“Disappointment after disappointment.....”

Written on: 20/05/2013 by DJ_Fonte

We bought a Barratt Homes apartment nearly 3 years ago and it has been problem after problem since then. Within two months of moving in the roof caved in after heavy rain in the W/C, hallway and bedroom 2. This was dealt with fairly quickly but the work was rushed and very poor. We also had some personal items damaged during this time. When I picked this up with Barratts they suggested that I claim on my contents insurance. I told them this would put my premium up and it was a faulty roof... (read more)

“What a Joke”

Written on: 10/05/2013 by Ramsurn

My wife fell in love with one of their house. Just perfect in every detail. The house was on sale for £175.000 . Our house was worth £165 .000 for a quick sale. Although Barrats says that they offer 100 percent. What a joke. I don't know what their valuer valued our house for as he would not tell us, but they would only give us £130.000 for ours. I had our house revalued again by the same estate agent whom we bought it from and they insisted that we could get £169 .500 if we r not in a... (read more)

“Barratt breach the Consumer Code for Homebuilders”

Written on: 04/05/2013 by RyanThomas2013 (1 review written)

Barratt quoted a service charge estimate of £1200 to £1300 in their marketing material when they knew the ACTUAL cost would be £2300.79. I took them to the Consumer Code for Homebuilders for an adjudication and got compensation. You can read the full adjudication at Honeybadgerblog.co.uk. Please get in touch if you need help with a similar issue. (read more)

Written on: 01/05/2013

Really wish I had done my research before buying! I persuaded my family to move for a fresh start, bigger home and a house I could move into without rushing to decorate or sort. It was supposed to be a happy time instead it's been 21 months of hell! The minor snags I cold live with and at first not a problem but once the last house on the estate was sold they were gone and we were forgotten. I've had roof tiles come off and damage my car but more seriously the edging of the roof is coming... (read more)

“nightmare”

Written on: 19/04/2013

I wouldnt suggest this company to anyone let alone a first time buyer like myself and my other half. This company has been a nightmare all the way through the experience pushing back the completion date further and further on a new build home. They gave us 2 working days notice untill the date we believed to be moving into the house that they could no longer meet the dates promised to us. I wouldnt give this a star but it was required to give at least one. (read more)

“Never buy a barrats home.”

Written on: 07/01/2013

I am appalled disgusted and literally on the verge of a breakdown because of this awful, lieing manipulating company. We moved in just over a year ago after a very nice lady sold us the property. Oh she was all smiles and everything was written down price wise, only for the prices to soon change, items we asked for weren't given. We moved in never the less, after that the problems just came and came, after a week of being in the full bedroom wall was covered in mould, it was reported and... (read more)

Myself and my partner went to buy our first ever house, thought best thing to do would go with a large UK known company such as Barrats. They turned out to be lying manipulative time wasting cretins. When we first went to go and see the property the team were amazing, we left, explaining we had some thinking to do as this is easily one of the biggest decisions of our lives. We moved into a new Barratts home(as secure tenants) in London in October 2011. Since that date the residents have had an ongoing battle trying to ask Barratts to show reason an apply to the Local Authority to increase the disabled parking facilities. At each turn they have declined our request. They allow able bodied contractors to park all over the estate yet, watch as we struggle daily. One year on and I finally give up. I'm moving out! I bought a flat in 1981. It has no sound proofing. So when people have sex they have to put on loud music what sort of a quality of life is this? Every sound from neighbours is suffered. I believe that I was overcharged for this substandard flat. I believe that I will never get a decent price for this garbage when I try to sell it. I used to work for Barratt's a while back, and we did use to get a lot of compliants about this. If the rest of the tenants in the block feel the same, you can get a committee togther and you can sack Mainstay and hire your own maintenance company. You will probably find that you can get a cheaper company to look after things for you, and do a much better job. I even know of a couple of developments, where a resident has taken over the daily jobs and just have a company for building insurnace and car park repair and maintenance.

You are the residence, and you have the right to choose who the maintenance company is.

If this is a development that is still currently being developed, then it is always a right mess up, between Barratts and the maintenance company about who is responsible for what. If Barratt's are still building on the site, then 99 times out of 100 then you will find that Barratts are responsible, and do not let them tell you otherwise.

My main complaint about Barrett is that the houses they build all look the same, they are either too small or if you want a decent size house, too expensive. Many of the brand new homes I have looked at are in my opinion of a boring design, way too small (it's like living in a box) and also way too close together, to me it looks like you would be living on an animal market with houses so closely crammed together. Looking for anything which I would consider a family size home is hard, but... (read more)
