. Had to go out next day but followed suppliers instructions to authorise driver to leave parcel. Returned to find a card saying unable to leave parcel. Cannot fault company on speed but seems like a little training required where drivers are involved. Wish them luck but at the end of the day management are to blame if they cannot see the poor blog from customers.I have had better service cheaper from Bond Street London.

Damaged an item that I recently sent. It was a computer monitor that was adequately packed with air pockets and bubble wrap.

It seems that the they ignored the fragile and this way up orientation markings on the box.

The monitor casing was damaged (cracked in two places) - as though something heavy had been placed on top or it had been thrown wrecklessly.

I'll think twice about sending via HDNL again.

I had a parcel delivered today and just missed it as I was only out 10 mins. this was needed urgently. Couldnt contact you as my ref. no. had not yet been recorded spoke to a member of team who informed me too early to log ref I asked if delivery was still in area could they deliver parcel today, informed definately not would have to re arrange, which due to holidays, would be after Tues next week so will have to take a day off work!!!! no one notified me delivery would be made today!! Surely this would have saved your company time and money or is this not a consideration and no account taken for customer satisfaction. I cant believe the driver was so far out of area in such a short time!!!!!!

“I thought I would review the Home Delivery Network now...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Ryles23 on 05/04/2011

I thought I would review the Home Delivery Network now as it turns out they are changing their name to Yodel. So I apologise if this is wordy. I have listed companies at the bottom of this post which use/d HDNL.

Of course, when going to the depot it was really nice of them to NOT leave a sign indicating this is STILL Home Delivery Network as I cautiously walked up to the building. Oh wait...

Obviously they have taken the last resort in changing their name in an attempt to shake off the hugely negative reputation they have throughout the UK, not only on Review Centre but as soon as you type HDNL into Google. Sorry HDNL, but as the phrase goes, you can't polish a ...!

It boasts sending up to 50,000 parcels every day without realising that (est.) 95% of these parcels come from large comsumer companies, NOT independent people. Given the choice I would make a steady bet that no more than 92% (based on recommendation above!) of independent people would use them.

If you work, absolutely forget about receiving your product in a timely manner! HDNL delivers 7am-7pm, with no tighter time slot to be offered! If you leave the house outside these hours, well, they might just show up anyway!

On many occasions I have had calling cards left when being in all day to receive them and also not had them left when HDNL emailing me to say they have!

Depots are only open 9am-6pm weekdays and Saturday AM so become totally inaccessible in a time limit. (Just to quote... competitor City Link is open until 8pm weekdays, which I find reasonable.) I have heard drivers argue "Why order when you KNOW you're going to be out?" And they're absolutely right! However, why close at 6pm making it impossible to collect either? I'm happy to collect most times if I can because I know I'll be out.
Depots are few and far between making it even more difficult. At Xmas I was refused to collect my parcel because of the bad weather which was non-existant here.

They do not offer me the option of leaving in a safe place, even though the card claims so. In comparison DPD are excellent for this, allowing you to easily arrange this online or by phone. Home DN would probably excel if this was possible! Our local driver was nice enough one time to respond to a note I left on the door asking to be left in a safe place - I am grateful he had the sensibility to kindly reply and not bulls- me.

Lastly I'd like to comment on the accessibility on their website...
CityLink created the best consumer information in this area, with a section of ALL City Link Depots and what's even more, the opening times and addresses.
HDNL on the other hand (With DPD to be fair) miss this completely... it could be anyone's guess where my nearest depot is and what times they're open. Often the consignment numbers and postcode I put in do not match anything on their server.

If possible I would advise all buyers to steer away from this company, and if possible stay away from companies using this delivery service.

“I ordered a Sofa from Made.com and HDNL were the...”

★★☆☆☆

written by bomojess on 21/03/2011

I ordered a Sofa from Made.com and HDNL were the delivery people. Having waited roughly 12 weeks for my new sofa to be delivered I took the day off work and it was delivered in the correct time slot 7am - 11am (delivered at 9.20). That is where the good bit ends.

The driver and assistant delivery man were the most unhelpful and negative staff Ive met to date. They persisted to tell me that the sofa wouldn't fit into my flat. Which I know from measuring it that it would. They then persisted to complain at every opportunity and suggest that I was stupid and that I should live in a house. Unprofessional!

Then after 3 attempts to get it up one flight of stairs (not unusual with so many flats around these days) they took all the packaging off the sofa, through the cushions for me to take in and left a huge mess and damage to some of the walls throughout the communal areas, outside the property and in my flat. They then left all the packaging outside in the soaking wet!!

Not impressed....thank god my sofa is ok otherwise Made.com would be getting a call.

