Had one of these for one year approx and it is an amazing piece of kit. Its a plodder rather than a high revving cutter and hence due to the design branches are reduced to a rough rather than fine mulch. If you have a big garden like me, buy one .... you won't regret it!!

Like several others reviewing this product my Flymo Pac A Shred Shredder has broken. The casting holding the cutting plate has cracked all the way around. Additionally the machine is very heavy and cumbersome, and actually rather slow to use even before it broke. I paid nearly £200 pounds - a rip off.

I bought the Flymo Pac a Shredder as a birthday present for my wife but having read through some of these reviews I felt I had wasted my money before she even tried it.......... We had recently taken down a 20ft high leylandii, put the trunk to one side for use on the log burner next year and were left with a huge pile of greenery. Today we have been in the garden all day (10 hours) and have shredded non stop, except when we broke off for lunch. The only time it stopped other than that was when ...

Bought a Flymo Pac a shredder in Feb 2009-used it twice for twigs
Got it out again this week June 2009- still does twigs but anything else just passes right through unscathed. The adjuster thing isnt working .I phone Flymo - most unhelpful - cut me off TWICE- kept repeating only the motor and switches are guaranteed anything else - forget it.
Its still under guarantee - apparently sale of goods act not recognised by Flymo.
Im taking it back to B&Q for a refund

Purchased a Flymo Pac A Shred about 16 months ago and at first it did everything asked of it. Removed it from the shed this summer to dispose of the garden waste and it wouldn't shred. All it produced was a long line of half chopped garden waste. After watching it work for a while I noticed that the plastic cover around the adjusting screw was pulsating in and out. Upon investigation I found that the motor housing where the adjusting screw for the cutting plate threads through was broken and a s ...

I've had two in the last month and both have failed for the same reason. The machine uses a bladed cog, which cuts against a striking plate. The plate is adjusted with an Allen key so that it it is kept in contact with the the cutting cog. Unfortunately after a day's use with branches close to the maximum thickness the adjustment mechanism gives up the ghost allowing branches to pass between the cog and the plate virtually unscathed. The first one was replaced by B&Q. I took the second one to an ...

Really did my homework on buying a shredder. It was a toss up between the Flymo and the Bosch AXT 2200HP. I was outbid on Ebay for the Bosch and then spotted a brand new, still-in-the-box BIN Flymo Pac A Shred Shredder for £130 being sold by someone in the next town.
Used it today for three hours and I was amazed by the way the machine gobbled up the branches and cuttings I fed it. The plastic collection box is really a bonus - easy to unship and transfer the mulch into plastic bags. The ...

After doing some research on the web, I picked the Flymo Pac A Shred Shredder because I wanted a quiet shredder which would auto feed, and was reasonably priced(£169 B&Q). It has performed very well.
I under stand the previous comments about larger pieces after shredding, but this is not a problem for me, as I wanted just to reduce the volume of trimmings before taking to my local tip, rather than composting.
To sum up, If it fits in this unit, it will shred it without effort and very qu ...

This Flymo Pac A Shred is my third shredder, and by far the best. It dealt with a mountain of laurel quickly and quietly, far surpassing my expectations. It coped with thick branches with real ease.

Just purchased one of these Flymo Pac A Shred Shredder today after killing a cheap 'Pro performance' cheapo shredder. It will chop anything you throw at it and it's quick. The mechanism uses a sharp toothed gear which seems pretty robust. It folds away neatly into it's own box and has wheels to get around on.
Would say it is generally heavier than other shredders I have seen probably because it's built like a tank.
    Definitely would recommend.

If you're thinking about buying Flymo Pac A Shred I would recommend you to look else where. The interlocking mechanism is the weakest point in the system.
The user manual (just an A3 page) is very badly written.
Bought this from Wyevale, they dealt with the problem professionally.
The contacted Flymo to get a replacement, 10days later still no response from Flymo.
I contacted Wyevale and requested they refund my money. Don't look to Flymo for good aftersales service.

Excellent shredder. Would recommend highly despite minor points listed above. It does the job well. The aluminium plate against which it chops does wear so the blade needs frequent adjustement, but the alluminium is thick so should take a lot of abuse before it needs replacing. We had to service ours and adding some extra grease made the mechanism quieter still. The amount of grease placed in there from manufacture was probably a bit mean.

This is more a 'chopper' than a shredder. It does not shred or chip but chops everything into 1/2-1" lengths. Branches, for example, are chopped and crushed rather than chipped whilst thin material will pass through virtually untouched.
On the positive side, it will reduce branches to a pile of chopped pieces in a trice: if you can get it into the jaws , it will chop it.
We were very pleased with the ease of use and the speed of with which the Flymo Pac A Shred can handle an afternoons pruning ...

I would buy the Flymo Pac A Shred Garden Shredder again tomorrow! It is easy to use, and it copes with absolutely everything we have. We now have a great rough mulch, which smells heavenly, as we have shredded our bay tree prunings etc. It is easy to clean and store, and compared to our last shredder, it is very quiet in operation.

I did a lot of general research when I purchased the Flymo Pac A Shred shredder, but I could not find any reviews, as it is a new product. There were plenty of other makes that got lousy reviews though. I found a couple of sites where they had a video of the Flymo shredder in action, and I liked the easy store and built-in collection box, plus the specs suggested that the shredder was pretty powerful and robust. So I took a risk and bought one online from Woolworths for about £170.

    Well ...
