“Don't be surprised if it's not in stock”

written by stavroy on 16/11/2011

I ordered a Nikon D3100 camera and chose the 3yr warranty, Samsonite case and extra battery package. The camera was said to be out of stock, then arriving next week, then week after then the week after that bla bla bla. It took almost 2 months to arrive, I received it at the end of January this year and I am still waiting for the extra battery. Despite numerous phone calls to their office ( which is not cheap as I live in Cyprus) and them telling me they had been let down by their supplier, I decided to see if they had a battery in stock on line and sure enough they had. I called them and suggested they send me one of these to complete the order, they refused. They did however offer to sell me one for £35 plus delivery, almost twice the price I had been quoted elsewhere. This company is a complete and utter waste of space, given the choice again I would pay a few pounds more and use a reputable company.

ordered a digital camera from this company & was under the impression it was in-stock, had an email shortly after confirming the item was currently out of stock, i would adivise anybody wishing to order from this company to phone or email before ordering any items, they are quick enough to charge you for the item when you go through payment system.

I ordered a 550D about a month ago. All though they did not take any monies they coudl not confirm a date for delivery. They just kept stating stock problems at Canon. I could not find such stories on the internet. First it was June for stock delivery then July then now August. They do have the best package on the internet for the price but what is the point when you have to wait months for delivery. I have now purchased from another supplier who has stock and can deliver within two days.

Total scam merchants, avoid like the plague. Complete online purchase and checkout process without problems, receive invoice as confirmation. Within the hour receive email informing me that the item is not in stock - it appears stock levels and online ordering are not linked. Send email complaining about the fact that the best part of a grand has been debited to my card for something which is not available - Best Cameras reply that stock is expected by day close. Weekend goes by before I receive another email telling me goods cannot be shipped because of security issues, as my billing address is not recognised (despite the fact I use very same card on Amazon on a weekly basis and have lived at this address for four years) followed by yet another email telling me to ignore previous email: goods cannot be shipped because I am not registered with 3D Secure (of which there was no mention at any point during online transaction). In the meantime, though, the £939 sale has been approved by my card merchant and shows on my online statement. I am told by the credit card merchant there is nothing I can do as it's too late to block the transaction and I have to wait for it to be cancelled by Best Cameras In a nutshell: no goods, a considerable amount of money lost in limbo thanks to an operation which is incompetent at best, dishonest at worst.

“Best Cameras has to be the worst experience of online...”

Best Cameras has to be the worst experience of online shopping I have ever had! Made an order for £470 and the money was taken directly, I then recieved an email letting me know the camera was not in stock!! I phoned them, they said they might get them in the week. I phoned a week later and they said it will be another week, so I ordered another camera from a more respectful company (should have done that to start with) to then recieve another email from them telling me it was being dispatched and my money was taken from my account yet again!! I have since cancelled my order after having some heated conversations with the unprofessional and unfriedly staff at their call centre. What a nightmare never again!!

Tried to buy a camera on Best Cameras site today. Had many problems with the payments and ended up calling the number to be given a lesson by rude person on how my address was wrong and that i needed to contact my bank while I have been using this card, address etc. for more than 5 years on a weekly basis for internet purchases. Totally unhelpful and rude. Ended up buying on another web site for the same price

“Best Cameras are an awful mickey mouse operation. ...”

Best Cameras are an awful mickey mouse operation. Once again another cheap outfit whose website bears no relation to their stock levels. I ordered a D90 package and paid for next day delivery. All great right? Wrong! After giving my payment details and getting confirmation page with order number I decided to be sure and phoned them to see if they had my order and it was indeed next day delivery. I got some jumped up teenager on the phone who in a sarcastic tone said "well you do know it is out of stock dont you?" Well no actually I didnt, as I just odered it on your website and it didnt alert me to any problems. The rep in question was so cheeky and had devil may care attitude that I asked for her manager. He proceeded to try to tell me that it was quite proper that the website should not be linked to stock and I should have phoned before ordering. Hmmmm isnt the whole point of the internet that you dont have to phone? Anyway, suffice to say - steer clear of this website shocking service, no apology and the staff have an attitude that we land them all back on the dole where they belong.

They don't necessarily have the items they are selling. I bought a camera from them, then went and bought accessories for it from elsewhere, then got an email from them saying they no longer stock the item! They were still advertising it as far as I am aware.
Wouldnt use again and dont recommend bestcameras.co.uk.

“I had a Ricoh superzoom digital camera gifted to me...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by lohsmith on 13/01/2008

I had a Ricoh superzoom digital camera gifted to me for christmas. It was purchased a few days before christmas, and arrived on time, which impressed the person who bought it for me.

On christmas day, I did what anyone does...switched the camera on; after all, how can one tell if an electrical item that is given as a gift is suitable, without opening the box and switching it on? It turned out that the zooming mechanism was ridicolously loud, and the camera wouldn't take pictures indoors without being really dark and grainy. (I played about with the menus, trying to improve its performance...yet, it failed to perform anywhere near the 3 year old Sony V1 it was to replace; and markedly worse than the budget Canon Ixus 70 that my brother purchased from America.)

As such, i got in touch with the company; informed them that i had switched the item on, as you do on christmas day when you receive something that may well suit your needs 100%. I was duly informed both by the discourteous girl that answered the phone, and then by the manager, that there would be no chance of a refund of any kind, as the camera had been switched on. I found this incredulous---how could it be legal for a camera company that sells at distance, to sell items around christmas, and be so adamant that they were not going to offer a refund ?

So, i consulted the distance selling regulations, which stipulated that I was fully entitled to a refund, given that the item was purchased within 7 working days, and had been treated with due care...

I sent them a fax after spending time reading the distance selling regulations, to which the manager conceded that i was indeed entitled to a refund. So, i sent the camera back, fully protected with bubble wrap; markedly more protected than it had been received. However, I hadn't realised that the person who purchased the camera had taken the camera out of its plastic bag, and so, it arrived at BestCameras without this bag.

I was left an answermachine to say that the camera would not be refunded because items were missing. I called up and was once again talked down to, only to find out that it was because of a plastic bag that the camera wasn't being refunded. Given that I agreed to the £10 restocking fee, and that i had chosen to purchase the camera from a smaller stockist, believing that it's good to support the smaller retailers, i found it once again unbelievable that they would be so petty !

They eventually agreed to a refund after i questioned whether they really expected me to go through the rubbish to look for a plastic bag that had been thrown out in error.

It is a shame that they offer such poor aftersales service, given that the purchasing and delivery of the items was exemplary...

If you are purchasing a camera that is not available on the high street, and therefore can't be tested before purchase, should you wish to return it. It has been a huge waste of time, and given me real reason never to purchase from small independent online sites !

Any company that makes rules up about returns will rightly never get a recommendation from me !
