This site is a disgrace and should be closed down. It should not be allowed to rent out caravans to the public and not to people with kids. The caravan we rented was dangerous. The light fell on my son, you could get your fingers behind the light switch where a hole had been punched in the wall. The electricity tripped and you had to have a mud bath before entering the caravan. I feel sorry for the owners of the caravans that have no choice but to stay there. Good thing was at least... We bought a static caravan at Steeple Bay, big mistake!, There were fights in the clubhouse, drug dealers, police raids on site and caravans set on fire. We chose to ignore these problems as we had bought the van and tried to make the most of it as we would lose a lot of money . Unfortunately however after two years, my wife became very ill and we were unable to use it, so we decided to sell the van. This is when you realise what sharks these people are, they make used car dealers seem... (read more)

We stayed in the water edge lodge, views and sun sets were brilliant. Wild life in abundance water birds all types . We spent hours watching seals,,from the comfort of our veranda they seemed to be same spot on the far bank everyday. Ask as they are very easy to miss . A very relaxed break .When tide comes in the seals leave to feed on the flat fish in Blackwater Estuary, Tip - then is the time to visit the Heybridge Basin - when tides in, - and sit and watch boats coming and... I very regrettably bought a caravan here and barely used it because i found the way the site is run to be appalling........staff promise to phone back but don't bother.........on a regular basis there was cars with loud exhausts flying about in the early hours.........some guy flying about on a quad bike with 2 kids hanging on to it.........rules are few and far between......some can have wooden decking/walkways down, others are told they can't..........no gazebos/rotating washing lines... Tiny touring pitch for electric hook up. Huge field for non electric. Why don't they supply more electric pitches on the field? Two inadequate showers - both seen better days. Totally unsuitable for children. Toilet facilities need badly updating - cleanliness poor. Washing up facilities not bad if you can get the door open - you need to kick it open and shut. Looks like all they are interested in selling their statics and getting the rent. Glad only stayed overnight. (read more)

On arrival at steeple bay caravan park we couldnt believe how remote this site was.On entry to our silver caravan half of the seating was broken(repaired half wat through our stay)The same night we went to the onsite clubhouse where we were greated by riot vans and bouncers,A caravan had been set alight and reports of drug abuse,JUST WHAT YOU WANT when you save up all year and have two children who from then on were petrified!!!! Worst site i have ever stayed on and park holidays could not... (read more)

Having read reviews online I was seriously worried about what we would find when we arrived and actually contemplated cancelling the holiday. I'm really glad I didn't The driveway is very long but that does create a sense of isolation and calm away from the rest of the world. The first impression of the park - clean but not brand new. Admittedly the caravans aren't all brand new and some look a little worse for wear but generally on the whole it looks like a typical caravan park. The... (read more)

Drain where we were to get our fresh drinking water from was bloked for two days and when they did come to clear it thick black stuff came out of drain, ( nice )nothing signposted, so noone knows where waste water etc has to go, no lights outside toilets to see in the dark and...

Good luck with even finding it first in the middle of no where and down an ever ending road with more bumps than I have ever experianced!! Its not a holiday park its a residential park full of rough people who r not welcoming!! The bit of water they have is a creek! We left early as it was so bad! Just don't waste your time on the place, wish we hadn't!!! U have been warned!!! Also thw water... (read more)

we recently stayed at steeple bay,we had our two small children with us, the park is a must for kids but the park had very little for them what was there looked like it was there for years very disapointing , the childrens entertainment wasnt much, this needs improving, its not clean in the toilets were dirty, no loo roll, the shop is not big enough to cater for all the people, its a race to buy what you need.found our stay not very nice,i would say the site is scruffy all them tourers a turn... we arrived at steeple bay on 30th of august we lasted 20 minutes it was so bad it was scruffy, dirty no beach that you could walk to, we felt cut off from everywhere, no indoor pool just a cold outdoor pool, the people were not welcomeing at all, there was the tiniest arcade ever, i could honestly say we all felt depressed within 15 minutes. this resulted to us haveing to be transferred to another park which was an hour and half away, and forced me to down grade my caravan from a gold plus... We had a 'Sun' newspaper holiday at Steeple Bay holiday Park over Easter this year.
The park was lovely and a lot nicer than some of the reviews said.
The road up to it was a bit scary and more signs would have been good. The shop could do with a wider choice and no milk which is a staple really.
Checking in was good.
The 'club' was nice enough. Could have done with some information in the checking-in-pack about what entertainment was happening in the club. My daughter who's 1...

