Good Points: Standard of cuisine. Beyond excellent
Bad Points: Temperature
General comments: On arrival at Holm House the maitre D took our coats which it later transpired I wish he hadn't. The overall temperature was cool. We were shown through to the bar area and I saw a great expanse of bar which took most of the room, and would have suited one of the many pubs down Cardiff Bay. We were told in the past by Pitkin of Egerton Grey that "this is not a drinking establishment. If you are out for a drink, go to a pub." The lounge area (heated by one electric fan heater) was not conducive to relaxing. The menu for the evening meal was adequate and the hors douvre were moorish. The dining room was well decorated and the tables were really up to standard. The meal which consisted of pate/souffle, plum sorbet and then turkey followed by xmas pudding /cheese selection(coupled with very poor bara brith) could not have been faulted.. We took excellent coffee and mince pies in the bar area but it really wasn't comfortable to linger. Our overall experience of Holm House was very favourable but I would suggest having a smaller bar, better casual seating and some wood burning stoves. Would we return ? definitely; but when it is warmer.

We have just left again after a birthday weekend in Gwentlands. The food it has to be said was excellent & this time we both had treatments at the very swish spa. My wife was very impressed & tells me it was the best sh ...- Read Guest's review (195 words)

Holm House in Penarth is really great for a weekend away from it all. Superb accomodation, with great food, service and attention to detail could not have been bettered. We will go again when we visit Wales.- Read Roger Stanton's review (40 words)
