Far too many trades fail and there starting price for trades is £12.50p and not competitive at all. Couple this with admin fees per quarter if you do not trade and it works out expensive! Too many trades fail when you hit the buy or sell button causing financial loss and heartache! STAY AWAY!!!! (read more)

I opened a Trading ISA with TD Waterhouse making a small £200 deposit in February 2013. I added to my account in early April to make full use of 2012/13 ISA allowance. Having tried unsuccessfully to buy the stock I wanted through their website I closed my account. I have been charged £96 admin fee to close the account - fees are hidden away and you can't access the information until you have registered on their site. I would not have tried to buy my ISA through them if I had known I would... (read more)

I wanted to close a self-select ISA and phoned to do so. I was hanging on the phone for over half an hour and then told it costs me £100 to close my ISA!!! This is disgusting daylight robbery and is on top of the annual admin fee that they charge and many other providers do not. I will never touch them again. (read more)

We were originally with ETrade UK who were fantastic - you got intelligent people on the phone who actually helped, consistently, and communicated properly by email or letter. When ETrade closed down in the UK we were transferred to TD Waterhouse (now TD Direct - why?) Since then everything has gone downhill - we had a nightmare with a power of attorney for aged parents, the web site contact is not getting replies, you can wait on their telephone number for 30 minuts or more before speaking... Only used for UK stocks / funds. It soon became obvious to me that if you want anything done other than buying / selling online (in my case I wanted to transfer in shares via a certificate)they are completely and utterly useless. Excessive times, ignoring client instructions, no communication or incorrect communication. I have moved, suggest you consider their poor customer service (premium rate numbers only) before joining. I put a limit order, although the share price went well above and volumes were strong, the order did not get executed. During one month I did not know wether the order was executed as my holdings of the stock was zero. Share price of the stock declined and it appeared the order did not go through. I lost £400, of course the stock price could recover. However the response of TD waterhouse was insulting "we will provide our best endeavour for execution" etc. As a result I have transfered my... I have been on hold for the last 30 minutes trying to get through to customer service. This is the second time this has happened in the last fortnight. When the service works its good, but the website is poorly laid out and you often have to speak to someone because you can't find the answer you want on it. If you then have to wait 30 mins - well, it's awful. I would avoid. (read more)

Have used this platform for over 12 months now, was attracted to the low transaction costs. This however is very misleading due to the far in excess of market management fees and scandalous closure fees. Also their Market fill orders failed on me twice resulting in loss of profits. Their staff when called are rude, unprofessional and clueless to the product they are offering. Avoid like the plague (read more)

I presently trade with TD Waterhouse having been transferred from Hoodless Brennan when Td took over their accounts but I have to say TD Waterhouse costs are high £12.50 per trade £12.50 quarter inactivity fee unless you have over £7500 in the account and a scandalous £50 account closure fee. I would also say that their services have been poor with their website going slow and going down several times in the past which I found very frustrating. I am looking to close my TD account and... Had the account for a couple of years and wanted to close the account since I'm no longer doing any trading. On top of the administration charge, there's £50+VAT charge as 'other charges', which I was never aware of. The telephone person proudly said 'that's why we don't let you to withdraw funds lower than £100'. The man also said, 'That's the way we work I'm afraid'. I suppose if you're some sort of big investor, this is nothing, but if you're just looking for an alternative way of ISA,... (read more)

I have had ISA and trading accounts with this company for a number of years and have found them very efficient. There are probably cheaper providers out there but the customer service at TD Waterhouse is worth paying that little extra. An example being that i was once misquoted on a sell order and thinking that was the current market price agreed to sell. However on checking the recent trades i realised that the error had cost me several hundred pounds. One phone call and they cancelled the... (read more)

I recently opened both trading and ISA share dealing accounts with TD Waterhouse. I have had accounts with a couple other online execution-only brokers in the past (barclays, Hargreaves Lansdown) and from what I've experienced so far TD Waterhouse are the best. I contacted their customer service department the other week and the representative was very polite and helpful. I had a few questions regarding my ISA account and he proved to be very knowledgeable. The website is functional and... (read more)

I have used TDW for little over a year and at first I found the service good although the website is slow and some features like the Portfolio Exray have never worked.
Recently there have been a lot of mistakes and problems on the website. The investment figures shown in my portfolio are incorrect and I cannot see what my holding amount to. Customer services do not seem to address the actual issues. I am losing confidence in this service.

TDWaterhouse online trading.
The only reason I am with TDWaterhouse is because when American Express
Sharepeople gave up on they trading service everyone got transferred to TDW.
Overall, I would say if you are dealing primarily in funds and in UK stocks,
then I would not recommend TDWaterhouse. If you are keen on trading US and EUR
shares, then I cannot comment much.
Customer service is usually slow, and never seems to quite understand what your problem is.

My experience with TD waterhouse has been good, it offers an easy to use and accurate interface to buy and sell stocks.
I use ADVFN to check realtime prices, financials information and charts.
A mixture of ADVFN, Interactive Investor and London South East for informative and speculation on the discussion boards.
I have had occasional problems buying and selling when the volumes are high. Not neccessarily a TD waterhouse issue.

I am relatively new to the share dealing world and a small investor. The general feeling I get from TD is distinct apathy. I have had countless issues with them ranging from a repeated inability to extract funds from my account, to them selling shares to pay their admin fee despite there being £800 cash sat in my account. Their online service is very poor and seems to do what it thinks it should resulting in a need to ring the telephone line. I might as well have a telephone broker. And... (read more)

not suitable for retail investors. Have no interest in spread betting. That's just gambling. But for trading in US denominated securities its pointless. Bid price offered on stock not reflected in portfolio screen showing gain/loss denominated in Serling. £65 gain after £12.50 commission fee mysteriously becomes £1 without any explanation from customer service. They just bang on about fx rate spread. Fine but if portfolio gain/loss shown in Sterling already then whatever fx rate applied... (read more)

The few times I had the misfortune of dealing with TD Waterhouse I found them to be unhelpful and offhand. They charged me several times an "inactivity fee" when I hadn't traded for some time. I presume they regard that having an account with them to be some sort of privilege which customers have to pay for. Avoid them like the plague. (read more)

the charges/prices are very good but this does not mean you get the best service.
mistakes were common place, slow to execute deals and to refresh online screen, screen mistakes and crashes common.
i was in for the long haul but to be honest, i could not trust the system and it ended up more hassle than it was worth keepng an eye on mistakes and then trying to rectify.

TD Waterhouse spread betting is a cheap service but there is a risk I'll lose hundreds more because I can't work out how to execute at current market prices. Support from TD Waterhouse is not that good - they seem to expect users to understand spread-betting terminology. The help screen is as clear as mud because it uses different terminology to describe the same thing. Clearly written by a 'technician'. The use of American-English is evident and it adds to the confusion. Opinions given by phone differ according to the individual you talk to. Best talk to the margin and the dealers rather than with customer service - they are ok and... (read more)
