“Park Royal Asda opticians, Don't bother”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 145Miranda on 10/02/2024

Purchases 2 pairs of glasses from Park Royal Asda. Was told via website and by assistant in store that varifocal, thinned lenses would be included in the price, this was made out to be a big selling point. After getting home, one of the pairs was causing considerable pain to the bridge of my nose. I called the store and was told to bring them in. I did that and got told it's because the lenses are too heavy, they would need to be thinned. This apparently is not included in the price at all. I am fuming as the manageress was abrupt and unhelpful, trying to get me to spend another £100 on top of what I had already paid to fix a problem that wouldn't have happened if they hadn't been misleading in what comes as standard with their glasses. Waste of time and money. Date of experience: 09 February 2024

“Appalling service and attitude of staff”

★☆☆☆☆

written by IanMolland on 14/12/2023

For several years I have used Asda opticians, and this is because I have always had such a good service. However, one of the tiny pins must have broken in the place where the glasses are attached to the frame at the nose bridge. I took the glasses back to Asda today and asked them if they could help me. They checked on their system and said that the glasses were from a Sept 2022 prescription and that therefore the glasses were three months out of warranty. They said I would have to purchase a new pair of glasses and that I would not be able to use an NHS voucher because one had been used in Sept 2022. I said that I might as well go to another optician to buy the glasses as they were not being at all helpful. I was presented with the prescription from 2022 and I asked them for the PD measurement. They refused. The optician even came out to agree with the pathetic staff who were all three just sat around doing nothing and gossiping. Considering I have been a customer of Asda optician for some years, it is extremely petty of them to refuse to provide the measurement, especially when it is so easy to take. Within 15 minutes of leaving the store I had the measurement taken. This confirmed my opinion that the service at the Asda Optician at the Ventura retail park in Tamworth had become appalling. It’s of note that from previous visits only one member of staff was the same and that she had so well attended to me in the past. It appears to have become a very toxic environment where laziness and indifference have become a norm. In the past it was always so difficult to get booked in for tests at this Asda optician, but seeing the place absolutely deserted today speaks volumes about the staff and the management of the department. I seriously call into question the professionalism of the staff, including the optometrist (male) who was quite happily going along with attitude of the 3 female staff who were doing absolutely nothing. A good optometrist and a good manager of a department would have said ‘we’re really sorry, your glasses are just out of warranty, but because you have been a customer of us for some years, we’ll do whatever we can to help you”. I definitely won’t be returning to this store and would definitely advise anyone else in this Tamworth area to seriously consider all other options before using Asda opticians Ventura

“ASDA Ashton under Lynne opticians poor service ”

written by DavidWardle on 11/06/2023

Bought a pair of duck and cover glasses at £80 and they came with a useless lime green soft case that looked and felt like cardboard, when I asked to exchange the case the clever little assistant brought me a little pink hard case, I told him to keep it and vowed to never use them again , On another note when I had eye test earlier this year I was asked if I had any symptoms of COVID so I replied no then my eye test was done by an optician sneezing and coughing and guess what yep I caught COVID within the week bit of a coincidence, ASDA used them for years but never again

My son has beautiful copper red hair and has been severely bullied recently for it. To see your juvenile review with "little ginger assistant" really makes me angry. You bought cheap glasses you get a cheap case! No need to comment on someone's appearance..idiot!

“Rude unpleasant staff”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KewieKen on 24/11/2021

Tried to ‘phone ASDA OPTICIANS Bristol Patchway SIX-SEVEN times, ‘phone never answered, as usual, to explain I had been [SLIGHTLY] unavoidably delayed for booked Eyetest on 24/11/21 and eventually got through to Answer Machine. Explained situation and asked that I be called if Test could not be done - I was travelling 30miles+ to attend. Got there, lady behind scenes finally dragged herself to Counter…… “Yes??” I explained, she looked at screen and shook her head, “We can’t do it”. I asked why not, “We can’t do it”. I asked whether anybody had tried to contact me to cancel my [WASTED] trip and she just shrugged and said, “Well, I didn’t know you’d called….!!” And then said, “We can re-book it” I declined and she just turned and walked away I had apologised for being delayed - I got absolutely nothing by way of an apology - or even an explanation - in return I don’t think, in all my (many!) years that I’ve ever met such a surly, unpleasant and unhelpful person - EVER!! Customer Service????? 0% Humanity????? Pretty much the same….. Been with ASDA Opticians for years - won’t ever be going back to one again, ‘though Shame!!

“Broken before 2 years old”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Itdoenstmatter on 05/07/2021

I have had my glasses from ASDA Crewe since December 2019, the arm has now broken off and apparently out of guarantee. Never had glasses break before 2 years old. My choice is either buy a new pair on the old prescription or fix with sellotape. That's what you get buying cheap glasses from Asda, won't be doing that again

“Covid 19 at Asda Opticians Coventry Walsgrave store.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Mshah. on 09/12/2020

New ruling in place at Asda Coventry Walsgrave store. Due to Coronavirus you CANNOT view the frames unless you make an appointment for a sight test!! When I explained to the senior lady, this cannot possibly be correct, she decided to laugh in my face with her colleague. Walked in at Boots optician and the only change to Covid 19 is that you now put the frames to one side after trying them out; no need for a *forced unnecessary* sight test just to try out the frames. How ridiculous!?! Shop floor was empty with 2 members of staff; still it was too much just to view the frames; staff need proper re-training due to Covid and that means if a customer has a mask on and is prepared to sanitize their hands then they don't have to book for an unnecessary sight test just so they can try out the frames. I have given one star only because there is no option for *minus star* or zero star. Goodbye Asda.

