Good Points: Friendly staff. Lovely cosy atmosphere. Excellent service. Wonderful food. Varied menu. Made to feel special. Not expensive.
Bad Points: None.
General comments: We booked a Saturday night meal at the Kings Arms pub restaurant in Hawkshead, Cumbria. We weren't disappointed! I found the table we were initially asked to sit at too draughty, but we were quickly re-seated at another table. I had scallops followed by duck. Both were cooked to perfection - the scallops lightly seared and bursting with flavour, and the duck was very tender in a fruity sauce. My husband had black pudding followed by venison. The black pudding was a hearty starter, and judging by the rate he polished off the venison, there were no complaints there either! We had the cheese and biscuits to finish, which was pleasant overall, with the exception of a very hard cheese which seemed slightly out of place.
The bill, with a bottle of house red, came to no more than £25 a head - very reasonable!
I would urge anyone staying near Hawkshead or Ambleside to pay this charming pub a visit.
