As I am new to Air rifles - I spent a few days researching the vast range that are available. However - as soon as I came across this in my Local Gunshop I new it was the one for me!! I did try a a variety of other rifles - Co2 and break barrel to make the best decision - but....... As soon as I held the Weihrauch HW90K I was in love :) The solid build quality, the weight, the awesum trigger action and the automatic safety catch were just a few reasons why I purchased this beauty. My HW90 was for sale second hand for £100(local free ads). Seemed like a bargain, but on further inspection the stock was tatty and the barrel had been cut down. A new .177 carbine(screw cut) barrel was obtained from Hull Cartridge through Duncans of Hull, along with a Weihrauch silencer.
I fitted a Hawke 3-9x40 scope (cheap off ebay!)and refinished the stock myself which now looks very good, probably due to the quality of the stock as much as my efforts.
I bought the gas ram fill hose from... (read more)

I've just purchased an HW90K, after getting rid of my umarex 850 (didn't like it - plastic and a pain to keep buying those cannisters) , which is what i can compare it to...

As has been said elsewhere the HW90K is a man's gun - not lightweight, but the sort of gun you'll keep for 20 years (I plan to!) Makes the Umarex look like a pop-gun!

I purchased this rifle to remedy my grey-squirrel problem. Although I'm still getting used to it & shooting targets there is no doubt that it will do... (read more)

I love Weirauch Air Rifles, i have owned many and not one of them was a bad rifle.

I wanted a Gas Ram power plant but i didnt want a Theoben as A) they are overpriced and B) the triggers are not a patch on the Rekord trigger unit used by Weirauch in thier models (i appreciate that the trigger unit on the HW90 was made specifically to cater for the marriage of the Theoben Gas ram and the HW90K build quality, but it is still better then the trigger unit on a theoben.

I got this gun in 25 Caliber for bigger animals, Raccons, possums, Woodchucks. So far all one or two shot kills all to the body. No lost animals could not be happier. Tried different pellets. 30 gr kodiacks 552fps, I don't like the heavy pellets but they are accurate. 24-25gr pellets 615 fps. I like the silver arrow pointed pellets for raccons, excellent penetration in the heavily built animals. All one shot kills all the raccons and very accurate, much better than my standard velocity 22... (read more)

It's been a long time since I've owned an air rifle in fact it's been about 23 years so I wouldn't call myself a sharp shooter by any means. But with my Weihrauch HW90K with 3x9x50 scopes I don't have to be. I zero my scope at about 75 ft and can hit a target roughly the same size as a 50 pence piece every time. Please don't be fooled into thinking I achieved that overnight, it has taken me a while to get used to the weight and the recoil of this rifle. I have probably shot about 1000... (read more)

Firstly I must say that I have not owned an HW90k since 1998! However, I can say that I have had some of my greatest hunting moments while looking down the barrel of this great rifle. Having bought a TX200HC one Xmas and finding it to be awkward and slow to reload in the field I decided to trade it in for the more workmanlike HW90k. At first I was a little disappointed in its apperance, not a bad reflection of the 90, more the stunning finish of the TX I had owned. However, in the field, its... (read more)

zimbo, if you look on the weirhrauch website, or at continental websites that sell air rifles (spain for example) you'll find the normal non-emasculated version of this gun should be capable of knocking out around 20 flbs in .22.
Also check the Theoben web page for so-called FAC versions of their gas-ram struts for this model. Unfortunately in UK, only the crims and knob-enders in the police force are allowed more than 12flbs.

And a happy new year to you, too!
I tried a Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40, but that was no success, so I will change to another scope. I was not able to zero it in. I also used a dampa mount, but it made a dent and scratches on the scope. The mount also moves on the gun. Do you use any kind of scope stop? To this gun I will recommend the H&N Field Target&Trophy .25 cal. Do you hunt with this airgun?

