Good Points: The whole set was one stool, one artist and one guitar. I have never seen an entire audience so captivated by the performance of an artist. I came to this with few expectations as I have only had limited exposure to her recorded material (Sonny Came Home and Holiday Songs & Lullabies). I was blown away both at the simplicity of the performance but also at what a fantastic live performer she was. Great songs, great guitar, great voice. This goes in my top 10!

Bad Points: None

General comments: This was the first time I've been at the Shepherds Bush Empire where I haven't been annoyed by at the noise from the bar. The bar (at the rear of the stalls) was closed at Shawn Colvin's request so the gig would not have been attractive to those who simply buy tickets as a night out and spend the whole performance talking as they have no interest in the artist.

The performance itself was amazing with song after song from an artist confident and comfortable with her material at the height of her performing powers. Simple stripped down set for a simple but very powerful performance. Song after song performed with the same guitar, re tuned as necessary between songs.

Support was provided by Jack Savoretti, who was also fabulous - again the audience were silent to hear him play - almost unheard of for a support act in my experience. He is bohemian troubadour with a guitar, a husky voice and some tales to tell. - we will hear more from this guy I'm sure
