“Avoid this food it may contain black mould”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DACHSHUNDmini on 05/02/2020

A couple of weeks ago I gave my mini dachshund as a treat half of nature diet senior lite (not his normal diet) as he has dry food but got given 6 samples of food at the Belgravia dog show in the summer. He really enjoyed all other 4 flavours however the senior lite had some strange black bits on it i didn't think anything of it. My dog eat half of what i served him and a few hours later found him having seizures which lasted 4 hours! and had to be rushed to the vets and stayed in hospital for 2.5 days. I opened the carton from all sides and the food had clearly gone bad despite it being within date stored as per manufacturers instructions and not having any damage on the box. I have learnt since that mould in particular black mould can make a dog very ill and can cause seizures! it was £1500 worth of vets bills and very nearly killed my dog! luckily he is fine. Reading up on Nature Diet i think they have had problems with their packaging food before. ND are placing the blame on me but i wouldn't knowingly feed my dog something that was going to kill him! so avoid this food tetra pack packaging is not brilliant. Disappointed of the quality and extremely dissatisfied with ND attitude to my complaint. AVOID THIS FOOD batch 1788 best before date : 05/20

“Dog up all night with tummy ache ”

My dog has recently had surgery go remove a tumour from his small intestine. I had been giving him boiled chicken and rice and chappie chicken and rice and he'd been doing really well but he got bored so I chose to try something different Chicken and rice Natures Diet as it states on the box easily digestible, however he has been contracting his stomach all night and been very restless so I read up on it and now wish I has done so beforehand. If everyone is complaining why Dont N D do something about it and listetk the customers feedback.

“Wonderful food when you can get into it!!!!”

My six Pugs have been fed on nature diet for years I have produced two international champions on it and buy a box of 18 a week,so no problems with the food. My problem is the packaging its frustrating when the tray will just not open, the last box of lamb not one would open, why is this? Any plans to improve? Having to use a knife or scissors is a pain.

“Just as good as ever.”

Decided to put my Westie back on Nature Diet after a 6 month break (nothing to do with ND) I have read a lot of negative reviews about it being a new recipe, sloppy etc. Westie has been back on it for a week now, I see no difference at all in the quality and consistency, I can still chop it into chunks for him, he has had no upset stomach & his'poo' is nice and firm. I have no regrets about going back to Nature Diet and recommend it without hesitation.

I have completely the opposite problem, since my last delivery of the New Improved Nature diet I've had to ditch a whole case of chicken because the cases were either cracked or blown. Swell pets replaced them and ever since ive had my dog on two days Nature Diet followed by diarrhoea, apricot coloured poos and bloated tummy, so back on chicken /rice/scrambled egg. This has been going on for months now and I'm left with over 36 packs of food I can't feed to my pet. I also feel rather embarrassed as I intro my friend to this product and one of her two dogs is having the same problem.. I am going to write this up on the Nature Diet FB page as I now know of 6 people who are all having gastro problems with their dogs who never had a problem before.

“Commercial suicide by Nature Diet”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SonicLab on 03/01/2015

For the past 9 1/2 years, Nature Diet has been our Labrador's main food. However, suddenly the quality plummeted with mould now a consistent problem. We have had to switch to Nature's Harvest and Wainrights suddenly introduce suddenly rather than gradually as advised due to Nature Diet's failure. How to ruin a product and company and one easy step: we won't be returning.

“Gas and loose poo's”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tullyacd on 02/01/2015

I have been feeding my dog nature diet rabbit and turkey for 5 years, fit ,healthy and never gassy. Since the recent change he is very gassy and has very loose poo's. I have tried adding more fibre but this had not helped.

“upset tummies”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Lopeztd167 on 30/12/2014

I was recommended nature diet by my dog behaviourist when I took on a rescue terrier, I also have two other terriers. This was 2 years ago all the dogs thrived on the food with no upset tummies and firm pooh. Since the food has changed not only are a lot of the packs blown or mouldy. My parson terrier has had very bad tummy problems he has been sick and had the runs and refuses his food the other two also have had the runs. I tried changing to the sensitive he will be ok for a few days and then it starts again. There is something very wrong with the change of production.

“Not what it was”

★★★☆☆

written by on 28/12/2014

We've fed our two terriers on Naturediet 'wet' food for several years with no problems until recently. There is no doubt tge formula changed in the move from one manufacturing plant to another. Until early autumn the food was very solid in texture: now it's much softer in texture because it's much wetter. We all know that water is cheap and it seems very clear that there is more included than previously. The real problem is that the 6-yr old dog has started stealing food, something he has never done before. We can only assume he's hungrier. Rather than double his rations (I.e. double the cost) we are changing to a higher protein food. Naturediet has 10% protein now but I am sure it used to be nearer 20% although I have no proof if this...

“The change to Nature Diet”

★☆☆☆☆

written by WendyPat on 14/12/2014

I have two dogs and one of them has a very sensitive digestive system. I tried various foods and then discovered Nature Diet Rabbit and Turkey. It was great and both dogs were well with their poos being firm! Then for a while I could not get any and eventually I was able to re-order it. The new version is dreadful, both dogs were very poorly with runny poos and were sick as well. The food is greasy and wet and the texture is completely different to the original Nature Diet. I do not know why you have changed such a winning formula. I see lots of people are telling you how awful the new version is. I will not be ordering Nature Diet until you go back to the original recipe in the future.

