Visited on a Saturday lunchtime and ordered 'toad in the hole' and a fillet of steak (very rare). The food took about 45 mins to arrive. When it finally arrived the toad in the hole was not a light batter as advertised in the menu, but like a brick. Very disappointed. My husbands 'very rare' steak arrived as a medium steak. When the waitress asked if the meals were ok, we said no. she asked if we would order something else, but as we had already wasted 45 mins we decided against it. No management ...- Read Guest's review (123 words)

Totally unorganised. Cannot book in advance. Turn up to get a table- no one to greet customers. So you try to find your own table (with number on it). Try to get a drink at the bar and then told to join a queue...with others who are ordering food and paying their bills - then watch people stand at the bar and get served. Outrageous lack of customer care and management skills...no passion...just a job for the staff. Saw Managers constantly serving food to tables rather than manage.

Just returned from The Dragonfly for a Mothers Day meal. Service was excellent and food was brought to our table quite speedily considering the day and occasion. Food was plentiful and absolutely beautifully cooked. No hesitation whatsoever to recommend to anyone. Did read one or two of the existing reviews and was completely satisfied with what we found, which was contrary to one or two reviews. First class in all aspects. No hesitation in recommending for quality, quantity, service and cost ...- Read eating's review (88 words)

At The Dragonfly, the tables did not appear to be cleaned up after each customer. The food (sunday roast) was no where near as good as it smelt. It looked like it had all come out of a freezer. The girl serving us said she was going off to get some sauces and never returned until we'd finished to ask if we wanted anything else. The staff did not seem very pleasant to us and we will not be going back there again.- Read Maopin's review (95 words)

Went this evening for family celebration, my daughters engagement. There were 8 of us as my son and his fiance use the place regularly and asked the close family to join them. The whole experience was outstanding! Other reviewers stated about ordering at the bar, I prefer that as you put the order when you're ready and not pressured. After you do that everything else is done with 5 star service without having to move (even floater coffees made fresh at the table). An outstanding visit to th ...- Read jackiecad's review (116 words)

We went to the Dragonfly because we had been unable to get in at the Cardiff Gate as they were so busy. The Dragonfly was quiet, but they had no highchair available - they only have 2.
My husband's steak meal was ok but my beef sunday roast was cold and extremely unappetising. I went home and had a cheese sandwich. It was a measly offering of reasonable beef with a yorkshire, with 3 overcooked roast potatoes and a few uncooked carrots and green beans. Definitely not value for money. I'm not goi ...- Read pengi904's review (109 words)

We went to the Dragonfly for my 21st birthday meal. The food was great and for the price we paid it was well worth the visit
Eating there today for the second time.
I would most definitely recommend this restaurant for just a bite to eat or even a special occasion!- Read Guest's review (60 words)

This restaurant is great, fantastic service, great food, nice wines, a fantastic time (any time of day) to go out. As a regular diners-we out-tried 'the ruperra,' 'Tredegar arms,' 'Juntion 28,' 'The British Raj.' Nothing has been up to the standard of this restuarant! It's a lottery? But we have always experienced the best hospitality and fuel here.'We disagree with other human beings' any problems (only once) since we have been going if anything ever goes wrong (rare)...it is apologetically dea ...- Read yoneeeeeeeeee's review (103 words)

We had been to The Dragonfly quite a few times before but only for drinks. It was my birthday so we decided to have a meal there. Me and my partner ordered Sirloin steak. We were asked how we would like it cooked and we both replied very well done. After waiting 30 minutes plus, our meals arrived. Both our steaks were so blackened that when they were cut into, it was like they produced soot they were so burned! We called the waitress over and explained we wanted it very well done and not burnt a ...- Read rezella's review (166 words)

Will not be going here again. Our table was sticky, I did ask for a cloth to wipe it down but the young lady behind the counter said she would do it, she didn't do it before our food turned up. The menu said the food came with seasonal greens. We were expecting a selection not just sad looking green beans.
With the pudding they also missed off the toffee sauce on the apple eve and the chocolate sauce on the sundae. When asked for the sauces we got the chocolate sauce and golden syrup to replace ...- Read jonah1967's review (100 words)

On arrival The Dragonfly in Newport was extremely busy which usually means a nightmare when dining out! How wrong was I? I was greeted by a Very friendly gentleman who informed us that there was a wait for tables he took our name and informed us that a table for us would take approx 20-30 mins we decided to wait as we were really hungry.
I approached the bar thinking I was going to be in for a long wait but was acknowledged by '2' of the team members with eye contact and a friendly smile and sur ...- Read Guest's review (340 words)

The Dragonfly, Cleppa Park, Newport
Visit date: 27/10/07
Service prior to meal:
We arrived at 19:30 there were large queues when trying to get a drink at the bar prior to the meal, however you could see that the staff were working as quickly as they could, the service even though they were very busy was still very well-mannered.
You have to go up to another counter to place your food order, again this was a large que you then get passed a spoon with a number on to take to a table. You choos ...- Read b1b2b3b4's review (398 words)

The Dragonfly is a posh-ish pub and looks like it's been there forever. Low ceilings, mish-mash matching of old chairs and tables, partly carpeted / partly flagstone floored; it's really quite nice. There's a huge selection of wines by the glass, and they make their own lemonade and other soft drinks, which is a nice touch.
I nipped in for lunch during a working day, and I was firstly disappointed that the menu STILL hasn't changed, though they do a daily-fish special.
It's not a large m ...- Read Welsh Foodie's review (376 words)
