“Poor service”

I have used TD Waterhouse for quite a long time with out any problems but when they started to impose a quarterly charge I decided to close my account and move my investment. That was 11 weeks ago and they said it would take 4 weeks. They don’t answer emails, no body seems to be able to help me when I phone, after waiting at least 15 minutes to speak to someone, and don’t ring back as promised. What can I do?

“LOSE YOUR MONEY WITH TD”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JWICK on 22/02/2017

I would say it personally is my fault fro using TD Waterhouse. A huge catalogue of problems are apparent on various forums and reviews. It all started when my bank no longer had a share dealings account and my shares had been transferred to TD. Long story short I have lost a lot of money(as well as others have) because they will not give you LIVE prices. Their system is so complex to use you will be forced to call in and make sure you pay them £50 a trade as its only £12 on the net. They have a tendency to place your trade 3 minutes after placing and when as such bought at a the highest price for the day. When selling the execution will fail on numerous occasions as such you will lose money. Put the trade dispute and the typical response is "FCA agree with us that a 3 minute delay is reasonable." Its a shame that calls are not recorded for quality and training purposes. Surely after reading these reviews and seeing all these bad reviews, because of TD Waterhouse underhanded tactics, it is my fault as well as all the other customers who trade through them.

“Very poor customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RossiItaliansz127 on 02/02/2017

I tried to transfer a fund from Computershare to TD last September . They asked me to supply them with the C'share number and returned a copy of the paperwork I had sent them . I supplied the C'share number by email and they confirmed receipt but asked me to re-do all the paperwork . I asked why , got 1 weak response and then silence . I then phoned them and got someone on the FRONT DESK who , of course , had to go off and talk to the Transfer team ( back desk and not allowed to talk to clients !!!) This took some time and he came back eventually with the predicted response - I had to re-do the application . This I did and sent it off post-haste to the transfer team. After a few days I got a phone message asking me to call X . I got back to X and he did not know why he had called me in the first place but would GO AND TRY TO FIND OUT . This took 10M and he apologised and said he had no idea why he had called . I asked to be transferred to the Customer Services and Global Director - he was NOT ALLOWED TO DO THIS and said he would transfer me to someone more senior . AFTER 10M I hung up . Total time on the phone 25M TD has a serious problem by not allowing their transfer team talk directly to clients . They also appear to put their worst people directly in the front line . Moreover there does not appear to be a complaints procedure . Can anyone advise a decent Portfolio manager ??

“Declining Customer Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JimenaCasey474 on 22/07/2016

I've been with TD Waterhouse with my stocks and shares isa for probably 4 or 5 years. Over that time customer service has really declined. Now, it takes days to reply to simple questions over email. When I called to ask a question about fund charges, the representative didn't appear to understand how internal fund charges work. I had a conflicting answer from email, where I hoped to get a better response with a written example. Emails to their support go without reply or take days to have a short response that fails to address the question.

“Unreiable systems and rude telephone-based customer...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Collinsge78 on 07/04/2016

Numerous problems over the years, culminating in a decision to sell up all my holdings and move to another broker. A lost transfer of 6k, with an inept, rude TDW representative claiming that TDW had no record of the transaction, was the final straw. Repeat telephone enquiries, and pressure applied, resulted in the 6K magically appearing!

“Keep away of TDW”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AubreyWood496 on 25/03/2015

Keep away of those brokers. Only during the last 2 years, they made so many mistakes that it is even not possible to describe. They lost my share certificates which I sent to them, Some of my trading transactions has been cancelled, they credited into my account shares belonged to someone else, They lost my money transfer request when I was on holidays, and finally my account has been totally blocked. By now I can not get to my £50 000 which simply disappeared. All my enquires; "We can not say for security reason". Very convenient. Obviously they are trying to cover again they mistakes or even fraud of their own colleges.

“Platform upgrade 21/22 Feb 2015”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dealer2015 on 23/02/2015

This has to rank as one of the worst upgrades ever. TDW claim to "listen" to their customers! Boy they must have been wearing ear defenders when they rolled this one out! Talking of out, I'm out too, I've had enough of this poorly managed site and terrible Customer Service!

Farawueh's Response to Dealer2015's Review

Written on: 17/03/2015

"Easier, better, simpler". They seem to think that if they say it often enough, people will believe them. In reality, the new "upgrade" of the web site makes life more difficult with more steps required to reach your desired destination and none of the long-standing problems with the site sorted out. It is clear to me that the site developers have no hands-on experience of on-line trading. I've been with them to over 10 years but am seriously considering moving. I can't help wondering if they have adopted the "Selftrade" approach of trying to get rid of any serious clients for whatever reason.

“TERRIBLE”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Monahan294 on 21/01/2015

If you want to give ur self an aneurysm this is the broker for you. Terrible TERRIBLE website, a 10 year old could program the coding better !!! Customer service is unbelievably bad, your trusting a company with hundreds of thousand of pounds and yet they will leave you on hold for at least half an hour, will take at least 2 days to respond to an email and then you will never be able to talk to the same person twice so you have to go through everything from the start. They are also seriously rude at times. Your account will NEVER show the correct amount of funds or even the correct currency, like COME ON !!! I tried to transfer money out of my account cause I'm changing to IG (way way better), and they of course messed it up, taking more than 2 weeks to transfer money, it should only take a few hours at most. I literally can not think of even one half of a good thing to say about them. Save your self the stress and the hospital visit trade with ANY other broker.

I used to use these until against their word they started charging an inactivity fee with unreachable targets for a private investor, also when i closed my account they upped the charge from £10 per share to £20. Do not deal with this company.

