I must be one of the lucky ones I've had my fridge freezer about 6 years now and never had to defrost it once, admittedly the drawers are starting to crack but with the amount of use mine gets its not really surprising. Could probably do with a bigger fridge freezer but its adequate for a family of 4 (read more)

I bought the Hotpoint FFA97 fridge/freezer roughly 6 years ago, but in the first 6 months of buying, the salad draws cracked. It makes banging and crashing noises which are so loud that in the middle of the night I have often thought someone was breaking into the house. After 12 months all the freezer draws had started to crack and are now not useable. I looked into replacing them but it was really expensive. The freezer needs defrosting every 6 months, the drawers are week and crack easily. It got 1 star because it looks good, but unfortunately does not do as I would expect. By all means buy this frost free unit if you want frozen veg and salad, you want to defrost it at least twice a year and if you want ot buy new drawers. i have had this freezer for a few years bought it for size,all my drawers are cracked and broken they are dangerous i have caught my fingers a few times. The light cover doesnt fit and never has . The things on the top shelf of the fridge keep freezing and the meat drawer often freezes the meat, salad and veg drawers cracked, my freezer keeps leaking water behind the bottom drawer and when you open door you get water on kitchen floor , do not buy . After choosing this stylish appliance I soon realised that looks are very decieving!The light cover dropped off almost immediately + every drawer is so flimsey that they have all cracked,or split....have caught my fingers a few times now + made them bleed.......just priced up 4 new freezer drawers £91....u gotta be joking.. my veg + salad always freeze up ,meaning lots of wasted food.....i really hope it blows up ,or dies a slow,painful death soon.....will never buy any hotpoint appliances... Same as the other reviews, light flicks on and off, draws in freezer broke straigh away and the the top draw smashed through the wall of the freezer so got stuck, fridge gets warm n freezer is thick of ice all the time so I am always having to defrost....I would not recommend!!! (read more)

Had it for about 3 years, same as everyone else, top fridge is NOT cold but freezer fine. Called to get a quote from Hotpoint to get it fixed quoted £180.00. Tried the de-frost overnihgt hairdryer etc...but no good. Will spend that money on a new fridge instead of getting this fixed. AWFUL PRODUCT and BRAND....STAY CLEAR!! (read more)

had my unit for 5yrs until i started to hear the fan making a chopping noise , thought it would sort it self out as it did but then the fridge section was getting warm , so i removed the freezer cover panel to have a look for myself, checked fan ok ,etc so i just defrosted the pipes unit etc with a hairdryer, restarted the fridge stuck my own thermometer inside the fridge section to test temp, but it only got to 5 degree no as it says on the display of 2 degree set at.fingers cross lol hope... i think we should put all these complaints on youtube and boycott hotpoint.im sure if the thought of losing customers and much profit we might get something done.i have only had mine for just over a year and al the banging and cracking is still there,the shelfs are all broken,the light cover came of and broke within 6 months.now i have nowhere to put the milk as the clips on the back of the door have broken off.Why should they get away with this poor and shoddy goods.will never buy hotpoint... WOW! I couldn't believe these reviews as I thought I must have already written one about this product before. Thin plastic, disturbingly loud cracking noises, every single draw in both the fridge and freezer cracked within months, the plastic light cover dropped off within a week as it didn't fit when it arrived, replaced with new one still didn't fit, fridge light wouldn't work and never has since. The FFA97 Hotpoint Fridge Freezer is dreadful. The interior plastic is so thin it wears out and breaks over a short period of time when moving the storage bins. All of the storage bins have cracked and are now unusable. A fault in the first year was fixed by a service engineer, who informed me that this fridge freezer was an improvement on the previous version, I can't see how. HOTPOINT FRIDGE FREEZER FFA97 This is the worst fridge freezer I have ever owned. Every drawer in the freezer is broken as they are so flimsy, and now sit on top of each other !! Light cover in the fridge broke after only a couple of months. I have had the same problem, had the appliance for about four years and then about a month ago the freezer started to frost up, a couple of days ago the fridge just stopped working - the display says 2 but it isn't cold. The engineer said at first that defrosting should fix the problem but has now condemned it as electrically unsafe as the compresser (?) is shorting out. Lovely looking product with a great capacity but none of that is any good if it doesn't work. Shame :-( (read more)

Had problem, where fridge was too warm and freezer was too cold. Turns out that there is a pipe which leads from the freezer compartment to the fridge, and this got blocked with ice. Defrosting fixed the issue. Generally this is a poor quality fridge. Light broke after a few months, freezer shelves cracked and the fan makes too much noise. It also cracks and bangs loudly.
Buy something else

This is less than 3 years old and have had continuous problems with the frost free element with ice building up inside. Recently started going erratic, too warm in fridge then too warm in freezer and have had to call engineer out. Two weeks since I called Service department and today engineer was out to fix it with re-gassing it. It is not repairable so I will have to buy a new one. I will never buy Hotpoint again. Absolute rubbish - wish i had never bought it, the freezer drawers all either broke by themselves mysteriously in the night with a bang or they would fall out and break on the floor whenever the door was opened. Also had this Freezer for 53.5 years, extended guarantee for 2 years with fear that (popping and banging) was about to end its life. 6 months out of extended guarantee, Fridge compartment has stopped working. Defrosted Freezer, but suspect fan in Freezer fas failed. May try a replacement, but could be good money wasted on an already disappointing hotpoint product.
Hopefully I will send this page link of complaints to hotpoint and make the point obvious to them!

Had FFA97 Hotpoint for about 3-4 yrs and like all the other in this range the fridge is getting warm then the freezer starts to get warm tried defrosting it as recomended and it works for a day then goes off again. Very dissapointed with this fridge freezer,not even 2 years old and costing nearly £400 it broke down without any warning. It is a good looking fridge freezer on the outside but the interior fittings are very poor.Lightbulb cover kept falling off had to selotape it to keep it on.Interior drawers flimsy and cracked very easy.Would not buy a hotpoint product ever again. This is not the first time we had problems with a Fridge freezer from the Hotpoint FFA range. The first one had problems with the freezer section not being cold enough after about 3 and a bit years, the most recent one, the FFA97 now has a problem with the fridge section being warm after just two year. I would certainly not buy a Hotpoint item again or recommend it to anyone (read more)

Unfortunately the bad points of this Hotpoint FFA97 far outweigh the good points. The banging and cracking noises are incredible and I cannot believe that these could not have been designed out with some more research and development.
The plastic freezer trays are much too flimsy and the corners on mine have broken off despite very carefull use. Hotpoint told me all sorts of nonsense about them being "cosmetic" items therefore not covered under the five year parts warranty. This is despite...
