“Perfect Location!!”

Written on: 20/01/2015 by molthomson (1 review written)

Since living in my new home on the estate of Saxon Rise i couldn't of had a better life. The locations chosen by Barrett’s are always thought out well so they could benefit as many different people as they can. They normally try to locate around a school, a village where there are local shops, transport and a quick drive to a train station, airport or other necessities. They fit my everyday needs and they have also encouraged me to try new things and spend more time with my kids… Read Full Review

“OUTRAGEOUS!”

Written on: 08/01/2015 by Jacobp316 (1 review written)

Do not buy a new property with Barratt Homes they are a sly money grabbing comapny with no morals !! They act nice and professionally until they sell all the houses in the street. They then employ a private parking ticket agency and put up parking restrictions months later on the streets which state 'no parking or waiting' 24 hours a day and issue parking tickets that are £100 per ticket. That's fine but when they only allocate one space per house its ridiculous. Barratt Homes are money… Read Full Review

“Cardboard ceilings.”

Written on: 20/12/2014 by Somerset45 (1 review written)

We bought a 4 bedroom barrett home in the houndwood development, street, somerset in April 2014. The property was the most expensive on the development. It has 2 en- suite bathrooms which we thought were lovely. My brother has one of the bedrooms which benefits from a en- suite. His bedroom is above the lounge. OMG, if he uses the toilet, when we are sat in the lounge, we can hear everything!!!!! And I mean EVERTHING, His toilet activities are generated very very clearly to the lounge!!!! My… Read Full Review

Paulious's Response to Somerset45's Review

Written on: 05/01/2015

I completely agree with your review. I have myself purchased a Barratt 'Barbie' home a year ago and the general construction is terrible. Again we aren't talking about a small amount of money either, certainly more than a properly built Victorian town house. All internal walls were built using the Japanese paper technique and party walls are so thin that if I turn my open back headphones up to the maximum setting my neighbours can hear it! Absolute joke. Worst decision I've made in a decade. AVOID

I have the exact same problem in my Barratt apartment. Actually as I type this I can hear my neighbour above me using his toilet. The only place in the apartment that I can't hear him when he's in the toilet is the lounge. It drives me crazy!

“Happy Customer - Lyveden Fields, Corby”

Written on: 24/11/2014 by Saltwicksister (1 review written)

We reserved our new Barratt Home back in May. I do agree that it is slightly un-nerving how (all) new house builders pressure you to have a) already SSTC in order to reserve and then b) exchange contracts within a month or two - given that at that time the house you are buying is still barely more than a concrete slab. However, we did exchange contracts (did not pay anything towards extras until after contracts were exchanged) and then we waited and watched (like hawks) while our home was… Read Full Review

“Barratts !!!!”

Written on: 21/11/2014 by zendar (1 review written)

My experience of Barratts has been a rollercoaster and one I would not wish to go through again. Inexperienced new home buyer beware. The house I initially wanted which was a one bedroomed end house, apparently was going to be a show home(I didn't buy that, but was told ohh yes look its pencilled in here on the plan, still didn't buy it), The girl in the office insisted this was the case. Not long after I moved into my terraced the end house was occupied. The floors were in a terrible state… Read Full Review

“Ashford at BlueBell Meadow excellent purchase”

Written on: 08/11/2014

In November 2-13 I opted to purchase a 2 Bed Ashford house on the Bluebell Meadows development in Newport, Isle of Wight. My circumstances required me to move in to the house within four weeks. From the outset, this was an excellent experience and nothing was too much trouble for the two sales advisers. It was the same with the site manager, all were keen to provide a product of the highest quality. Between them, they held keys and provided access to varous service provides in between legal… Read Full Review

Be warned - we have just come out of our 5yr Barratt home warranty and we have developed a fault with our - unvented cylinder - evidently it should have been serviced every year and Barratt's are simply claiming that I should have known that otherwise I would invalidate my warranty !! - with no instruction manual for the hot water cylinder how was I supposed to know !! - Barratt's are claiming I should have know and had a manual - ie my warning - get a manual for everything don't assume being… Read Full Review

“Poor Building Quality”

Written on: 31/10/2014 by 1948Brewer (1 review written)

We recently moved in to the new build flat by Barratt London is total nightmare. The snagging list is never ended. Asymmetrical window skirting, wrong build in wardrobe being put in by Barratt contractor, Dents everywhere on the window frame, scratch window glasses, broken doors, uneven wall finishing paint. The workmanship is so rough that below most of the flats we stayed before. Just after two weeks I really want to sell the flat. When we bought a new build, was expecting to have a new life… Read Full Review

“you can't have the house after all....”

