Good Points: Stanford Hall is a lovely setting for the firework championships. Great music and fantastic fireworks. A great way to spend a Summer Saturday evening.
Bad Points: Access is a bit difficult - down country lanes - pretty, but awkward, especially in the dark. Getting onto the site involved long queues in both directions, and getting out at the end of the evening was even worse. Not much food available if you didn't bring your own picnic - just the usual burgers, a chocolate fountain and a cake stall. The few fairground rides were very expensive - and empty!
General comments: What an amazing event the Firework Championships at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire is! We got there at about 5pm - lovely house as a backdrop and lots of empty grass, which was soon full of people. They came with gazebos, chairs, tables, cool boxes, candles, and even one or two chandeliers! What a very civilised way to spend a lovely Summer evening. The fireworks were all set up on the opposite side of the river. After dark the place looks lovely - lots of lights and candles. The firework competition involves four ten minute displays, by four national companies, set to music. What a fabulous display of pyrotechnics - quite the best I have ever seen. Sensational!