“New Naturediet and upset tummys”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/12/2014

We have been feeding our dog naturediet for almost a year now. It was great, she liked it and it suited her delicate digestive system - a win win. Then something changed at naturediet. Luckily our supplier warned us that other owners were now experiencing problems with their dogs' toilet after they had eaten the new naturediet. We tried just one pack. Our dog was sick in the night and again the next day, and her toilets were very loose. So disappointing. Not prepared to risk it again!

“Not good for my dogs since changing ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/12/2014

We have had our two cocker spaniels on ND since we got them and it was fantastic but the change this year has been terrible, it made my dogs really ill and there stool was so runny they could not be walked till they had done there business in the garden. I have left a few comments on there page but they are not being approved , they only seem to be showing the few positive comments, i am so disappointed and have still not found anything that suits my dogs as this product originally did why change something that was so good and is now clearly not.

“naturediet ruined”

★☆☆☆☆

written by slipperlady on 24/11/2014

I am gutted,my dog has been on naturediet for a long time she loved it, her toilet was normal, no tummy problems etc. Now for some unknown reason it is being cooked different,it looks different it smells different & the consistency is different, worst of all my dog now has an upset tummy & loose poos. why change a good thing ? its beyond me. I know 5 people who have stopped feeding their dog naturediet, how many others are there? To be honest I am really upset over this.

Andrew.larner.7's Response to slipperlady's Review

I agree. My two dogs have been using NatureDiet for years. With the way the new pack is sealed you can't tell if any air has got in as they all look as if they have rather than the old vacuinn packed style. The new formula causes stomach problems and diarrhoea. Would like to know what others are changing to.

“gives my dog the runs”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 1982McKenzie on 22/11/2014

Have been feeding my dog this for the past 3 years only to find it is now completely different its much runnier with a gravy and it just does not agree with my poor westie, it gives him gas and the runs, ive tried feeding him just chicken for a while to settle his stomach and then ween him onto the naturediet but he just gets the runs again, gutted. For a company who is supposed to pride itself of catering for the sensitive dog, how rude they couldn't even let us know a new recipe was happening, a note in a box of food would have helped, I will no longer be feeding my dog this greasy mush!!

“Naturediet downgrade their product”

★★☆☆☆

written by ColinAck on 08/11/2014

The food recently changed. It is wetter and gives my dogs the runs. He cannot eat it without it sticking to the roof of his mouth. Ingredients say its the same but its not. Packaging is easier to open but I don't care if its not the right food for my dog.

“Why the Change?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kessigirl on 05/11/2014

I have been feeding these products to my dog for the past eight years and suddenly its all changed. Its now sloppy and greasy and the packs break so food goes off. I am very unhappy with the new product and my dog would say the same if she could. I will be changing to find some thing else that appropriates the previous product. I have tried a few products and although they are dearer I need something that I feel is right for my dog's digestion and does not give her the runs as this new food is doing. I have seen other reviews and it looks as if I am not the only one who is upset with the changes.

“WHY CHANGE SOMETHING IF IT ISN'T BROKEN?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Jojo773 on 01/11/2014

I have been using Nature Diet for 18 months (chicken) & found it amazing as my dog is sensitive to certain foods. I have been having a monthly subscription from Amazon so I always have a good stock in & have recommended it to many of my clients and friends. To my HORROR they have not only changed the recipe - it is now thick gloopy & sticky (yuck) but the packaging is substandard and many packs had blown. The smell was revolting and unfit for consumption - what an utter waste of money. I can only hope that enough loyal customers complain and refuse to buy this muck so that the company will have the good sense to revert back to their original recipe & packaging. I shall certainly not be recommending this product any more. Disappointed is an understatement!

Gariford's Response to Jojo773's Review

Written on: 08/11/2014

Jojo, Thanks for posting your comments; I've found this very helpful and also very concerning.
A while ago I purchased this product in bulk and have found a few blown packets so far upon opening a new box (from the range of adult dog).
I'm keeping a close eye on the rest of them and am about to write to the wholesaler requesting they seek assurance that the remaining unopened packages are safe for consumption even though not (yet) showing signs of being bad. It's certainly a worry to think that bacteria could be there but not sufficient (again 'yet') for the food to start fermenting.
I won't be buying again. What alternative food/s have you started using?

“Bad service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by NadiaSimmons on 19/10/2014

I have been using nature diet for a while and it's been great but they have changed the packaging and recipe recently and it's terrible. Several packets had blown with the contents spilling out and the consistency is not as good as it used to be. I have contacted them but they do not reply to e-mails so I will try ringing them. I think they must be inodated with complaints . They have made a big mistake changing the food and I will not be using it again .

“Disappointing change in product”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 18/10/2014

I have been buying Nature diet for my dogs for the past 3 years and have always been more than satisfied. The last batch of 6 boxes I bought was different. Food consistency was softer and it has a stronger smell . I was advised that the production method had changed but it's certainly not for the better. As other customers have commented I have had blown packs which smell revolting as they are off and the juices from the poor packaging has contaminated the others. In addition one of my dogs now frequently has an upset stomach. A coincidence perhaps but I think not ! I will be contacting their customer services again next week to request a refund for remaining pouches but I will not buy it again as the quality is now poor. My advice to new customers would be not to try it as it is unpleasant - manufacturers cost cutting perhaps ?

How would you say the quality of your food has improved? What happened in 2014? I have read loads of bad reviews. I use their dog food but considering changing to natures menu. Please convince me not too.

How can this company producing Natures diet, still not take any action regarding their poor packaging. How is it still getting such a good review and value for money status?

Out of a box of 18 I could only open two so I know how you feel, such a good food with such useless packaging amazes me, I really don't think having to cut it open is on.
