Never, never again would I use this method of taking cash abroad.
I was talked into it at the airport and put 900 euros on it. 700 to pay my first hotel bill and 200 to pay for my last hotel. I paid the 700 euros at the main hotel of my stay. Then guess what I tried to draw out the 200 to pay for 1 nights accommodation and was told that I had used my quota for the day. I was worried but waited until the day after and tried another ATM the screen said that I had no funds on my card. This totaly spoilt my holiday I knew there was money on the card. On my returne to the UK we phoned the free helpline to be told that they had taken 15% of the total of the hotel bill and that I would get it back next week. I think this is disgraceful and will not recommend these cards to anyone. No one goes on holiday to have this happen to them totaly ruined.

I purchased a Travelex Cash Passport for use in Kos, Greece in June 2009.
Was accepted EVERYWHERE which was amazing considering that the resort I stayed in was very small and basic.

I have heard that they have recently taken off the ATM fees whereas Thomas Cook have not.

I have been told that if I want to withdraw the money at their UK shops there is also no charge.

My Travelex Cash passport was turned down more often than it's accepted. And even when turned down the amount is still deducted from the balance. They will remedy this in ten days. So they have interest-free use of my money for ten days. I called the emergency care number and was on hold for almost thirty minutes before some one came on the line long enough to hang up on me.

I bought 2 travelex cards for a recent trip to the UK (GBP) & Europe (EUR). I found the card frustrating. Most merchants in the UK & Europe were suspicious of the card as it does not have a chip. Some were reluctant to use it because it did not have a chip and they don't swipe the cards any more. Most of the time we had to pay cash. Which meant getting cash out at ATMs'. The ATM's charged anything up to EUR4.00 to withdraw. I ended up withdrawing as much as I could from the card and paying cash. ...

I bought a card from Travelex for my trip to Europe two weeks ago. He said it is the safest thing. It worked fine until I rented a scooter in Rome. The vendor put a 400 euro deposit on the card and the next day he tore up the deposit paper when we returned the scooter but the "cash passport" did not release my 400 Euro until today. The problem is I am now back in the States. They said every deposit takes 7 working days to be removed from the card even though the vendor has cleared it. So, ...

I liked the combination of easy to use (accepted everywhere I went in Europe)and the security of no link to my bank account. Also reassuring to know that if the card was lost or stolen my money was safe and that a new card would be quickly provided.
One of your reviewers said they found the reloading process slow. I've reloaded the card by phone on three occasions now (at a very good rate) with no problem and found the staff friendly, knowledgable and efficient!
Travelex Cash Passport is recommen ...

I bought a Travelex Cash Passport, in Australian dollars, on advice of a friend to travel to Bali. I was not advised by Travelex that there was a $3.75 charge EVERY time you used an ATM. In addition, the rate of exchange I got was about 12% worse than I could have got elsewhere. Then when I returned to Oz , they slugged me another $10.00 to close the account and get my money back. I certainly would NOT recommend it - it is expensive and I could have saved a great deal of money using my own debit ...

I got a Travelex euro cash passport for a trip to the republic of Ireland as i was told i could use it without any charge in shops restaurants etc but you would be charged at an atm. The card has no chip in it and the republic of ireland has recently gone chip and pin and so it is actually illegal to swipe but a few really big chains will still do it . Also it would not work in one bank's atm - no chip? i did find one bank and i withdrew most of it. so i would have done better to have brought ca ...

The travelex cash passport idea is good in principal but there are better and cheaper options. Best to have just for an emergency and not depend on it.There are better alternatives. These days Visa has a sort of debit card you can buy over the counter and which does work in the same way as visa card.

The cost from using travelex cash passport - basically you are stuffed by transaction charges on ATM's - oh you say - it's only $3.00 to draw money out. Then you find the ATM has a limit of $200 - that means you have commission and the ATM charge just to get $200. The conditions state it is refundable by the business you bought it from - wrong - they wouldn't transfer the money balance back unless I use an ATM and pay over 8% commission. Alternately they would Fax the close off form and you w ...

I have found the Cash Passport utterly frustrating and would never use it again. I tried to use the telephone upload from debit card - which has a limit of 1500ukl per 60 days - but each time I tried to use it I spent atleast an hour on the phone - with friendly staff but ones who didnt know the policy clearly and didnt understand their system - so even when I had not reached my limit each time i had to offer multiple debit cards to try to get the money through. Then when I had reached my limit ...

I regularly travel to various countries and found this Travelex Cash Passport service useless.
you can't see your balance on an ATM, that's if you can find and ATM that will let you use it.

When you do use it, the ATM will charge you £1.50 to £2.50 for the privilege and then there's the commission rate????

When you get back to the UK you can't get the remainder back from the card at the Travelex counters and the ATMs want denominations of £10.

I certainly WILL NOT USE AGA ...

I bought the travelex cash passport from birmingham airport. Safe way of carrying currency but dispite asking about charges i was miss informed by the travelex representive who assured us that the card was free to use.
The card charges are in fact excessive unless you are a regular traveler it's not worth the charges and hidden fees. ( make sure you read all the small print)

I was sold the card originally on the strength of getting cash back (euros) in shops abroad. This was not the case, and I was constrained to withdraw money using a cash machine. Going Places deflect complaints to Travelex (though as selling agents, they should respond). All complaints or comments have met so far with a blank response.

I find my Nationwide debit card far more useful - it does not incur charges from them, nor (if I choose the equivalent to building societies abroad) from for ...

I use my Travelex Cash Passport card to trade the worlds financial stock markets and so far it has not let me down. I would have to say that generally it has been able to meet most of my expectations, however I am almost certain that there is a better card available through the same company. In todays' world standards the card should be considered and applied for by all aristocrats, politicians, bureaucrats and business people.
