“"Penaltu"”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JohnCanty on 08/08/2023

An experience with any organization is rarely more than the sum of its parts. When an organization goes out of its way to please its customers, the customers will often repay that organization with word-of-mouth advertising and loyalty. The opposite, however, is also true. When an organization goes out of its way to ‘penalize’ its customers, the customers go out of their way to write reviews like this one.   Let’s start this review off right. I have used Eagle Rider in the past to rent motorcycles. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I am a good customer of theirs, but I was repeat business. In the past, I picked up bikes and rode them, they were reasonably well maintained, and I had few problems. The prices were always a little high, but given the reduced hassle of having to worry about maintenance and the few times I rented, it seemed an ok trade-off.   Now everything changed this last time and for none of the reasons listed above. I will never rent from them again because they cannot train their customer support staff properly. I rented a bike in Colorado on 8/2 for pickup on 8/18. Like most renters, I didn’t read the fine print, but I expected some level of corporate CYA in there. Cancellation charges are expected within a certain window of time. On 8/7, I had to cancel the trip and contacted Eagle Rider at 11 am PDT. The phone system offered me a call-back option, and thankfully I took it. Because 2:17 pm PDT is when I got called back. I explained the situation, and the customer service rep used the word ‘penalty’ no less than five times. Just so you know, if you cancel within 20 days of picking the bike up, you get hit with paying 60% of the booking price. They also hit you with a slightly lower ‘Penalty’ for canceling within 30 days of the pickup.   Needless to say, even giants like Enterprise or National don’t use the word ‘Penalty’ to describe their cancellation charges. They also don’t sack the consumer with 60% of the cost nearly a month from the pickup. All that said, I started looking more closely at the actual booking and what it entails. I remember the site listing the bike rental cost as $124 per day. I rented the bike as a single-day Pickup at 9 am return at 5 pm. With all the taxes and fees, including a “Peak Season Surcharge,” the price came out to $225.68. Needless to say, I have learned a lesson here. That is never rent from Eagle Rider again. It is a real shame as every lost customer and bad review only results in the prices getting hiked for the remaining customers.   So Eagle Rider, if you are looking for the answer to your dwindling customer base only getting smaller, start training your customer service reps. Start looking at ways of getting what you want without completely screwing your customers. You could have kept a customer if you had trained and empowered that person properly. Leave T&Cs as they exist, train your service reps to refer to it as a cancellation charge, then empower them to discount that fee, especially when the rental was made within the window, and bike availability was plentiful. Also, the returned 40% of the grand total, including fees, was done as a store credit.

“Viva Las Vegas”

★★★★★

written by theexplorer on 24/09/2014

We decided to rent a Harley and tour the Las Vegas area. Dealing with EagleRiders was the best thing we did. I found them on the Web and called from Winnipeg Manitoba up in Canada. Everyone I spoke to, especially the adviser made it easy. The Best was when Fred made a few suggestions as to pick up time and destinations to see. We changed our schedule and they easily accommodated us. September 16th we left at 4PM and went to Red Rock Canyon for supper then returned to Las Vegas. I liked the fact that the Golden Nugget had free parking for motorcycles and a secured parking area. The next morning we went to Valley of Fire then Hoover Dam. We had a great time. Anyone going to Vegas should deal with EagleRiders—They even have a shuttle service. A 10 star operation Michael & Gail Philley from Winnipeg

“Very good experience”

I rented a Can Am Spyder from the Bellevill NJ rental agency. It was very easy to get set up and when I arrived things went very quick and I was on my way. When I discovered I did not like the Spyder I took it back and was ready to chuck it up as my bad decision but was asked if I wanted any thing else to ride. I then took a Harley Heritage home for the day. Eagle rider is a great place to rent a bike for a day, week etc. Looking forward to renting again soon.

“Excellent service, excellent bikes”

★★★★★

written by JuneEnglish228 on 21/03/2014

This was the 2nd time myself and a friend rent Electra Glide Harleys with them. 1st time in LA and 2nd time in Orlando. Both times the service was very good and the bikes were impecable. No problems whatsoever, very friendly and helpfull staff. Just be aweare thet the prices on bikes vary up to 40% depending on the location. Look for the cheapest stores. Both sotres I rented were corporate stores. They have stores in most of the touristic cities, and also help you in any store you go, independently if you rented the bike there or not. O got some help with a blown fuse in a Las Vegas Store, even renting from LA. Recommended!!!!

