Volkswagen Corrado VR6 - Looking dated but still the daddy of the V6 pack, where did Audi, Alfa et al get inspired for there 3.2 v6's? the Corrado!! Sounds great, goes well, admittedly is a tad heavy on fuel unless you drive it softly, but you can't!! LUUURVE the sound of the engine, and if you buy a car like this you dont care about the fuel, you wont be a lentil eating sandal wearer who thinks of environmental issues anyway, just buy one, you'l' love it! Ive had my Volkswagen Corrado VR6 for 2 years now, ive always been a lover of this great looking car since the day I saw a sweet VR6 storm punch it up my road, I turned round and thought ive never heard anything sound so sweet and I had to get one.
I had a Renualt 19 16v with Hill power stage before, and I thought that was pokey, but it seems pretty slow now, the Corrado is something else the power delivery is so smooth all the way through.

In 1995 I debated whether to get a Corrado for too long. All Storms sold out very quickly but I managed to buy a new 'standard' VR6 in March 1996. Never regretted it - but it hasn't been cheap to maintain now that car has covered 140,000 miles. Engine still pulls really well - Mobil 1 oil always used from new. A great all-round drive despite front-end being a bit heavy. Kept car standard as this will be desirable IF one day it gets sold. That will be a sad day indeed. Well worth sticking to... (read more)

The Corrado is definitely a classic car to own, to buy a decent one that has not been thrashed or seriously messed around with is somewhat hard to do.
If you own a decent one and can afford to keep it then I think within in time they will be come a major classic.
They say that the Corrado are few and far between, I find this hard to believe, okay so they are not roaming around in droves but hey, on no less then four occasions in one day I had flashing lights and waves from other Corrado...

This is my second Volkswagen Corrado VR6. I started off with an 85 Scirocco. Absolutely loved the car. Drove it till I blew a rod. My mechanic had a 1990 Corrado G60 for sale. Test drove it and thought "Wow! this car feels even better than the Scirocco. "Took care of that car and was planning to keep it for a while. I had just replaced the heater-core ($1,700.00) when my mechanic called and told me he had a near mint 1993 VR 6 with 122,000 mi. on it.
Again, I test drove the 1993, and...

This Volkswagen Corrado VR6 is my fisrt car. I was actually regretting getting the Corrado I got because of the previouse owners horrible relationship with the car. Just bought a Volkswagen Corrado VR6 and drove my first 50 miles which has definitley confirmed that I am happy with the car. I have wanted this car since I was a teenager because of it's looks alone and was not disappointed with the performance. This car is deceptive in that it is faster than it feels which is a sure good sign.

The VW Corrado VR6 is a justifiable cult car and the best handling VW ever--including any newer A4. The answer to a question no one asked, namely: What do you get when you cross a GTI with a Jaguar E-type? The purring, roaring, cruising, handling Corrado SLC.
The Corrado is a spiritual heir to other German 4-seaters such as the 928 and MB 450 SLC with which it shares it's name. Out on the highway it's a long legged, swift, and comfortable cruiser, and around town it can carry four adults...

I'm hoping to pick up my Corrado VR6 this weekend after a very long think about what car to go for. Having owned a modified 205 1.9 I needed something that was fun to drive but also that is well built and a good cruiser (something the 205 lacked) after considering a Nissan 200 Touring, MR2 Turbo, Fiat 20v Turbo I have decided the Corrado is the best one. I feel it also looks the best despite it's age and is rather small and compact which is also a + factor. It will also hold it's value far better than any of the above mentioned. It already has an induction kit but I am planning some mild modding, probably just performance HT leads and plugs as well as a superchip. Has anyone carried out these mods? if so what kind of difference? I am considering an exhaust system and poly bushes also. I was not very happy with the exhaust on my 205 as it became tiresome and was too loud, even at low revs. I was hoping the system for the Corrado would be more muffled below 3k and then come to life. Can anyone shed any light on this? and the difference the poly bushes will make?

The Saab is overpowered, too much wheelspin.
FTO?... Yawn.

Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo?
Integra Type-R?
Alfa GTV?

