“Lovely welcoming stay!”

Written on: 25/05/2012 by Rockchicken

We stayed one night at The Anchor and cant recommend it highly enough. The room was newly and very nicely decorated, the seabass I had in the restaurant was BEAUTIFUL and the manager could not have been more friendly. My partner felt suddenly unwell in the evening (nothing to do with our stay or dinner! - we have since found out he may have a slight heart condition)and they wouldnt hear of charging for his meal, even though they had every right to. Breakfast was also delicious the next... (read more)

Used to enjoy this pub but although it's been decorated the food was very poor. Crabcakes didn't taste of crab and the sauce seemed identical to one I buy from the supermarket. The 'french dressing' on the old fashioned salad was dire; acrid.
Sticky toffee pudding was not sticky.
Very slow service.

V. disappointing and pricey. (read more)

My partner and I very much enjoyed our visit to the Anchor in March 2010. I particularly enjoyed the salmon and Brill with watercress sauce. Excellent service and very welcoming, so good we went back the following night. Shame that there were not many locals about and not very busy. Clean toilets are always a good sign. (read more)

Staff were welcoming and friendly. A wide-ranging menu with the emphasis on seafood, but plenty of choice if looking for alternatives to fish. Food was freshly cooked using high quality ingredients and was very tasty. Very generous portions.

Go and see for yourself and decide if it's a place you'll go back to or recommend! I'm sure few visitors are disappointed. (read more)

We stopped going to the Anchor Inn some 2 years ago due to the seemingly expensive prices of the wine list and so missed the arrival of the current owners and only agreed to go with our son as our treat to celebrate his engagement. We were very pleasantly surprised with what we found and have now told all of the old group who used to go and help keep the place going in the winter. From this experience in the words of Arnie, 'we'll be back'! (read more)
