    Good Points: Reliable, safe, heavy duty


    Bad Points: None


    General comments: I've not found a backup generator o this size that can produce like the 4000xl does. I've powered 3 refrigerators, a oil burning heating system, 20amp water pump 3/4 hp, and 4 rooms o lites. It's a great work horse. I went 12 hours between fill ups.

    My Generac 4000xl has been pretty reliable machine for the size. Good economical engine and electrical parts are also good. But No fuel filter (arg!) and tank extremely difficult to clean. Air filter is marginal such that slightest restriction will run machine rich and not develop full power. Should keep spare spark plug and filter on hand, because filter is special and hard to find in stores.

    The Generac 4000xl needs to run at 5 min. at least ounce a month. I liked the price and the weight, the quietness. I have been through two carbs.
