I first visited the Wagon Wheel some years ago and I have to say I was less than impressed. Having not visited since I was interested to see if anything had changed. On arrival the car park was busy, a good sign I thought.
Once inside it looked the same as it did 9 years ago, tired and very old fashioned. I was ushered into the bar with the rest of my party and was surprised at the limited choice of wine or lager, especially for a restaurant of its' size. 2 lagers is simply not good enough. With regards to the house wine, I wasn't expecting Sancerre but an average Pinot would have done the job. However, the wine was warm and cheap. Once inside the restaurant, it was much of the same with old, tired looking decor and dralon curtains.
The age range was also older and I would suggest not particularly a child friendly venue.
The food if I'm being kind, was at best well below average. However, what I will remember most from my visit was the service. In a word it was 'terrible'.
I dine out fairly often all over the midlands and I have to say the service here ranks in the worst 3 or 4 of the restaurants I have visited. I felt as though the party was an inconvenience to the staff, who simply looked as though they didn't want to be there pretty much throwing the food onto the table. I asked 3 times for extra bread, in the end I simply gave up. I also visited the bar 3 times during the length of our visit as none of the staff offered to replenish our drinks. Very very disappointed and not a place I will visit again.

Absolutely scandalous. Ordered beef and it came out as a plate of fat which still looked alive it was that raw. The staff were the most rudiest I have ever come across. The customers were also very rude and it is definitely not child friendly. Will not be visiting again as everytime I think of the cow practically still mooing on my plate I feel physically sick!!

As though entering a time-warp...very old, dated decor, 3/4 wine glasses on the table were chipped at the base, bizarre waiting staff set-up - lots of people flying around your table all trying to get over-cooked food onto your plate as quickly as possible. Food not the worst, although very unhappy to see desserts brought on a trolley without covers and to top it off the cream on top of my pie was off, resembling cottage cheese. A very expensive, stomach churning event.
