My experience has been a nightmare from the beginning and if you want a stress free dress buying experience don't go here! I actually bought my dress whilst we were living up North and when we moved back here I was looking for somewhere to do the alterations. I took my dress into the shop and the lady got me to try it on so she could have a look at it and pin it to where it needed to be altered. She then basically spent the next 20 minutes slating the dress basically saying what a bad design it was and how poorly made it was (obviously because it was not bought from there).
I was so gobsmacked I really could not say a thing, luckily my sister was there who was having none of it and reassured me by saying I bought the dress because I liked it and that is all that matters. The woman then back tracked and started being really nice.
She told me it would be £60 to do the alterations which was quite reasonable but I had to pay the whole lot up front. She wanted £30 to do the bridesmaid dress and said that I wouldn't need to bring that in until a few weeks before the wedding. (After my experience I didn't bother taking the bridesmaid dress back in and got someone else to do it!).
I had heard they weren't great on time keeping so I said I needed it a week before I actually did, we are getting married in Cornwall and going down the week before anyhow so I needed it as early as I could. Good job really as the week before the date I had asked for it to be completed I had not heard from them. I called them all day on the Monday and couldn't get through so assumed they were closed. Managed to finally get hold of them after calling constantly Tuesday and was told it would be ready on the Friday - good job I wasn't get married on the Saturday!.
I went in to pick it up on the Friday and initially wasn't going to try it on but then I thought I should really.
Good job I did as on inspecting the dress there was a hole in it! When I pointed this out the woman said 'well we wouldn't have done this'. It looked like it had been caught in the zip of the dress carrier it was in. I told her that obviously it wasn't there before or I would have got them to fix that too!!! They also couldn't find the lace to do it up with at the back and had to go and search for it, why they needed to take it out to take the dress up I don't know!
I told them I needed it for Tuesday as we were travelling to Cornwall to get married and she said it would be ready. I went in 10.30 Tuesday morning and picked it up and walked out glad to have my dress back.
I took it home to try it on with my sister and when she was doing it up the lace was filthy!! The dress is dirty too so I now have to get it cleaned. All I can say is don't go there it is not worth the hassle!!

I dont even want to give Juliet and Desdemona Couture 1 out of five but appears I have no choice! I found out that They would not be able to supply the dress that I had been promised. I the questioned this with them to be fobbed off and told everything would be ok. I asked them for something in writing from them and from the designer to put my mind at ease. After 6 months several phone calls and visits to the shop they didnt come up with anything. They were very rude to me and my mum. Thier atti ...- Read Guest's review (255 words and 1 comment)

I had an appointment booked to try on dresses at JD last weekend. They kept to the appointment and spent a long time with me trying on dresses. Nearly everyone in the shop ;-)
The ladies who helped me were very professional and made me feel totally relaxed and it didnt take me too long to find the dress of my dreams and i subsequently paid a £200 deposit. I feel happy and confident with the service i recieved so far and i cant wait for my dress to be delivered. Looking forward to the new r ...- Read Guest's review (101 words)

I am the bride in question. I went to the shop because at first they seemed helpful and friendly, and were the only people not to look down their noses at my husband because he's a goth. When your ordering 7 suits you'd think anyone would be happy of the business!
I went in several times to try the dress I wanted. It was way more than I wanted to spend, but it was the one. I saved for the deposit, only to be told - 'we're not dealing with that supplier anymore'. No can do. House of Brides saved ...- Read mrsgreen's review (669 words)

I agree with some of the other comments. The service is shoddy to say the least. My daughter ordered an Alfred Angelo dress, which suddenly they no longer dealt with. ( I wonder why) we ordered the dress from the USA direct and got excellent service. Unfortunately a bit of weight loss meant the dress had to be taken in. £180 later and we have loose stitching, beads falling off, and poor alignment. Couldn't find the straps either. The bustles came in at £60, and were made of poor of ...- Read Guest's review (295 words)

Went to Juliet and Desdemona Couture and ordered a wedding dress and the hire of 3 suits and shirts .
We received the suits all labelled incorrectly and one jacket the wrong size, Of the shirts one had a tear in it and one had a dirty mark. This was the night before the wedding we went back on the day of the wedding but because they did not open until 10 we eneded up having to buy shirts at a cost of £70.- Read Guest's review (81 words)

I went into the shop mid Jan to look at bridesmaid dresses ordered on the 05/02 and paid deposit and wrongly assumed that they would be ordered.
I called about a month later to see if i could get a rough date of delivery and was informed that they had only just ordered the dresses and said that they would be here a couple of weeks before the wedding, after several calls made by us and me going into the shop they finally agreed in writing assuring us that both dresses would be in the shop by the ...- Read Doh's review (189 words)

Poor customer service, due being told mislead information regarding the placing of my order for a wedding dress. Once the dress had arrived it was too small, and a rush order was made for a larger size, or so I thought.... When I finally received my 'so called' 'NEW' dress, it was dirty and damaged. I feel that the dress that i received (a week before my wedding !!!) was not new, maybe the shop copy ?? yet when ask, Juliet and Desdemona Couture denied this. The dress required dry cleaning befor ...- Read mildo's review (185 words and 1 comment)

I was supposed to have ties fitted in my dress to hold the train up for my evening do - i paid extra for this but didn't realise until it was too late that it had not been done - there was also a bit of a mix up on when I was collecting my dress and they were trying to charge me for storing it over time at £50 a week!!!!!apart from that nice good quality dress! i think this is a good bridal shop if you can be firm with them and don't let them mess you around!- Read Guest's review (119 words)

I was taken in by original friendly service which is why I placed the order. I do not believe that my order will be fulfilled in time for the wedding!
Was told they needed 6 months. Ordered 8 months out.
Overcharged by £200. They forgot to order the bridesmaid dresses, app a rush order has been put in, and they'll arrive a month before the wedding. Fitting arranged for 3 weeks out, however they doubt that the bridesmaid shoes will be available to try on with the dresses at less than ...- Read Guest's review (338 words)

With 9 weeks to go to my wedding I have cancelled my order with Juliet and Desdemona Couture due to lack of customer service and ability to supply my bridal and bridesmaids dresses and formal hire, even though the original order was placed early in 2005! Excuses after excuses were offered at every query with the order, which had been paid in full 3 months prior to the event. Clarity of procedures or current status of dresses was missing completely. There was a distinct lack of confidence inst ...- Read jacquih's review (210 words)

Juliet and Desdemona Couture in Gloucester have always been very helpful from the moment I purchased my gown to the day I picked it up. They have at all times been both professional and friendly. I would not hesitate in recommending their service to any of my friends. Finding a bridal shop that makes you feel special isn't easy but JD couture did everything possible to help my day be a great success and not let it get stressful. Thank you JD couture!- Read sebastiana's review (105 words)