We have had a static van on steeple for 5 years now, when we first visited freinds on the site it was a much nicer cleaner site, also much buisier. I think all the changing of staff and management does not help this site.
My main complaints would be the office staff and shop staff (same thing lol)
are bloody miserable, surely they could smile once in a while they are getting paid.what is their job description are they office workers or shop assistants because they are no good at either. The...

I have had a static caravan on this site for the last 7 years, and i can honestly say in all that time this site has never ever inproved,no matter what people say its like a gypsy site full of essex loudmouths and wannabe boy gangsters and im charged £2500 for the privledge, the staff are rude esp the office girls, they talk to you with attitude.
The bar staff are just as bad,the shop on site now doubles up as a reception, cutting down on what they sell, and i can say make sure you take all you...

Steeple Bay Holiday Park was horrid!
It was dirty and very badly maintained.
All hard standing pitches were broken up, all electric hook up points were dilapidated and the one I used was unsafe (trip switches on all 4 points failed to work)
The pool was out of action apparently because the life guard had quit (Funny when they shut it during the week, just to re-open it for the weekend)
The club house is a dump with scattered rubbish, food and grime everywhere. (Which was left for days...

good points; lovely place. beautiful views, relaxing,
bad points: looks like a dump, rubbish every where, holes in roads, neglected, uncared for by staff.
Please feel for us owners we spend a lot of money time and effort looking after our plots,we mow our grass, we buy the plants,so please bare that in mind when you visit our park and respect the owners plots and caravans because it cost us a lot of money each year.
Why we stay you ask, because most of us have been coming here since we were...

Excellent entertainment, friendly staff, the pool exceeded all expectations. having read the reviews i was pleasantly surprised.
Had a great time. everyone we met staff and other holiday makers were very friendly.
ive been to a few caravan parks and feel that steeple bay has had a lot of reviews which are not justified.
We will definitely return.

Steeple Bay is the most relaxing place to be. The staff are helpful and polite. The surroundings are second to none. Yes, the shop is definitely not as good as it should be but on the whole there are a lot worse places to be. It is much much improved and they seem to be doing their best. If you have any sort of request or require help the staff will do their best to help you. (read more)

This park is in a wonderful location, but I think it needs someone with vision. The shop could be a little gold mine, but it seems to me apathy is the order of the day rather than raise to the challenge. I do hope the park owners listen to the people who own caravans here, otherwise it would seem more people will leave and few new owners buying? That would be a shame, so action, action action, NOW in my opinion. (read more)

We have just returned from a 5 day break at this very clean and looked after park. I read the reviews before I went and was filled with dread about going. I even tried to arrange for an alternative park!
On our arrival we were greeted by a friendly chap who gave us all the info on the park. Our caravan was a new one and was clean and tidy (the only thing missing was a toaster). The beach is not really one as such it is more like a man-made sandpit at the edge of the Blackwater. We went out...

I disagree with this review because... the company are keeping the pool at 28 degrees which is far too cold for babies and the elderly.
Written on: 09/07/2008
chrisyuk-- when did you go and did you actually get into the pool? we went on 16th June and as I have said the pool was very warm my grand daughter is only 4yrs old and tiny but she did not think it was cold and at one time there was a baby of about 18 months in it as well and she was very happy. Maybe the temperature fluctuates but it was very warm the week we went.

Barbara - I own a static here and check the pool temp regularly, every couple of days. The manager told me himself that the pool will remain at 28. Which is too cold for young children and the elderly, 30 + is what is recommended. So basically this place is excluding what it is here for - family's.

I booked this long weekend then read the reviews about Steeple Bay and was going to cancel the holiday after reading them. However, we had no complaints, the grass was cut, the pool was clean and open, the park was good and the caravan was excellent. We saw staff going round each day picking up litter. The club was clean and offered good entertainment but felt that the Loopy Club should be earlier in the evening. Overall, our £80 long weekend break was very good and we had no... (read more)

Steeple bay is a very unique park off the beaten track, owners have been here for over 30 year and there children are they new owners of today. but the management never seem to take this on board and treat us, you don't like it leave. But why should we, as you can see management come and go, we like the area we pay good money, so we all deserve a little bit more respect, it makes me very sad to see all the holiday caravan plots are high priority and as an owner feeling neglected.

yes i totally agree its about time that they started listening to the people that actually fund the park year in year out....the owners.
the staff issues are so correct they seem to think there on holiday when they should be working.
things only get done when the fleet hire complain, when an owner complains or asked that something be done they are pratronised and told dont like it leave....why the hell should we be treated this way.
