“I had one xp laptop”

★☆☆☆☆

written by caseyblindtknows on 27/06/2019

I saw the dells when win xp pent 4 came out. I thought was pretty cool. My mom got me a dell laptop with xp home sp1 on it, that was when we had wireless web invented. I used a phone line for dial up modem and thought it was awesome. The phone line was NOT high speed. I thought the web opened up ok with msn back then. The truth is this. We got a dell laptop with a slot for wi fi card when It came out. I used the usb wi fi adapter when the wireless came out in 2000 years. I was glad to get big files in a few minutes. The laptop $499 back then. It was heavy and not that great. I used the laptop often. I used the laptop often. The problems came soon after a year when I was made to use xp sp2. The laptop started to make some noises. The fan would moan some. I also felt the laptop getting warm. The laptop shut off one day when I was on a game or doing a simple task. I turned the computer on again and came up with a pretty funky error message. The screen was black and had a OVER heat message. I was like, what the hell! The laptop was ok after a while again. I tried to save my work often and not do Hard work on it. Like use a dvd movie. The computer turned off again once after all. The error was NOT there, turn it back on. I plugged the computer into a usb fan from Big lots and tried to view a video on youtube. The video clicked and would you know it, OFF! This was getting bad. I had put the laptop on the floor ans used it. I had a wood floor. The computer shut off when I was playing a maze game, no noise, just a black screen. I found a big book and put the laptop danging over it when my usb fan wore out. The laptop turn off after a while, but better than the usb fan. Then one day, NOT even turn on! What to do? Mom gave me her old desktop with win ME on it. I was so happy, the desktop worked with out any problems. Dad thought I messed up the dell, but no. My final thought is, Buy a dell desktop and avoid their laptops!

“THE WORST Customer Support EVER”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Yurii on 26/04/2016

I bought a laptop directly from Alienware with price of maximum configuration about $3700. I was satisfied with performance and general look of this laptop, but after 3 days my machine starts rebooting every 3 min. I called customer support and they solved the problem. Reboots were caused by Dell Assist app, so I just uninstalled it. Then I had issue with customer support representative. After about 1.5 months after purchase I got call from dell customer support and this guy tried to get my gift card information from me. He forced me to forward email with my personal information to him. I called customer support and explained that guy from CS tried to take my money. But nobody helped me, call was dropped each time. In total I spent about 4 hours during 2 days holding on the line with no results. Each time I explained my case, I heard works: "I'm sorry about your complain, please hold on the line, I will transfer your call to another department..." and that's it! after about 1 hr of listening to music call gets dropped. I wrote several emails, but no response yet. This is the worst customer support experience I've ever had. I like my Alienware 17 R3 laptop this is great computer with awesome performance, but I will NEVER buy Dell products because of horrible customer support. I paid about $150 per year for premium support and it is definitely does not worth that money. P.S. I have all recordings of every phone call and emails from this guy, so I'm going to file a police report regarding fraud attempt from Dell customer representative.

“THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER !!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by samoil on 03/12/2015