I had the option to have a parcel delivered by royal mail and I chose HDNL because it was supposedly quicker. What a joke. To be honest I amazed that this company are managing to make Royal Mail look good!

written by on 28/02/2011

I don't know where they get their delivery guys. It took almost a week for my stuff to be delivered. They claim they attempted delivery 3X but left no card. In one instance, they even put "refused" on the box when no one refused to accept the delivery. In another instance, I was at home the whole day and no one rang the doorbell and they had the cheek to say "Attempted delivery" on their system. My stuff finally arrived when I posted a note on the door entry saying to HDNL, for my delivery, please press these numbers and the bell sign. I wonder if I didn't do that, who I have gotten my stuff? I gave it 2 stars only because a very polite person answered my queries and was helpful.

written by on 18/01/2011

I work for HDNL. What you have to understand is that its not the drivers fault. The company is forcing us to take parcels out long before they are due. Because of this customers are not expecting them so are not home. Plus we have a new computerized system now which is absolutly useless. Its supposed to take us to within 10 feet of customers address but doesnt. So dont be mad at your driver, he is as annoyed as you.

written by on 14/01/2011

What a joke for a delivery company, we ordered a bed and after 3 months of ringing littlewoods to get in touch with them, it finally turned out that they had lost it. So we gave up on that especially when they tried to cover it with delivery dates they were giving us. This time we ordered a tv and dvd player, really please to say the dvd player came a day later, but the arranged date for the tv was today...still not here. Any company looking for a delivery service I really wouldn't recommend this to you at all. They don't even have a customer service number which shows their confidence in themselves. The number they give is to rearrange a delivery and nothing more. I'm happy with one out of 3 deliveries so far.

“my delivery of a Virgin V+ TV box with HDNL was...”

★★☆☆☆

written by oskabmwmandala on 13/01/2011

my delivery of a Virgin V+ TV box with HDNL was arranges for Monday. I then rang up and changed it to Wednesday as I had work on Monday, which they happily confirmed with me on the phone. However, when it reached the original delivery date on Monday I strangely received a text from HDNL saying my delivery was on its way. So I had to ask my girlfriend to stay home and wait for the allusive delivery. She waited all day but the delivery never came. When it reached the rearranged delivery date the following Wednesday the delivery still failed to turn up. I rang up but all they kept asking for was the 'calling card reference number', which I didn't have as they never even attempted delivery. Eventually I got though to customer services by entering invalid calling card reference numbers which tricks the system into putting you on to a real person. My delivery was then rearranged for the next Friday and did turn up. Third time lucky eh! Also having a 7am till 7pm delivery time frame is unreasonable as it requires customers to stay in all day when they have jobs to go too. HDNL have got a lot of work to do before they can be considered a reputable company.

“I got two packages from Marks and Spencer via HDNL,...”

written by DavidEC1984 on 04/12/2010

I got two packages from Marks and Spencer via HDNL, paying for nominated day delivery the second time around. They delivered the first time 'round but failed the second - claiming they did, despite the fact that I was home all day and found no calling card - didn't bother trying the next day, tried but failed again the third, and eventually got there on the fourth. Admittedly their telephone staff were prompt and helpful, but if I were ordering from Marks and Sparks again, I'm going for store pickup. Avoid.

Just had a package delivered by HDNL. The delivery guy came to the door smoking a cigar and blew his cancer-waves in my face. Revolting.

I've had the misfortune of dealing with these clowns a couple of times and their customer service is pathetic. If they can't find an address (which DHL manage to find just fine!) then they won't phone you or the recipient, they'll just waste time and return the parcel to you. Don't expect them to pick items up on time either.

A mickey mouse operation. Use a more trustworthy courier instead.

written by on 22/11/2010

I am giving 2 stars because HOME DELIVERY NETWORK have delivered here previously without apparent problem. However, I now have a problem; I have tried to contact them about a delivery and found their website information to be next to useless [my parcel is in and out of depots, loaded onto vans etc. but never comes anywhere near my house]. I tried contacting them by phone and, after being messed about by an automated system [for 10p per minute] it promised to transfer my call to a real person.....only for the line to go dead every time ! The website tells me I cannot re-schedule the delivery, please call 0871 etc and get cut off again. No facility to divert the delivery to another address either. It's the lack of being able to contact and speak to anyone which is really frustrating and annoying !

On Sat 30th Oct 2 cards were put through the door when we were away from home. They had different ID numbers and one said a package was with a neighbour - this was fine and we collected it. (From Amazon)
The problem was, did we have 2 packages? On line system didn't work and I phoned the following day, leaving details to deliver 4th Nov. My husband stayed at home all day. There was no delivery and I could get no further when I phoned again.

There needs to be a system tyo leave a message, tracking and a facility to email them.
