“Repeatedly Let Down by Barratts”

As soon as you give them the 5 star rating there customer service ends, you will be fobbed off with any issues. Barratt staff walking over your private property, shouting and swearing early hours of the morning, delivery wagons constantly blocking the street, machinery using your drive. Barratt's do like to brag about their 5 star rating, alot. To be perfectly honest, I don't see what there is, or was to brag about. I mean surely all house builders should be making suitable quality homes. After all for most, it's the biggest purchase you'll probably ever make in your life. “Freezing Cold”

The sales team were great, and when we moved in the building manager couldn't do enough for us. But by winter it was clear the heating was inadequate. First they fiddled with some radiators, then changed some. It was clear that as soon as the weather got cold, so did the house; it just wouldn't warm up. “Never deal with this company in any case”

We are young couple looking for house. Everythink looks not bad till point when we need to pay deposit and get confirmation that we can get mortgage for that amount. We had our mortgage advisor and she get confirmation with no problem but it was big surprize when we get to barrat office. Laidy (barrat consultant) refuses to accept any documentation from our morgage advisor and we was told that we can work just with these advisors wich they recomend for us. In the beginning stages we felt a bit mislead but it would appear it was a miscommunication rather than purposely misinforming us. “Don't try and part exchange with Barratt as they will...”

Don't try and part exchange with Barratt as they will tell you they will offer you market value for your current property then take 2 weeks for their surveyors to fudge something, which contradicts the home reports of other properties on the street. £30000 less than market value and totally destroyed a young family's dreams. “Quality builders my backside ”

Was surprised to find that a lot of things that one would think would make common sense to anyone that lived in a home (doesn't everyone?) has not been considered. ie no aerial or power installed in the loft. no back boards above the windows to attach curtain rails, aerial and electrical sockets situated in awkward places. We bought our home 10 years ago from Barratt. During the first year we thought it was normal to have small problems every week. After 12 months they continued. We have had a section of the roof fall off, countless leaks destroying walls ceilings and carpets. The heating system is treated to a new expansion tank every year as it is more economical than replacing the whole system. You should be able to enjoy your new home not endure it. Moving into a Barratt Homes property was the worst thing I have ever done. Issues with drainage, Cheap Carpet that frays every time you run your hoover over it, my boiler had a Carbon Monoxide leak due to being installed incorrectly, issues with our electrics and the biggest joke is that they painted straight onto the plasterboard, they did not even plaster the walls, talk about cutting back to improve profits. Please update your review in a few years time, when your paint is flaking, facia's falling off, front door peeling, both toilets have broken, need replacing and blocked due to builders rubble being put down the drain, the boilers packed up, cheep cooker blew up, garden water logged, paid a zillion parking tickets as they do not provide adequate parking spaces and now employ the services of clamping companies. (Family no longer visit due to lack of parking)

I am sorry that you seem to be having problems - but this is my second home from Barretts, last one I lived in for 15 years from new and had no problems with that home either. Obviously you have to do 'wear and tear' decorating, as you do in all houses - but honestly, everything was as it should have been.

“Inadequate effluent pump and drainage solution ”

Since moving into the house, there has been an issue with the sewage pump and the drainage in the development. The issue was passed on to the management company that did their best to resolve...6 years later we still periodically experience foul smell that can last for weeks...The pump has to be upgraded (not designed properly the first time around?, drains surveyed (no apparent issue)...and we still suffer with substandard environment. Where do you start? Health and Safety - big issue here, as we are living in a part constructed road, at the end of it! Ourselves and two occupiers were moved into houses that were obviously hurriedly completed in order to meet the 30 June deadline. We have had no refuse collection since that date as the local council NDDC, refuse to collect it due to health and safety issues. Be warned when buying a barratts home. The reason they knock them up so quickly is because they're lazy and do a half assed job! I've lived in the house for 4 months and I've had to have cupboards fixed internal doors fixed both my doors adjusted and fixed. I have a bin which pulls out from the cupboard they've left me with the instructions and no special fittings for that bin to fit! We have lived in our 2 bed flat for a year , we originally loved it !! Until that is Baratts laid amtica (hard flooring) in the flat above us ... We contacted all people neccasary had a noise test which came back untitled to us and had the year before a date on it !!!! Shocking customer service, houses are built to a very very low standard. We have been in our home 2 years - a snag list upon moving in that was 4 pages of A4 paper, and since we can add to the list a flood, 4 complaints where the NHBC were involved, poor standard finish, and customer service that is pushed into second place only by Vodafone - and if you have ever had to deal with Vodafone, you realise how poor a recommendation this is.
