The flight was exceptionally uncomfortable. The seat pitch is very narrow, Quality of the chair is very poor.
The food was below average, in comparison with other asian airlines.
The service was 3/10, due to lack of smiles from the cabin crew
Considering that it was a long haul flight, I thin JAL should improve their in-flight service.
The only good thing was the entertainment centre and the superb skills level of the pilot (smooth landing)
However, I still would recommend JAL over Qantas if you are looking for a direct service from Sydney - Tokyo.

The service was the best I experienced in any airlines. Although the food was good overall, it was best between Tokyo and Hanoi. Possibly JAL had to accommodate western palate in their flight from the US. Alcoholic beverages included Japanese sake which is a big plus.- Read Guest's review (46 words)

This trip of mine from Manila to Tokyo is one of the smoothest I've ever taken from a total of more than 50 flights. But the ticket is very costly, good thing my sponsored paid for it otherwise I cannot really afford flying through Japanese airlines.- Read jjkolian's review (87 words)