“Painfully slow and misleading information in emails”

★☆☆☆☆

written by lorraineennis on 19/12/2019

Ordered lenses on 7th December in plenty of time for Christmas and now 20th and still waiting! They were apparently despatched in 13th and the email said via Royal Mail 48hr. Have emailed (no response) and then telephoned. Was told they had been despatched on 13th but the email saying via Royal Mail 48hr was ‘incorrect’. Still waiting..... let’s hope they arrive before Christmas or I will be livid. Won’t be using again and wouldn’t recommend.

Roundlees's Response to lorraineennis's Review

Written on: 15/01/2021

Same here! Ordered my lenses and received an email to say they had been dispatched via Royal Mail 48 hour. No sign of lenses over a week later and despite several emails no one has yet been bothered to respond. They were quick enough to take the money from my account though!!! Whilst I was waiting for their lenses to arrive I've used an online supplier Lenstore and received theirs no problems - actually cheaper and within 24 hours, but still waiting for Asda.

written by Leesmitho1 on 07/04/2019

Had to wait 2months for the next available weekend appointment then they called me less than an hour before the appointment to cancel it. The women who called was rude and very unhelpfull and said the next weekend appointment was in another month. Customer service is a disgrace for a big company like asda.

Went to Add a next to the Trafford centre, to pickup my glasses. I was met by a member of staff. I told that the glasses did not fell right (they need the arms adjusting) she told that's what I asked for and continue to clean the glasses while listening to another member of staff talking to a customer .then she just put them in a case and said there you go. I did not want to make a seen so I left. I will never go there again

“Incompetence and ineptitude.”

written by on 22/03/2018

After waiting 2 weeks and not hearing anything I phoned the Altrincham store to no avail. When I Eventually got through to "customer service" I was assured that the optical dept was open and staffed. I then made a round trip of 20 miles only to find a sign on the desk to the effect that the department was closed till the next day.I went back only to be told that it would "probably be another week".I then gave up and went to Specsavers.

“Ignorant bad tempered foreign optician at hyde branch”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 234Collins on 28/08/2017

I was sent a letter from asda hyde opticians saying I was due for an eye test.Rang to book an appointment,it was engaged 3 times. When I eventually got through I booked an appointment. What a nightmare it was,the person who took my details was useless and kept getting my details wrong..When I had my eyes tested,my glasses kept steaming up,it took ages. When I eventually saw the foreign young optician she was bad tempered, ignorant and spoke to me like I was an idiot.I am 52 and disabled. After spending over an hour there I was told I didn't need any glasses as my eyesight hadn't changed,I wonder was it because being disabled I don't have to pay for my glasses?I rang Specsavers when I got home and was booked in the next day.All the staff were lovely including the wonderful foreign optician. They told me that my eyesight had got a bit worse in one eye since my last appointment, which I had noticed myself and was given 2 gorgeous pairs of glasses free,1 pair for reading and 1 pair for long distance. My eyesight is miles better since wearing these lovely glasses.Top marks Specsavers

written by Valentina310 on 20/08/2017

Felt like all staff were not trained in the job they were supposed to be doing. Optician said no change in prescription yet periphial vision was different. forgot to add prisms to my prescription and then said it was because he forgot to press the button on his computer. glasses took two weeks and when fitted I could not read above 12, but the girl took them away and heated the stems ????? Felt the whole process from start to finish was mickey mouse.

“Don't enter ”

written by Holmanui365 on 17/06/2017

Went Asda optician Wolstanton in Newcastle under Lyme for an eye test and to purchase glasses with contact lenses. Staff are rude and incompetent. The main optician will not talk to you at all and disregards any questions by ignoring and then barks orders as to what you will do!other staff call you dear and have no idea on how to advise customers. I have payed for two pairs of glasses that are varifocal and I can't use them as the glasses are not wide enough and they are far too heavy. I can't read or see distance as there is not enough room on the lenses.I would like to of been advised on the weight and the size of lens I would need.Returning doesn't work either as the optician only see with appointment, the main assistant can only see with appointment also, so when you finally get to see them to correct the items your returns guarantee time has lapsed. The staff are condescending, shrug their shoulders at customers and couldn't care less. They are cut price glasses but are expensive when you can't wear them. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone and I will never return.

Was sent a letter from asda opticians in hyde stating my eye test was overdue so I rang straightaway, was told on the phone to ring back as they were busy.rang back made an appointment.went for my eye test what a nightmare.waited 30mins,as it was busy.had 3 different eye tests,i struggled on one of them,as the spex they gave me kept steaming up.waited 15 mins to see the optician, who was abrupt and ignorant.did more eye tests looking at faraway screen with leters on.she then asked me why I had done so badly in one of the tests, like I was a naughty girl.i am 55 years of age.she looked in her late 20s.after all that wasted time she informed me I couldn't have a voucher for free glases as Id said when asked my glasses were ok.i am disabled and said yes they were ok but were 4 years old and a bit worse for wear.she said well you had better come back next week and re take one of the tests before you can have your voucher.i was disgusted by her attitude.she was a foreign lady and if I had spoken to her like that I would of probably been arrested.what a complete waste of time.i didn't rebook, instead rang specsavers hyde got in the next day,had tests done all fine, lovely polite staff, got 2 pairs of glasses, one for reading, one for tv for free as I'm disabled, the glasses look absolutely stunning.dont bother with asda opticians in hyde, tameside,go to specsavers in hyde, theres no comparison.