“Eaglerider San Diego. Caution: Greed people ahead”

★★☆☆☆

written by puravidados on 22/03/2012

We came from Spain for work in San Diego and we also planned a ride in the nearby of San Diego area during the 5 days stay in that nice town. Two years before, we rented in Dubbleiu in San Francisco with very good memory and wanted to repeat the experience. Now I can appreciate the value of that rental shop in SF. Eaglerider rentals: The shop is nice, and the motorcycles are very good. Things that we dont like were: 1- The description of the route: A pair of sheets of paper printed from Google with no details. Of course if you want a nice map, 10$ required. The dont give you a single offset copy of a good map. 2- No gloves. The salesman said, people dont like to were gloves from other people: Please, insert coin: buy some brand new gloves. They are not cheap, from 30-60 dollars. The route they recomend was in the mountains, and the day before snowed a lot ¡¡.... We were lucky that people like share helmets with other people , if not, we were said to buy a new helmet ¡¡¡ For me thats contradictory. Gloves no, helmet yes. 3- Helmet: Only 3 with year protection. No one with jaw protection. 4- The big issue: I made a tiny scratch, in a curb, after the motorcycle balanced to the right side. When I returned the moto to the shop the salesmen went directly to that area of the cycle, as if it was usual. Of course he found the tiny scratch. In that case, they said they must change all the bar piece. The result: 319 dollars. For me and my friends: that was like a robbery. To rent the cycle + insurance : 193 dollars. For a scratch: 319 $ The other motorcycle rented by my friend had plenty of scratchs. You know that when you rent a bike, is not new. Why they dont change or repair the scratch of that other motorcycle ? For us the question is clear: Anything you do bad: money, with the excuse that needs to be changed, but in fact after getting the money, they dont chane nothing at all. At least I made them to take out and give me the "absolutely" destroyed bar protection kit and now I have it in my home in Spain as a souvenir of a nice ride in San Diego with bad final history because of the greed of that comprehensive men ¡¡ As you may suppose: Please dont make deals with that kind of people. If not be prepared with your credit card.

Guest's Response to puravidados's Review

EagleRider San Diego Response:

In regards to the day ride we provide free of charge, yes it is a copy from Google maps and it offers step by step directions on one of San Diego's most popular rides. It is a free service that most customers appreciate as opposed to paying for a laminated map. We do offer Mad Maps at an additional charge as you stated.

EagleRider provides D.O.T. approved helmets with each rental and have found most of our riders prefer the half faced helmets.(Harley Riders) We do not currently provide full faced at this time.

EagleRider San Diego does not sell gloves as we are located inside a larger motorcycle repair and retail facility. The facility we are located in sells all sorts of motorcycle accessories and riding gear and we look to them to provide any additional gear that our riders may need. Gloves are not like helmets in which we spray after each rental. They are often times sweat in by other riders and we find germs, disease, etc. can pass from one rider to another. We always recommend bringing your own riding gloves as well as boots.

We are sorry that you feel as though you were treated unfairly upon the return of your motorcycle. Unfortunately you picked up a new motorcycle with zero damages upon departure and did in fact drop the motorcycle on the side upon it's return. As agreed upon in the rental contract you were accountable for any new damages to the bike. The repairs are common since the engine guard and bag guards are there to protect from any further damage. ie. tank, fairing, and saddle bags. We were happy to provide you the damaged parts as a souvenir (if you will) since they were to be replaced anyway.

Sincerely
EagleRider San Diego

Having rented harleys from both San Francisco and LAX and received good service,i planned my next road trip and intended to buy then ship back to the UK after the holiday.Getting an email address for a salesman at LAX from the live online contact provided by their website was difficult at best. When i did obtain an address for a CHANCE NEWTON i found him offhand and unhelpful possibly obstructive. He ignored emails and obviously was only interested in renting me a bike i already wanted to buy.I was misinformed as to the feasibility of my plan and am still waiting months later for a shipping cost and procedure.needless to say ive made other plans,my trip is going ahead an proves there are good people who will make dreams a reality .

I reserve a Polaris RZR. I received a confirmation email from eaglerider.com the company charge my credit card the full amount of
the reservation. I received a phone call 3 days before my
vacation, stating they did not have the equipment to rent. I find this to be
very poor business ethics. The woman in customer service was extremely
rude and unprofessional with us. I believe this issue to be fraudulent since
they sent out a confirmation and charged my credit card the full amount. Thanks for ruining our vacation!! I would never us this company.

The Wild West is still there to be explored and the adventure promised can be found if you have spirit. Be prepared for hours of riding each day and diverse weather. Watch out for the Eagle Rider small print when you pick up the bike. During the course of the tour each rider will have problems but good bikers will all help their fellows. Sort out which credit card and which phone operator to use before hand as they change in the different states. Be prepared for the best ride of your life.

We did the Wild West Tour and had a fantastic time. The Eagle rider staff were fantastic to deal with even when weather took a bad turn. Make sure you take clothes to cover all types of weather. The US riders took very little and had to deal with Snow ...so get the right gear. Go on these tours with an open mind and the biker brotherhood will make it the best thing you have ever done.

I'll be back

Maybe the poor bike riders were on cruiser bike with top speeds of 99MPH and dodgy handling at 75MPH +, which is what I found out LOL. A poor tour is one that does not cater for riders of all types and abilities. Fostering an encouraging attitide towards newer riders may help the situation rather than 'slamming them' ! Think about the time when YOU were just getting used to biking !
