Good Points: Looks, weight, trigger, blueing etc etc.
Bad Points: Barrel would take a squillion years to clean if used straight after eating a fish supper but that would be silly right?
General comments: My first Air Arms rifle and I'm very impressed. I am happy with the .177 classic with the beech stock which produces more than enough power for the small quarry here in Scotland. I have lost that crazy velocity/power bug where every extra FPS running through my chrono is an achievement and a good find as far as pellets go. It is similiar to young guys trying to eek an extra 5 BHP out of their puddle jumper cars with the addition of cherry bomb exhausts or fuel additives, the manufacturers love it. I'm not knocking the hobby as its very addictive and fun, but don't just go for a gun because it produces another 1-2 ft/lb's out of the box but, get a comfortable gun with good accuracy, build quality, and above all a good reputation after being tried and tested. Bisley magnums produce around 715fps at 11.8ft/lbs on my rifle and the kill on rabbits, hares etc is quick and powerful. Pointed Air Arms pellets for crows, pigeons etc are the best in my rifle also. I would reccommend drying your rifle if caught in a shower to protect that gorgeous blueing and stock, and (responsibly) dont put it straight into the bag or case if wet but let it breathe for a bit. After I picked up a dent on the stock I used a damp tea towel and the tip of a hot iron and it came out with very good results. A very capable gun and fitted with the right silencer quiet as a mouse with slippers on. I'm Happy as a clam with it.

Would have liked more guidance from Air Arms regarding the S400 barrel clamp 'O' ring, - should it be a snug fit or not?

Air Arms S400 Carbine.22cal: I have always had spring airguns before and what a joy it is to switch over to a compressed air one, it was ordered straight from the internet so I have never even seen one before but very pleased with it.
The only thing is that is is only producing 550fps (am I right in thinking the legal limit is somewhere over 600fps depending on pellet?) (( that is only on a cheap chronograph I have though ))
I will be contacting the shop tomorrow to see what they say, I have ...

I bought my Air Arms S400k in .22 from CH Weston in Brighton, very good deal. The gun is very accurate and easy to tune 4 turns out on the transfer port gives 15 flbs between 90-140 bar=40 shots. This is using Air Arms hunter pellets weighing 16 grains, please don't do this unless you possess a fire arms certificate. I only have one gripe with the gun the barrel band could be a little snugger on the barrel, easy fix I put a little black wipping like what you do on fishing rod eyes, can't even not ...

I was placing shot after shot on top of each other with my Air Arms S400. I fitted a bipod and works really well for zeroing. A great quality rifle with everything an airgunner needs.

I have been using my Air Arms s400 Carbine now for over a year. I really look after this rifle and it has been a joy to use. It was my first PCP rifle ever, and came highly recomended from the seller. And I can see why.
I wanted a light rifle, with ultra accuracy, and having since purchase two other rifles, also PCP, I still go back to my AAS400 time after time, making it my choice for Field Target shoots, and hunting. I really can't fault this gun in any way.
There is perhaps one fault, alt ...

I wanted a rifle for hunting and ft, and after a lot of reading I found that the Air Arms S400 Carbine .22 was the gun for me. What a decision! It is perfect for me, and after zeroing my Hawke Mill-Dot 3-9 x 50IR Nite-Eye scope to 35 yards (resting), I can get every shot in a 12mm circle and at 15 yards (using the Mill-Dots). I can hit the top of our pin board pins (wife not too pleased) every time, thus having to go and buy the smallest headed pins (approx 2mm) to test myself, and I can hit 7 o ...

I have used Many air guns, my 1st being a Webley Mk3 My last was a HW77K which I thought was very accurate but a bit heavy. What a great difference this pre-charge is
It is lighter great to handle and deadly accurate. I bought it from new and sighted it in very quickly first at 40 feet then at 25 yards Hitting consistently into a 50p hole.
This gun is well built and very quick to load (why bother with multi shot).

A good hunting rifle, use air arms (field)pellets if you want accuracy and power (roundheads not pointed, there is no energy transfer to the target using pointed pellets). The allen key grub screw (under the allen key lock screw 1.5mm) can be used to set the power on a chrono, max is about 14-15 f/p with 16.4 gr pellets or set it less than 12 f/p if you don't have a fac (right).
Or get yourself a fac just for air rifles, alot of hassel, less hassel than a bullet fac. £50 for 5 years.

The Air Arms s400 .22 air rifle is perfect for hunting with it's 12ft/lbs capabilities and extremely good accuracy. If bought in carbine version, the light weight advantage means you can carry this gun about all day and not get too tired. If bought in .177 it is perfect for field target shooting. I won acompetition in my local airgun club with a s400 .177.

the power on the Air Arms 0.22 S400 air rifle is regulated via a small grub screw on the right hand side of the port. Used in conjunction with a crony, you can hit 12ft lbs with any of the pellets on the market.
***be careful, you will be using an FAC rifle if you do not use a crony**

The accuracy of the Air Arms S400 Carbine .22 rifle is such that at fifty yards with a rifle clamp the S400 was putting it's diet of Air Arms Field pellets through a a hole that could easily be covered by a one pence piece.
Note:Air Arms Field are the only pellets out of the doezens of brands that i have tried, that get any where near the 12 ft lbs mark. My chronograph showed me that they were producing a rock steady 11.7 ft lbs unlike the rest of the top brands such as Crosman premiers, accupe ...