After being a loyal HP customer for years with 3 working HP laptops today, I decided to try a Dell product two weeks back. I honestly did not expect to spend over 20 hours on the phone with the Dell Customer Service Department, along with other unexpected financial reproductions. The order I had placed was for a new laptop which comes with complimentary “Bose SoundTrue around-ear headphones”. That equated to 2 different order numbers and 2 different shipping orders. This pair order (2 order numbers) became 4 pair orders (8 order numbers) after each pair was cancelled by the “verification – fraud department” These 2 orders (one laptop and one headset) along with 2 shipping orders were later cancelled by the Dell Verification/ Fraud Department. I called and spoke with to two people. Their only explanation was that my bank declined the charges. When asked, both said they tried calling my phone number for verification. I did not receive any calls, missed calls, or voice mail messages. As a matter of fact, I had my cell phone on me at all times. I should mention that I used 3 different credits cards throughout this process and when I called the respective financial institutions, I was informed that there were no issues with the pending transactions. Please note that these pending transactions later became charges. After the 4th order cancellation, I spoke with Rency and connected her to one of the credit card companies via 3 way phone conversation. She was able to confirm my details and later called FedEx to have them proceed with the shipping order and disregard the Dell cancellation notice. Thank you very much Rency. Now she knew almost all my private info used for this 3th credit card. But she did her job. When my laptop finally arrived and I turned it on, the first message seen was: “Hard disk – Not Installed”. As you can imagine, I called the Dell Customer Service Department again and asked to return the 2 packages (laptop and headset), being highly unsatisfied to say the least. I was transferred to the Dell Cancellation Department and connected to Jasse. He insisted that I call the Dell Technical Support line and have them fix the problem. I declined his offer and $50, next $80 offer and proceeded with the cancellation process. About Jasse – he don’t have to much time to listen to you. You need to keep him focused to not hang up before he will start on the second order number. You don’t want to lose other more than 2 hours on some phone waiting line. The laptop and headset were returned and received by Dell. However, I have to wait up to 30 days for my refund. I am also undergoing a “charge dispute” with one of the credit card that was charged by Dell. About the "charge dispute" on the second credit card for a “canceled order” by the “verification department”. After your order is shipped the credit card is charged. But because you fedex was canceled before delivery and returned to Dell it is your problem to “dispute” with your card company. Dell will tell you: Credit card not charged because your order was cancelled. Also because you are on these phone waiting lines it is better if you use multiple phones at the same time. Their system will not take the first call. When I called for return, after 20 minutes, I called the same Dell phone number from a second cell phone. After other 20 minutes I was able to speak with Asis – return department using my second cell phone. The first cell phone still in waiting line after more than 3 hours... THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER !!! In summary, I think it would be beneficial for you to know about my experience and possibly share it with your friends.

“Worst customer relations I've ever come across ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Chea on 30/03/2014

Bought and paid for a top spec computer that arrived faulty, was told 8 to 10 weeks for a replacement even though they are available 2day delivery to buy. This computer had never been out of its box but it couldn't be replaced by sales. When I complained I was telephoned by a manager who souted down the phone at me, when I said he was being rude an was going to hang up, said goodbye, hung up & was shocked when he called me back and screamed "I haven't finished with you yet" a & "don't bother calling any other number as they all com through to here in India so just just shut up and wait for your replacement like you was told to. I returned the computer for a refund & wrote to head office, the only reply I got about the whole experience was "sorry your not happy with Dell's service on this occasion. Will never buy from them again

“Quality for a good price”

★★★★☆

written by indianajim15 on 12/09/2013

I owned a Hewlitt Packard previously that cost me over £1,000 for a supposed top end model and it broke in less than 2 years with a known defect on the web (black screen of death). HP refused to take ownership. I can't speak for other people but my Dell computer I have owned for 3 years now. It still runs well. It cost me 1/4 of what the HP cost. Very pleased. Would definitely buy Dell again.

“lack of service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by klingon3 on 20/08/2013

I bought dell laptop in May 2011. indec2012 the CPU unit went, it cost me €50 for repair. jan 2013 mother board went and another €50 was spent. feb 2013 it was clear the laptop still had problems. I was told I could get no assistance. I had outlived my welcome. I wrote to Dell in N.Ireland and they have chosen to not respond. Dell used to be a good company, but with the complete disregard have become absolutely the worst computer companies. Which did a survey of computer companies and Dell came BOTTOM. I shall not recommend them to any one. thanks dell for your complete disregard to your warranty period. it was still in cover, but you chose to say GO AWAY

“Most unreliable Laptops ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bishenden on 21/03/2013

