Good Points: I can't think of any
Bad Points: Abysmal customer service, couldn't care less attitude
General comments: When I took motor insurance online with Saga in 2008 I opted to pay the full amount as I always do but they contacted me later to inform me the payment had not gone through and persuaded me to pay in 4 instalments at no extra cost. I didn't realise at the time that this means they keep your credit card details and use them to automatically renew the policy.
The renewal premium was 29% more than the previous year's. The accompanying letter from Saga advised me to contact them if my credit card details had changed as they would not be able to renew the policy. As my card had expired and I had a new one with a different expiry date and security code (altho still same card number) , I did not think they would be able to deduct anything and just notified them by phone that I was not renewing the policy. They assured me no money would be taken.
This was unfortunately not the case and they deducted the first instalment (almost £130) from my cedit card account. Their attitude following this has been casual to say the least - they could not refund my money to the card as it had expired (strange how they could deduct the money) but still they would wait 7 days and try again I was told. When I gave them the new card details they later told me they could not refund to that card only to the old card but since it had expired they could not refund to it. Now I am waiting for a cheque refund but the accounts department has a backlog so I have to be patient.
I am a firm believer that a company can be measured by the way it deals with problems when they arise. In this respect and in my opinion, Saga did not measure up at all and I would not use them again or recommend them to others.

Saga are absolutely pathetic.
Last summer I notified Saga that someone has dented my car door but that I was not making a claim.
When I got the renewal lasr week they has increased the premium by nearly 50% due they said "to the claim". When they checked they agreed there was no claim and promised to reduce the premium.
The next renewal notice was an INCREASE so i ramg them again. This time they said they would restore my NCD. Good of them when I pay for protected NCD .
This they did but the prem ...

My father had an accident in April 2009. He is a pensioner and insured through Saga.
The accident was not his fault and the other driver admited responsibility.
Saga are apparently unable to get in touch with the other drivers insurance company even though my father has had verbal and written communication with this other insurance company. Saga are with holding £250 exess from my fathers claim because of this.

I've just had my renewal notice from Saga car insurance. I've had no problems, changed nothing, no claims, no changes. At a time when the inflation rate is negative and the RPI is 2 or 3% they want to charge me an extra 14% for exactly the same thing !!!

This service is absolute rubbish. God knows what would happen if you tried to make a claim. It took three attempts to change the reg number on my policy when I put a private plate on. After two attempts they have still not issued a new certificate to my wife who changed her car.
They doubled my prmium when I changed my car then sent out a renewal quote which was twice the quote they gave me for a new policy.
I contacted them to say that I did not want to renew with them. They contacted my home ...

Saga customer ran into the back of me and drove off, followed him but he would not stop. Took his picture on my phone, reported it to the police. They are prosecuting him for driving without due care & other things but saga will still not deal with the claim SIX MONTHS ON!!!! He says he was not in a crash and they believe him, he did claim for his own repairs though, someone ran into him in a car park the week after when the car was parked, what a coincidence!!!!!! Even though i have given them ...

Saga Insurance is specifically aimed at the over 50's but who alone knows how an older person would get through the nightmare of this company. I cannot tell you how much paperwork I have received, I have had to deal with 3 comapnies, Saga, Help Hire and Angel? And how long will it take for them to get my excess back, watch this spaceAnd I am a Saga zone member, will be shouting it loud and proud in the forum.

I suppose you get what you pay for. Low price and poor service. Complaints to SAGA ignored although they still send me quotes for insurance. A three year warranty on repairs; what a joke. Saga are not in the business of customer care that's for sure.

Saga offered us £450 less £200 excess = £250 for a comprehensively insured M registration VW Passat Estate TDI in very good condition after an Autoglass van bumped into the back because he was not looking where he was going. The Autotrader retail value of the car is £1,645.My advice: don't insure with Saga and certainly do not take out a comprehensive insurance with Saga.

It seems Saga treat their own customers well, but are appalling when it comes to third parties! I m not the only third party to comment on here that Saga appear to routinely ignore their third party phone line (I have waited twenty minutes before giving up), rude reception staff who are only interested once you threaten to contact their customer direct. Refusal to take calls from third party insurers insisting on receiving letters.I would NEVER insure with Saga after being treated appallingly ...

Gave me a quote which I paid, they then wrote and said that they had overcharged me by %-60. They repaid this and added another '£10 with apologies. How many other insurers would do that?

My car has been in with their recommended repairer SMS Cardiff for 3 weeks and still not ready, Saga don't have a procedure in place i.e. get an estimate, order parts then book vehicle in, they send an estimator in several days after your car has gone to the repairers then authorise the work several days later!! Yes I have a courtesy hire car arranged by them..but at a price...someone has too pay for this.
My local bodyshop accident repairer said he could have done the repair within 3 days

Saga Car Insurance offer good value for money for the over 50's, I got this quote originally through Confused.com but have used them in the past. I check it out every year when my insurance is due.

Recently switched to Saga just before their association with the AA. Interestingly the AA would have been my second choice but cover not quite as required. Carried out very detailed checks before switching, best rates were all close and much less than I had been paying.

I had been with Churchill for many years, without a claim, and just by chance I had a letter from Saga car insurance to apply for a quote. It was a few quid cheaper with the same cover.
