Good Points: The White Lion Inn/Hotel is based in Ambleside, close to the heart of the Lake District. Whether wishing to enjoy the fells on foot or to explore the National Park in the car, Ambleside, where the White Lion is situation, is an excellent base. The good (extremely plentiful) food and well kept "Real Ales" are a bonus!
Bad Points: None since the national "smoking in public places" ban!!
General comments: A warm welcome is guaranteed. We have stayed in the hotel on several occasions, in two different en suite rooms, both of which had extremely comfortable beds with firm mattresses - a good night's sleep is essential if you are planning a 12-15 mile hike the following day! The rooms were spacious and certainly provided all that we required for a "relaxed" holiday. Breakfasts were stupendous and needed at least three or four hours on the fells to walk them off!!
We can thoroughly recommend the White Lion with its friendly and helpful staff, excellent food and relaxed air, all contributing to ensure we enjoy our time away from the routine humdrum of office life.
We've already booked our next break at the White Lion - that should say it all!!

I go to Ambleside at least twice a year to chill out with my little lady.If part of this did not include a visit (all afternoon normally) to the White Lion,my stay would not be complete.A slow afternoon drink session followed by one of the absolutely massive dinners is a must. Then taking an even slower wobble back to the b&b. Absolutely marvellous! Seriously I know going to the Lakes is a very enjoyable experience, Hawkshead bear shop, a trip on the lake etc, but being able to relax in a pub/ho ...
