Good Points: A good sound, and a larger screen than most

Bad Points: Could do with an extra scart socket

General comments: I have had the Hitachi C28W430N widescreen TV for 3 years. It has suddenly started turning itself off intermittently, and then not coming on at all - just staying in stand-by mode. What's frustrating for me is that I have a 5 year guarantee with Alders, but they are in liquidation at present. I have had other Hitachi products that have lasted.

This one appears to be a common fault. Is there someone out there who knows whether this fault is repairable? Please can you leave me a comment on here? Many thanks!

My Hitachi C28W430N widescreen TV also switches itself off at will, and is now off for good. Time for the bin I think!

Speakers rattle, screen developed a fault after 2 years 8 months causing picture to be too light. Customer service not prepared to do anything outside of 1 year warranty.

In summary very disappointing, would never recommend or purchase anything from Hitachi group ever again.

Never paid so much for a television and been so disappointed.

The Hitachi C28W430N turns itself off whenever it feels like it usually as a goal is about to be scored or at the end of a murder mystery so you never know who did it.

I am completely frustrated and feel like throwing it through the window.

I have experienced almost the same problem with the Hitachi C28W430N switching itself off and then on again.
It finally switched off and came back on with a severely distorted picture.
I took a chance on a local repair centre but that has turned out to be a waste of time and money.
The picture quality is now extremely poor with tuning extremely difficult and many of the functions - such as switching aspect ratio - no longer working.
I have previously owned Hitachi TV's and videos but no mor ...

I got this Hitachi C28W430N Nicam Widescreen TV a while back with a DVD player. The sound was very quiet when watching the DVD so had to turn up really high. After about 3 yrs, the TV started to turn itself off whilst watching, then on again with a loud "thunk". Then wouldnt even turn on, just stayed on stand-by. Far to expensive to repair, less than 3 yrs before failure not good enough to impress me. Put me off Hitachi for life....

I have had this set for about 18 months and paid more than the now 'sale' price but i agree with the other reviewer, this set is excellent, good sound quality, superb picture and a set that looks very expensive.
Set up was easy and the remote is very user friendly.
I am considering upgrading to the 32" version, does anyone have any feedback on this model? It is still a 50hz model, is this OK for a 32" set?

You must buy this Hitachi C28W430N 28" Nicam TV now! I purchased mine from a Courts electrical clearance sale for £385! 28" widescreen made by a reputable firm for that price, you can't beat it. I have mine hooked up to Sky Digital and a Sony DVD player and it looks superb. This is my third Hitachi set and I am still impressed with them.
A little tip if you buy one. Make sure you hook up your Sky Digital box through the RGB supporting SCART connector, you get better picture results. Switc ...