All 3 are capable cars, there is no doubt that all can hold a candle to the Corrado, but none can do everything you ask of it, with such effortless stride, as the VR6. You'll never tire of a car that can match your mood so intuitively.
Written on: 09/09/2002
well, the fiat tends to fall apart, or at least have electrical problems (not to mention torque-steer on boosting turbo)..same with the alfa. and the 3-Litre V6 in the alfa sounds great, but is a bit too heavy for the chassis and compromises the handling. and all saabs torque-steer for england and tend to be a little boat-like when it comes to the twisty stuff....the integra type-R is a great car to drive, maybe een better than the Corrado, but the VW is built like a tank and it's the one I'd put my money on.
Written on: 02/01/2003
how much in canadian?
Written on: 11/01/2003
The Integra Type-R is just as quick or even quicker, has higher top speed, and it's only a 4 cylinder engine. It is the best FWD car on the market. Has better looks too than this VR6.
Written on: 19/06/2003
Quite clearly the Corrado VR6 is a far better all round car than the Type-R. Not to mention that little thing called Torque... do you enjoy driving around at 8k RPM all day. Try living with the Honda day-to-day or on a long motorway run and you'll see what I mean. Not the case with the C.
And as for the looks ??? You are of course having a laugh!
Written on: 28/07/2003
I have a VR6 Storm at the moment, having just changed from an Integra, I feel both are equally as good as each other, the Integra being 100% reliable for 40k (70-110k) very hard driven miles. The Integra being ultimately the more involving driving machine, it feels faster, and the engine is far superior- I just wish it was a six! The corrado on the other hand, feels like a lot more car for your money, and can be a car to relax in if your not in the mood for balls out driving, something you can't do in the integra.
Written on: 10/09/2003
Hello gentlemen.
Paul here from Canada. I tend to agree with the Corrado being a better all round car than the other cars mentioned. The Corrado is a solid car and is indeed built like a tank. I think it is more expensive to maintain although the total feel of the car is much better than any car in it's class. The vw german solid feel on this car is amzing. Solid as though the thing is on rails. The Integra does do it in speed but is whiny and in no way as solid on the highway as the Corrado.

I have a Saab 9-3 Viggen. I have had many cars but the Saab, for me, has proven to be the most exciting car I have owned. It has so much character which is sadly lacking in many modern bland computer-accountant killed cars. I believe that it will be one of the last characterful Saabs as it possesses the original 900 lines and Saab 1986 engine as opposed to the latest Vauxhall unit and that crud looking Subaru 9-2. That is not a Saab! As for comparisons with the integra and corrado it has performance in any gear to embarrasss both; it has the best interior and seats, is just as cool-looking as the corrado but is much more practical an everyday vehicle and is just as well made as the German. Ok there is wheelspin from rest and it might not handle as precisely as the pin sharp honda but just put your foot down in any gear and, hardly anything can match it let alone for sheer presence and antipation let alone rarity. In coupe form it is very beautiful to look at especially on the move. It has averaged about 26mpg, which, considering the performance is mighty fine. For me, a car to keep after many good but eventually boring cars including Vauxhall VX220 and BMW.

How can you rate the Corrado against the Rover 200 Coupe Turbo??
Surely this wipes the floor as the best performance front wheel drive car ever. challenge you with this!
Written on: 08/12/2003
The Rover 200 Turbo Coupe has lots of stonk but the Viggen has stonking stonk and it won't break up at 150mph-you can never tell how bad Rover build is until you test it to its limits but I do not think Rover did this during its development.Remember, the Saab produces 273 lbs foot of torque on overboost from 2500 to 4000 rpm,yes.....from and to....performance is not from 0 to whatever stupid speed, it is really about mid-range and here the Rover does very well but the Saab is even quicker.Awesome!0-100 in about 13.5 secs,40-60 in fourth about 4 secs,50-70 in 6.5.Go to the new york saab owners club web site and select photo section see how gorgeous it looks.

Guys,

The reason for buying the VR6 is clear!

Like me, the others are all clones, not one of them individual in nature.

Mention the VR6 everyone knows what you are talking about, and would like to own one; especially one that is in original condition like mine!

Big exhaust pipes, wider wheels all look cool, but don't increase the value.

Leave it alone, it's brilliant as it is, and it will keep its value much better than the rest!

My first night driving it home I was amazed at how fast I wanted to go because it felt so good. When I was pushed back in my seat from the acceleration, I almost, well You know. This is a woman's point of view. To men, it's about the mechanics of the car, to women it's all about the feeling, and the Saab Viggen feels GOOD> No comparision to the others.

Ok, I myself own a '91 G60 Corrado, and I think the VR6 Corrado is MUCH better than the Acura Intergra R-spec. It is as solid as a rock (no pun intended), it doesn't require high rpm's to operate decently, and most importantly: It's much rarer and understated. I like the fact that I don't see a Corrado every block. It makes people wonder what kind of car that is and who makes it. Finally, the Corrado doesn't depreciate as much as the Acura. 100% VW all the way!!!