Harindarjit's Response to Harindarjit's Review

Written on: 09/01/2006

Hello Chris,
Like you i use a Dampa mount with my scope on my HW90. I solved the scope creep by inserting two studs into the base of the mount. The first stud was a threaded screw which I inserted into the hole beneath the rear U- shaped cup of the mount. It took me half a day to get a right serew and then to file the screw head down to precisely the correct fit as it has to sit snugly into the rearmost shallow hole at the rear of the gun. My rifle has three such holes. After a few more hours of patient work I removed the plate that holds the resting cups of the mount and drilled a hole right over where the middle hole is on the rifle. Through this i inserted another flat bottomed screw. the problem was that the head of this screw was sticking outat the top and I could not put the two plates of the mount flush back. I solved this problem by using a larger drill bit to make a bed for the head of the screw. Now the two bottom parts of the screws sit in the holes of the rifle. the rearmost and the centre holes. No more scope creep and works like a dream.
If you need to get in touch with me I could e-mail a photo if the mount to you.

It has taken me 3 months to get used to the 'feel' and heavy weight (11lb) of the Weihrauch HW90K rifle and the gas ram action's recoil, I had only previously used spring powered rifles (BSA Meteor and Webley Stingray) the recoil is very different and feels like a 'straight line' kick back into your shoulder. I purchased the Weihrauch HW90K second hand and found that it was heavier than I expected, the main reason I chose this rifle was because of the Theoben gas ram system which I find very useful in the field as unlike a spring rifle you can leave the weapon cocked without power loss for a long time.
I found the stock was very attractive and it looks much more like walnut than beech due to its dark colour and deep texture. As I shouldered the rifle I found that it seemed to loose a lot of... (read more)

I've found the Weihrauch HW90K air rifle to be very accurate at the standard 11.8 lb/ft and very able to make kills upto around 35 yards. At power levels much above this however recoil becomes a little harsh and even from sand bags groups become a larger. This kind of defeats the object of trying to make it effective at longer ranges. In standerd trim as a stand alone rifle however, it's top value for money. (read more)

Having been Shooting a '90' all Season, I know what this guy means. Weihrauch and Theoben have got it bang on with this 'Springer'. Upto the Legal Limit on power, but well below the normal recoill for a 'Springer'. Very low lock-time makes this a very accurate Gun. Dont get tempted to fit a carrying strap, after a couple of trips, you wont even notice the 11.5lbs weight with a scope. If you're wondering what to replace your old springer with, try a '90'.

Dear reader, The best Pellet I have found is the 'Crossmen Accupell'. I cant find anything better. Its a little dirty on the fingers, but thats why God gave us soap and water. As for the pump. First get access to a 'chrony' either through your Club or Gunshop. The World and its dog knows about the HW90s tuning potential, so don't be tempted to go over the current U.K. limit. As to an outlet, I got mine direct from 'Theoben' on the internet, this was before the recent 'Brocock ban' but I beleive they still sell the H.E. Pump for about £67.00. The HW90 is without doubt the best 'Off-Ticket' Air Rifle I have ever used, but unless we stick to the current power limit, it won't be long before the Law is changed, and we will end up like the Brocock boys, confined to the pages of history. Happy shooting and stay safe...

Sorry guys but I really had high expectations of this .22 rifle after all I read. The recoil is harsh and at 21fpe the rifle is very difficult to shoot accurately. I downtuned it to 13fpe and accuracy improved dramatically. If you buy this rifle the Theoben HE pump is mandatory in order to experiment with power levels I really wanted a high power springer in .22 but it seems that the Air Arms Pro Elite is the one to go for. I think guido's review of the H.W.90 was a bit harsh. I think that anyone who buy's a Weihrauch gun is getting good value for money.
If you do not want to put up with excessive recoil or are not able to cope with the high power levels that this gun can deliver you should buy a pneumatic recoilless gun. However i have owned a 90 for many years and have shot with accuracy and no problems at 24ftlbs with a good scope of 4-12x46.
I will agree that the stock could be of a higher standard but having stripped mine and oil finished it i have no further complaints.
The trigger guard on my gun is fine and i fail to see why Guido thinks his was ugly. I find mine to be just right and the safety bar is perfect.
I have no open sight facility on my gun so can't comment on this matter, overall i have to say that the 90 is as good as my other H.W.guns(80.95.)if not better.
Final comment, you can't beat weihrauch for quality and reliability
Is the recoil that bad? Noise? At 21flb the other guy said it was terrible, and you have no problems 24flb! It seems to me you reckon the rifle can handle it. But the other guy say not. Do think that the internal parts are under more stress?