“Terrible”

written by Brentw296 on 01/09/2014

TD Direct I have been with for years. I have suffered a lot of pain. Never respond to mail, correspondence and they take months to do transfer requests. Trading platform is on/off - luck if it works at all. Customer service has sunk to an all time low and I am moving everything now.

“Terrible platform, service and charges”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Chaney469 on 27/08/2014

I have a trading ISA with TD Direct and have to say, although it is easy to use, the trading platform is terrible. Non of the stock monitoring works and their prices/changes are delayed by around an hour so you have to use other services like google finance just to keep up to the minute on your shares. Their phone app only lets you monitor your account and won't let you transfer in or trade at all and it constantly crashes. At £12.50 a trade for the UK its pretty average in comparison to other investment companies (I'm sure there are cheaper ones). The only reason I moved to them was because they offered £70 reward for a £10,000 investment. What really annoys me is their approach to overseas trading. They charge a massive £17.50 to buy and £17.50 to sell and on top of this they charge 2% above and below the exchange (FX) rate. So you end up buying 2% below the exchange rate so your sterling does not give you many dollars and when you sell they charge you 2% above the exchange rate so that the conversion to sterling gives you less. This is absolutely rubbish and was never told of this when opening my account. In fact it took me 2 hours to find all this nonsense in the "fine print". The customer service is appauling and the staff have no clue what they're doing or talking about. They're clearly just in it to rip people off. Keep this in mind - if you want to invest abroad DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. Your shares will have to increase by 4% AND return your £35 total buy/sell fee before you even break even!

“Absolutely Awful in nearly every aspect”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AleenaFox on 07/07/2014

TD waterhouse are completely disorganised. You should AVOID THEM. I have had numerous porblems with them - transferring in, horrendous FX charges, wrongly stated accounts, non executed trades, and to cap it off when leaving them because of all these issues, terrible delays trying to exit. This includes SIPP, ISA and standard brokerage service. Very stressful interacting with them and trying to resolve queries. They do not log calls properly. Overall I would advise anyone to not got near them.

“Great for online trading”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bradford456 on 23/06/2014

This is an easy platform to use and great fro trading electronically. However, they have many hidden admin fees and their customer service does need improving. Most of the (English) call center staff seem unwilling to help and have been rude to me in the past. This needs to be addressed.

“Poor SIPP administration”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Greta336 on 25/03/2014

I have a SIPP and Trading account with TD Direct Investing since 2010. Their service has gone from okay to poor. IF you are thinking of opening a SIPP with them, stay away! Let me tell you about my experiences: 1) My employer wants to make a single contribution. I send in a form to "authorize" it. TD does not allow my employer to pay in, or amend any standing orders or direct debits, without prior "approval" by me. Fine. I send in the single contribution form. They tell me it's out of date (??!!), even though I had only downloaded it two weeks ago, then had to get my employer to approve it. I have to resend form, wasting a month in process. 2) Setting up direct debits. My employer had to send this in three times as each time the form was filled out "wrong"! Wrong = some minor error, like forms out of date or did not submit direct debit approval form together with the regular contribution form. This is despite having a direct debit and regular contribution already set up, and all they need to do is change the amount. So, when employers change their pension contributions each year, they have to send in a bucketload of forms and make sure the direct debits all go through! My employer changed my pension contribution in January, and it's end of March and the amount still hasn't been changed! 3) Payments go missing in their system. Far by the most frustrating one. My employer sends in a payment (after submitting all the right forms and checking up that TD has received the forms - you can only send in a payment after TD receives the forms!). Payment is missing. You have to call, and call, and call to get this problem fixed. In summary, don't go for TD direct investing!!

“Terrible Service Expensive Account Costs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rabberto on 07/11/2013

As others have said,TD's platform is pretty ropey. They never seem to have data/graphs for shares outside the UK. Their support during corporate actions is poor, you end up having to searching the internet to find out what is going on. When my wife recently closed her ISA which only held cash all stocks had already been sold, TD charged £100 to close the account. What a bunch of robbers.

“Very poor customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/09/2013

I live in 3 UK, France and Cyprus. I have been using TDW for many years without a problem then I was asked to complete a W8-BEN form for the US authorities in early 2013. Since then I have had numerous letters saying they can not accept the form for varying reasons. Finally 10 days ago having submitted the form for the 4th time my account has been blocked. I am unable to trade at a very sensitive time simply because of the inadequacy of their administration. Unbelievably poor service ethic made worse by an inability to communicate with a client by anything other than letter, which they know will be sent to an address where I am not living at present. ABSOLUTELY HOPELESS.

“Avoid”

★☆☆☆☆

written by vickersa on 13/08/2013

Shouldn't be allowed to operate in UK, unfit for purpose. Website is unstable, only works (sort of) with obsolete versions of IE. Prices often unavailable or out of date on anything but the most common UK stocks. Customer service by phone non-existent (once you get through the interminable wait) - no-one ever has any authority to do anything, and they NEVER call you back. They are unable to deal with any but the most simple of corporate actions. A disgraceful outfit.

“Completely lost in their own fantasty world.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 07/08/2013

Never consider TD Waterhouse. Turn and run away from them. We never dreamt that such a loser service could possibly exist. Each form had to be refilled 3 or 4 and resubmitted times cause they lost them all or gave the wrong instructions. No has a clue whats going on. Their website says that if the minimum number of trades is not completed then you pay a fee, $20 or $30. Their agents, after receiving all our investment funds, reused to give us their service, other than the totally useless introductory service. We wasted a year of investing with them. Pulling all business from all td branches and waterhouse. They just don't care about customers. Run.
