General comments: What Was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn is the story of a young girl in the 1980's who; fascinated by the day to day goings on in a local shopping centre - Green Oaks, suddenly disappears one day never to be seen again. The story then jumps to a 2003 Green Oaks and follows the story of Lisa; the deputy manager of a music store who's worn out with all the strange behaviour of the customers and her colleagues, and the security guard with whom she strikes a friendship, Kurt. Together, they begin to uncover the story of the lost little girl.
This book is a real page turner and Catherine O'Flynn has crafted such a tightly woven tale that saying too much about each of the characters parts in the plot would give too much away. There are plenty of bizarre, laugh out loud moments of peculiarity and the surprises just keep on coming. Very exciting author, would fully recommend this book.