Someone else sold a pup. There are so many fake HW90 & 90Ks on the market now, buyers beware. They are such a popular item, the crooks have jumped on the band wagon. A lot of fools want an off ticket air-rifle, and be able to convert it to a section 1 firearm, so the fakers have come up with a wide range of look-a-likes. Some have just a cheap spring inside, others with a poor quality 'gas ram', the one thing they all have in common, is a dodgy seller. Stick to your local Gun Shop, where quality is assured, and dont be tempted to pump it up beyound the legal 12 ft/lbs limit. Everyone knows the guns potential, and the Police will not think twice about taking action with people caught with an Illegal Rifle.

Sound advice from a sensible shooter. All to often Kids beleive they're outside the law when it comes to Air Guns. These are not toys, and if we are not careful, we will go the way of Northern Ireland and all air guns will require a F.A.C. That will spell the end for a lot of young guns, dont let the fools spoil our sport, report anyone who you see behaving inappropriately with an Air Gun.

Can I just say that if you are buying a second-hand Weihrauch look for the "Hull Cartridge" sign on the side of the barrel. If it's absent then DO NOT BUY! Weihrauch refues to carry out maintenance/repairs on non-listed models and these will be fakes.

If Guido had problems witk his HW90 I sure do believe that. I bought a HW90 second hand and the gun was bought 10 months ago from a Weihrauch dealer. I tried to zero it at 25 yards with and without a scope and the best I could do was 5 inches c-t-c!! It is a .25 cal and the pressure is 26 bar in the gas ram. I use the H&N match pellets. I was planning to go huntig for pigeons but I can forget about that with such a bad accuracy. I hope that I now can give it back to the shop and pay the difference so that I can get a HW100 .22 cal instead. I have read so many positive reviews about this gun, but I cannot be the only one having that problem with this gun!

I love this gun but I need to increase its power. Where can I get a pump/hose/pressure gauge for this wonderful piece of engineering?

Since purchasing the Weihrauch HW90K rifle 12 months ago i have been very impressed with the rifles all-round capabilities. Its accuracy is outstanding, i have been able to consistently hit 30mm discs at 40m using .22 accupell. The rifle also fires very smoothly with nearly no recoil, these 2 qualities are down 2 its H.E Theoben gas ram. Out on the field the rifle performs outstandinlgy and with its excellent accuracy always results in a clean kill.
The 90k is a great all-round rifle, and... (read more)

I bought a second hand HW 90K a few weeks back and was instantly impressed by it's solid build quality and high quality of finish to all it's parts. It's accuracy is exceptional for a break barrel recoiling rifle and I am able to shoot on equal terms alongside shooters using rifles costing 4 times as much at the local gun club. The trigger unit is both atractive and classy to look at, as well as being the smoothest I have used (and I have fired some pretty expensive air weapons). The safety... (read more)

I've traded in my Falcon pcp rifle for this gun and have just shot the best pellet groups ever (and ive been shooting for as long as I can remember) the groups were even better than the pre charged gun. The build quality is excellent, I reckon Weihrauch must have bought a load of old world war two panzer tanks and taken the tracks off because its built like a panzer and has the firepower like one , oh and the weight as well. This gun is not for the weak or small bodied as its very heavy and... (read more)

I have shot for many years and have shot many airguns from Air Arms to Webley and i've never shot such a remarkable gun as this Weihrauch HW90K. with my Nikko Stirling 4-12x50 scope it can acheive 15mm groups at 35yards. (read more)

I have just bought this Weihrauch HW90K airgun secondhand. It was in bad cosmetic shape. I have since sorted the cosmetics and the gun looks fine.
I have fitted a theoben damper mount and a simmons WTC scope.
I have not been hunting with this gun as yet but find it very impressive on the targets.
I have just put 10 pellets inside a 10mm disc @ 25 yards (75feet) holding the gun but resting my arms on a bench.
I have tried a few pellets in this gun and found AirArms Hunters .22 to be the... (read more)

The Weihrauch HW90K air rifle is an all round excellent rifle. It has great power and impressive accuracy over long ranges! Whilst hunting it produces great power which puts a stop to almost everything i've shot which include....rabbits, crows, rooks, maggies, pigeons and rats. Silent shots due the H.E Gas Ram system.....therefore no need for a silencer!! (read more)
