It's hilarious why I am bullshitting ICICI after a good 18 years of being a Customer of theirs! I hold 2 debit cards, 2 credit cards and a Home Loan account through them and needless to say, ICICI has always been the first bank that came to my mind when someone spoke of one. Not anymore I guess. A whirlwind work-related trip to Ahmedabad and a 1 month delay in my Credit Card payment due to crazy schedules. Fine, the story does not stop there. I did pay that up though with a month's delay, least realising that there would be an interest-related statement that would come in too. Realised it after 3 months that month on month there was an interest of around 500 being charged on an actual late payment interest charge of Rupees 100/- and the amount to be paid was around 1780 by then!Never mind, my fault - so I grumbled but paid. This was over a month back. My Credit cards expired in June - and I mostly receive my replacement cards a little in advance. This time I did not, and I was wondering why. Called up the customer care to be told that the Cards are blocked due to delayed payment of the Interest charges(apparently they permanently block a card if the delay is more than three months)! Really? For a petty 100 rupees, and an inadvertent miss - you might as well have called me up to remind me that this is due? So, even after the payment has been done, apparently there is no way to un-block the card and I will have to re-apply for a new one. I did ask them why they could not have followed up - and their answer was that we send you the statements! No consideration that the actual principal amount has already been paid up way back in March, and that there has never been a delay in payments for any of my transactions any time in the last 18 years. Left me wondering why I was being so loyal to this bank? I felt so disgusted, and upset for being associated with a bank that is as inconsiderate towards its customers. So ICICI folks, thanks for all the hospitality. I really do not need your cards and no, I am not re-applying for another one - you'd be glad to know that I already have a few cards through other banks that I can happily use - and they do call me to remind me as the due dates come closer. Maybe, they focus and invest more on customer service than they do on Sales(yeah, I've had abundant calls to up-sell their products). But yes, what you will lose out on for a petty 100 rupee interest fee, that too paid, is a customer who could have sworn by you.and of course 2 savings accounts which I shall without hesitation transfer to another bank, and given a choice, my Home Loan too. I'm sad that an 18 year association had to end this way, so be it. Your customer centricity sucks!
