Good Points: Outstanding Service.
Bad Points: I don't live nearer.
General comments: Went this evening for family celebration, my daughters engagement. There were 8 of us as my son and his fiance use the place regularly and asked the close family to join them. The whole experience was outstanding! Other reviewers stated about ordering at the bar, I prefer that as you put the order when you're ready and not pressured. After you do that everything else is done with 5 star service without having to move (even floater coffees made fresh at the table). An outstanding visit to this type of restaurant great food, perfect atmosphere, extremly friendly service (always the case according to my son).Just wish I lived nearer, well done.

Recently moved to the area and visited the The Dragonfly in Tredegar on a few occasions. On each visit I have found the staff to be friendly, food great and plentiful and good value for money for a pub/restaurantThe pub is always busy but has never impacted on food or service. We have visited a few other restaurants in the area but none are as good.

We went to the Dragonfly because we had been unable to get in at the Cardiff Gate as they were so busy. The Dragonfly was quiet, but they had no highchair available - they only have 2.
My husband's steak meal was ok but my beef sunday roast was cold and extremely unappetising. I went home and had a cheese sandwich. It was a measly offering of reasonable beef with a yorkshire, with 3 overcooked roast potatoes and a few uncooked carrots and green beans. Definitely not value for money. I'm not goi ...

We went to the Dragonfly for my 21st birthday meal. The food was great and for the price we paid it was well worth the visit
Eating there today for the second time.
I would most definitely recommend this restaurant for just a bite to eat or even a special occasion!

This restaurant is great, fantastic service, great food, nice wines, a fantastic time (any time of day) to go out. As a regular diners-we out-tried 'the ruperra,' 'Tredegar arms,' 'Juntion 28,' 'The British Raj.' Nothing has been up to the standard of this restuarant! It's a lottery? But we have always experienced the best hospitality and fuel here.'We disagree with other human beings' any problems (only once) since we have been going if anything ever goes wrong (rare)...it is apologetically dea ...

We had been to The Dragonfly quite a few times before but only for drinks. It was my birthday so we decided to have a meal there. Me and my partner ordered Sirloin steak. We were asked how we would like it cooked and we both replied very well done. After waiting 30 minutes plus, our meals arrived. Both our steaks were so blackened that when they were cut into, it was like they produced soot they were so burned! We called the waitress over and explained we wanted it very well done and not burnt a ...

Will not be going here again. Our table was sticky, I did ask for a cloth to wipe it down but the young lady behind the counter said she would do it, she didn't do it before our food turned up. The menu said the food came with seasonal greens. We were expecting a selection not just sad looking green beans.
With the pudding they also missed off the toffee sauce on the apple eve and the chocolate sauce on the sundae. When asked for the sauces we got the chocolate sauce and golden syrup to replace ...

On arrival The Dragonfly in Newport was extremely busy which usually means a nightmare when dining out! How wrong was I? I was greeted by a Very friendly gentleman who informed us that there was a wait for tables he took our name and informed us that a table for us would take approx 20-30 mins we decided to wait as we were really hungry.
I approached the bar thinking I was going to be in for a long wait but was acknowledged by '2' of the team members with eye contact and a friendly smile and sur ...

The Dragonfly, Cleppa Park, Newport
Visit date: 27/10/07
Service prior to meal:
We arrived at 19:30 there were large queues when trying to get a drink at the bar prior to the meal, however you could see that the staff were working as quickly as they could, the service even though they were very busy was still very well-mannered.
You have to go up to another counter to place your food order, again this was a large que you then get passed a spoon with a number on to take to a table. You choos ...

The Dragonfly is a posh-ish pub and looks like it's been there forever. Low ceilings, mish-mash matching of old chairs and tables, partly carpeted / partly flagstone floored; it's really quite nice. There's a huge selection of wines by the glass, and they make their own lemonade and other soft drinks, which is a nice touch.
I nipped in for lunch during a working day, and I was firstly disappointed that the menu STILL hasn't changed, though they do a daily-fish special.
It's not a large m ...
