Good Points: This is really a resort for the beginner (ideal) or the intermediate. I have been here about 5x, its not a big resort but if you want a good family place with decent food that's not over busy you couldn't do better. I think the 'Where to Ski' and SnowBoard' guide gets it's spot on when they say a 'purpose built French resort where they get it right'.

Just the best place on the planet (well at least of all the resorts I have ever been to) to learn to ski.

Bad Points: Not for the expert. Whilst I am probably in this category, I also just enjoy skiing with family and friends and there are plenty of slopes to make even a timid skier happy. If my family and friends are happy, so am I.

Whilst there's some good off-piste (which typically stays fresh for ages because there are so few people tracking it), if you want off piste or a lot of blacks go elsewhere.

General comments: There are plenty of good Bistro restaurants near the Hotel du Bourg in Valmorel. Nothing fantastic but lots of good eating. A slight downside is the restaurants all sell quite similar fare. Apres-ski is fine until dinner time, but this is a family place, not Val d'Isere.

Hotel du Bourg is in a good location and is a decent, if modest hotel. There are plenty of apartments too - quite a few of which are 'ski in and ski out'.
