I was served chicken instead of duck then they tried to tell me it was because the way it had been cooked , but it tasted and looked like chicken ,I didn't make a fuss just said i would get the piece and get analysed , she said she would talk to the landlord , they didn't charge but it just shows they will get away with it if they can

I am definitely impressed by the two times I've been here. The meals were good and served hot, delicious and fresh. Also, the bar has some very nice bourbon selection which is a big plus. My whole family had a very nice evening and we are definitely coming back soon.

I find this place almost too popular - staff and lady 'in charge' seem under pressure, unsmiling, unwelcoming on arrival. The food was fine ( we've been here before as a 'Sunday'group, but were shocked this time to be charged £6.50! for a large glass of wine ( higher than most London prices ). The reason? We were told that it was a good bottle of wine! and that the person should have ordered a bottle. Perhaps this information could be more obviously displayed, so that customers know before the wine is poured.

Rose and Crown -East Lambrook.
I went to order a second drinks for a girlfriend but was completely ignored by the lady bar tender, who seemed to be writing up accounts and kept her back to me. After 5 minutes I asked if she was serving. She snapped back that she was serving another customer. I told her that I didn't even know she knew I was standing there. She snapped again, as though I should somehow have known this (despite not being down the end of the bar with the customer) and that it was somehow obvious she knew I was there, despite keeping her back to me! She carried on writing for a further 5 minutes, so I gave up and went back to my chair to chat. We thought Christ what an attitude for a bar tender!
Normal (reasonable and polite) bar staff would turn and say something like 'I'll be with you in a minute'.
Recommendation: bring your own drinks?

Never had a bad meal, staff always attentive and courteous. I am sure that those who give a poor review are more a reflection of themselves than a comment on the pub - there are such things as obnoxious customers!
The Rose and Crown is always spotless, the food freshly cooked, can be busy at times, but that is because of the quality of the place.
Thoroughly recommended, particularly good if you have visitors to take out.
The senior lunches are particularly good and as always everything is freshly cooked to order, so cooking time is always a consideration.

The food is lovely but the attitude of the two women working behind the bar was rather poor. We felt as though we were inconveniencing them to order a drink, pay the bill etc. even though the pub was very quiet the day we were there. Plus the condition of the high chairs for babies was appalling - very dirty and germ ridden straps. I have to say that I will not visit again and would not recommend others to do so - shame because the food is good.

Never had a bad meal here. The staff are always attentive. A 'Real Ale' enthusiasts pub and the other drinks are pretty damn good too! It's always our childrens first choice out for a meal because of the variety of choice and quality of food. Alison and Graham know their stuff and the bar staff are always friendly and attentive. It can get very busy .... popularity is a good measure of success in this game .... which means that you may have to wait on occasion. If that's the case, then just order another drink! A good old fashioned country pub, serving super food.

We visit often and have never *ever* been disappointed. Full range of Palmers Ales available all (or most) of the time, food has always been outstanding (we tend to go at lunchtime and eat bar food rather than a full meal). Atmosphere is always calm, plenty of outside table in a beautiful garden....what more could you ask for?! We cannot recommend this pub highly enough.
If you are visiting on a Sunday you would be well advised to book ahead as it rightly *very* popular for dinner.

You can always be assured of a warm and friendly welcome. All the staff are extremely polite and the food is, in my opinion, exceptional value for money. Nothing it too much trouble for the hosts Alison and Graham, testament to this ~ I have held several most successful and enjoyable special occasion dinners in the restaurant. Care is taken to ensure all guests are catered for, particularly if disabled. I cannot rate the Rose and Crown highly enough ~ go there and experience it for yourself.

Rose & Crown, East Lambrook, is a beautiful, clean place. Lovely large gardens with a lot of outside eating tables (picnic tables seating 6 comfortably)Great for the good weather and/or meeting friends just for drinks.. Lots of families there, enjoying themselves. The wines were very good (we had rose, white and red house wines).The vegetables are served separately (ours were served in dishes for 2 people/so clever...no handing round!) and the tastes were so good. The beef, often disappointing in other places, was tender.Fabulous Yorkshire Puddings.All the extras, like mustard,horseradish etc., arrived in no time at all.Lovely choice of puds.I had cheese, a wonderful plate of tasty cheese. There was one "hot" one Chilli in there, I think..So delicious, the rest (About 5 cuts) were lovely. Ripe camambert, tasty cheddar, good quality smoked cheese...and so on....I don't like grapes with my cheese and they happily substituted tomatoes.....no problems at all. plenty of parking Lovely atmosphere. Intimate feeling, despite being a large pub.Space used well. Staff very pleasant and knowledgable.There were 11 of us for Sunday Lunch on March 29.It was very very busy.We had already decided (on advice) to have 2 courses ( we were all out for dinner that evening).We chose our roasts and in no time at all, they were served to our table.No matter what you want, you can have it. If you don't want much gravy, for instance, say so, because the meat and Yorkshire Pud and (delicious!!) roast potatoes are served on the plate.

My children always want to visit this pub for a meal out. If entertaining guests, then this is ALWAYS the first choice and / or default. Never had a bad meal. Never had a bad pint. Never had a bad comment from the many that have visited with us. The food may sometimes take a little while to come from the kitchen, but if you are cooking from fresh, it is what I expect. If you want fast food, go to McDonalds.

We would certainly go back. It was a lovely building and atmosphere and we will recommend. Especially to my disabled friends who find it hard to find places that are genuinely disabled friendly. We went on April 4 2008. Recommended by word of mouth. Party of four: two starters, 4 main courses, three sweets and drinks : total £100 approx. Food was excellent.. Everything was cooked to perfection and hot despite it being VERY busy. There was a slight delay with food but this was explained when we arrived.

We cannot imagine where the previous reviewer got the impression about the cook's ability we have eaten here twice since November 2007 and each time the food including the fish has been faultless.
The toilets are some of the very best, and can be used with confidence. We have visited other places with high food ratings whose toilets are (to put it gracefully) are a disgrace.

Went once and ordered a steak (med) came out cremated! Returned last week for lunch and there were around 4/5 tables free so ordered a drink at the bar and then went to order some food. The landlady appeared and abruptly turned turned to the bar person and announced that they will not be honouring any more meals! did not even acknowledge us at all! We left we hadnt even touched our drinks. Why was not the tables marked with reserves if they could not cope? Anyway what do I know? I only run a pub in the next village!!

Riftvalley review says
<br/>"I am sure that those who give a poor review are more a reflection of themselves than a comment on the pub - there are such things as obnoxious customers!"
<br/>
<br/>What on earth is this cheeky comment based on?
<br/>
<br/>Riftvalley sounds as though they could be one of the staff, who customers complain about!