I purchased a laptop Christmas 2011 for my parents as a gift, I decided to go for a Dell laptop mainly due to price but also to give Dell a 2nd chance to redeem themselves for past experiences I have had about 10 years ago Since my parents have had this laptop, (that has had a pretty sheltered life, for a laptop) it to be honest has been terribly disappointing. I think the first major disappointment was the hard drive failure late last year where they lost all of there data. Dell did repair it and it seemed to work for about another month when they called me again and said it will not start. it is now beeping 7 times continuously which on the Dell website points at a processor failure. This means as it just out of warranty that we might as well throw it away and order a new laptop. If you want something reliable, don't choose a Dell

“It's a love-hate thing”

★★★☆☆

written by Neil.Jones on 08/03/2013

I recently purchased this notebook computer for personal use. The rest of my family are Mac users, but I can’t seem to re-wire a brain accustomed to two decades in Windows world, so I decided to go with a PC for my own use. I’ve used a number of Dell computers over the years, and decided to go with them again – not the sexiest choice, but generally a reliable one. The jury’s still out on whether that was a good decision this time around. The good: I think the 15z represents a good value for personal use. Six GB of memory and a 500 GB hard drive provide plenty of storage and the Intel i3 processor is sufficient for normal use. Hard core gamers or computation-heavy tasks may require a beefier chip, but this works fine for personal use, photo editing, and video streaming. I like the 15 inch wide format display, and the chiclet style backlit keyboard provides satisfying tactile feedback for typing. The machine comes with a minimum of bloatware. Order status information is automated and efficient. Dell's Support services (more below) are responsive and mostly effective. The bad: My online ordering experience was a mess, and ultimately I placed my order via the phone. Without getting into a lot of gory details, let me simply say that the representative I spoke to recommended not using the website to place personal computer orders. I agree. To achieve their short leadtimes, Dell necessarily pre-assembles components. As a result, computers ship with software that may require updates. The problem is, you won't know if you need an update until you experience something weird - in my case, it was the wireless network adapter that required a software driver update to perform properly. It would be nice if there were some sort of comprehensive baseline update, but that doesn't seem to be possible. Instead, users have to resolve problems in an ad-hoc fashion. Finally, I'm pretty unhappy with battery life on this computer. Even when using relatively low-power functions (web surfing, mostly), I haven't managed to squeeze 4 hours from the battery - which, by the way, is not removable by the end user. It would be nice to have 1) more competitive battery life, maybe 6 hours, or failing that 2) the option to swap batteries.

★★★★★

written by loves2moan on 09/02/2013

I've bought about 3 computers from Dell and have always been happy with the service I received and the price of the products. I would definitely recommend Dell to a friend and have had no problems with them at all.

“Guarantee? What Guarantee?”

★★☆☆☆

written by lms1990 on 15/03/2012

I purchased a Dell PC on offer for £350 3 months ago, i knew that it was going to be a basic, bottom of the range, no sparkles computer. I was very happy with it for the first 2 and a half months, it did everything i needed it for and looked 'neat'. Just After 3 months of ownership a blue screen would appear when booting up. So about 5 days after this started, i phoned Dell to ask what to do. Thats when I was made aware that my basic Guarantee doesn't cover over the phone assistance, if i wanted help over the phone i would have to pay £53. It ended up with me taking the PC to a friend who fixed it in 5 minutes. I am not happy about this and will not be buying a Dell again.

“Lies. Deceit. Incompetance. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Bernie1 on 24/08/2011

Be warned about this company. I ordered a PC from them and it arrived fitted with inferior parts. The difference in price was about £250. I got in touch and they said they would refund me £58, I obviously told them what they could do with their £58 and cancelled the deal. They then ignored all my efforts to contact them until I was forced to take legal advice, they then agreed to repay me a day before I took out the summons. I would not trust this two bit outfit with a charity box for the blind.

“Dell Outlet fails to deliver”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mperks on 13/06/2011

On Dell Outlet website it is possible to appear to purchase a refurbished machine just after someone else has done so. Dell's system then sends several emails confirming the purchase and providing ever later estimated delivery dates. In my case I only found out that I had not actually made a successful purchase when I contacted customer care. The service from customer care was not that great either.