Written on: 28/10/2014 by EricaOlson (1 review written)

Put a £500 deposit down on a four bed terrace back in June 2014 on the Windsor Park development in Buckingham. I had already sold my own house but straight away they were saying you've got four weeks to do this....four weeks to do that. called me in to make any "choices" I might like, in other words extras, ..another £599.25 spent but this was just a deposit. The chain was delayed by the local authority... nothing any one could do.....and last Friday 24th October they pulled the plug on me… Read Full Review

“happy with the flat, but some v dodgy behaviour from...”

Written on: 23/10/2014 by livesinaBarrattbox (1 review written)

Ok I have waited 15 months since moving in before writing this review but the time has now come! Bought a 2 bed flat in a new development in South East London from Barratts in August 2013. The best news is that it is a great flat in a great location and in terms of value for money the property has put on at least 20% in 15 months even by the lender's conservative valuation methods. The buying process is full of traps for the unwary. Barratts sales lady was manipulative throughout including… Read Full Review

“poor heating system, bad management contract”

Written on: 09/10/2014

We purchased our Barratt home in summer 2007, by winter wethe patio doors needed realignment due to draughts, the living room was also cold, we called Barratts plumbing contractor who claimed it was a radiator balance issue. 6 times we had this checked and still no improvement. I suggested it was blocked and that was the end of it, we were told it was just a balance issue and how to adjust it. We redecorated fully and decided on an upright radiator. Fitting should have just been swap 1 for 1… Read Full Review

“Damp and mould in a new build house”

Written on: 18/09/2014 by Rashi007 (1 review written)

We just moved in a new built house. 2 months in the house the whole house had damping and mould in every single room. It ruined our new furniture, shoes, wardrobes. When we claimed to barratts initially they weren't responding and when they started interacting they couldn't sort the issue. They gave us dates when people were coming to look at the house and no one actually turned up on those days. There after sale service is shocking and I would never recommend anyone to buy house through them… Read Full Review

“New build Social House at Marywell, Aberdeenshire”

Written on: 04/09/2014

On entry snagging check revealed numerous items worst being chips and scratches on all the double glazed windows and the retiling of the bathroom without permission after the wrong grout colour was used. The work was very poorly done using a rough concrete type mix on the walls variations of thickness, scratches, chips off corners, grey coloured but with white silicon down the corners and top and bottom. Prior to moving were emailled options to have grout refilled, whole job redone or live… Read Full Review

“Unsafe Gas Installation - Customer Care Dept. Not...”

Written on: 28/08/2014 by BNB1 (3 reviews written)

We bought a new house just over 3 years ago. A 5 year guarantee was part of the deal. A number of defects have arisen but some items have been more serious than others. The main item has been an unsafe gas fire. It has recently been condemned and has had to be disconnected by a service engineer who was servicing our central heating system. The fire had always given off an obnoxious smell. We thought it was leaking fumes. A representative visited the house and tried to deny any problem… Read Full Review

“Some initial issues, but all came good in the end!”

Written on: 28/08/2014

We bought our home in December 2013 and moved in in January. Have to say we had a fair few snagging issues (to be expected - a home is handmade after all) and were promised certain things by sales staff that didn't end up materialising. They also lost our keys twice so had the locks changed twice and some snags took a couple of re-visits to put right. A fair bit of messing about initially. However the senior staff were very helpful in hearing out our complaints, paid us visits personally from… Read Full Review

“We wish we read this before buying!”

Written on: 26/08/2014

Myself and my partner have just recently moved in to our new house in Elworth Gardens. There is so much snagging and every time we get them to fix it, they damage something else! We currently have a ripped carpet they caused when lifting it to find a leak, they said they would fix that as well but that was about 3 months ago!!!! Decorating is poor and don't even get us started with the sound proofing! We were told they use new systems etc for it but we live in a semi- detached and it is like we… Read Full Review

Written on: 20/08/2014

Barrats Homes has been a huge disappointment. I have been dealing with the Northampton branch and I am not impressed at all. I moved into a new build in July 2012 which is just about two years and have always had one issue or the other with the heating and water. At the first service of our boiler, we found out that the installation was not properly done and had to call to have that resolved. So we had been living in the house with a boiler installation which was faulty and could have been… Read Full Review

Written on: 19/08/2014 by Tottenham5 (1 review written)

3 weeks after moving in the ridge tiles blew off the roof onto cars.Since then we have spent our time sorting out various problems due to poor standards of workmanship and the use of poor standard of materials.Never a dull moment when you have a Barretts house, forever sourcing taps, handles, parts, workman etc.and even more exciting when locked in the bedroom at 5am unable to open door as the door handle has fallen off, thankfully our neighbours are early risers and threw tools up to us to… Read Full Review
