i went to pay a bill with money gram online, i realized that i made a mistake and asked them to help me fix it and they said they could not do anything for me. the customer service in this company is the worst i have ever seen. I use the Walmart MoneyGram online https://walmart.moneygram.com. Fast and easy. I don't have to drive to Walmart to do the transaction. I use a credit card that does not charge cash advance fee. NEVER use your debit card. NEVER! Just set up your account making sure the name of the receiver is spelled correctly. The website takes your credit card info but when you try to send money, nothing happens. And you can't login to your account. What happens to the CC info? Now I have to change my CC because I don't know if the info has been compromised. NEVER WILL USE MONEYGRAM. I ended up using Western Union - it was the same cost and no problems. I was trying to send money to my wife so she can pay her bill and fly home. instead this company for the past 4 days every time she goes by to pick up the money they say the system is down and that they are working on it. They won't tell her anything now she is going to be sitting in the airport or worse on the street because MoneyGram won't do anything to resolve the issue. But when I went to claim my cash in Moneygram in Metrobank, Anonas, Quezon City, what came out was my incomplete name and said that I could not claim it because the transfer was only for a dude that had MY name, minus my second first name. I tried to send money to my wife in Brazil. She could not take the money. They said there were problems in the "system" and that they are going to "investigate". Two days are gone and they say that they will take at least two weeks to know what it is going on. The thing is that the 10 minutes transfer is rubbish and that your are lucky if you receive yor money. At least in Latin America it is not working. (read more)

“Fantastic Service”

After sending some money to my aunt to Turkey, the money was not available for her because one letter in her name was written false. After writing an email late in the night, within 5 minutes I received a phone call from the States. They even offered me a german interpreter. After correcting the name they even offered to send the fees back. All marketing professors can use this as an excellent service example in their lectures. (read more)

My son recieved a moneygram as payment for a car. The moneygram was paid for at the local walmart. He has gone back four, FOUR times to try and get payment.This last time he brought a passport, drivers licence, social security card, and a birth certificate. No Joy. You can't send money anywhere in minutes because people on the other end have a ridiculous time getting it if it's in an amount more than $899. I've wasted more than an hour trying to get paid for a business transaction. Nowhere on their website does it say that certain locations, in fact, most locations, are unable to pay out more than $500 or $899. I spent over 40 minutes in their phone tree just to find that out. This company has entirely too much info about the average person. When I got the the final screen to send money to my daughter they asked a series of personal "Security" questions that had nothing to do with security and I have no idea how they got the info that they did to ask these questions. I just wanted to transfer a small amount of money to a family member in need. It cost me $54.95 to send $30.00! Seems that Moneygram not only charges you the $4.95 - they are processing the money as a cash draft from your account - this costs a minimum of $20 from my credit card company. I would not give them my banking information (new and did not trust them) and I am now so glad that I did not. These are crooks and I will not use them again!!! Sending moneygram is fine, just make sure the recipient has all the details to collect, easy to text. Fill in the forms in advance and just go to the post office. Been sending from uk to Jamaica for years. I know it's much slower for the recipient but at least the money gets there safely and quickly. (read more)

My father was sent a check for 500 dollars from a relative in Oklahoma, for one he cant find ANYWHERE in MA to cash this check, so he called them up and basicly said "F**k you, i've got nothing" and called fraud on him, and by taking the money in the process without refunding. I can't take my money in Moneygram who sent by my family in my motherland just because I don't have Italian fiscal code to fill in the form which I don't have it due to my short terms here!!!!! 1. They only have a limited number of locations. Had to drive several miles to reach an establishment to claim money. 2. Money Gram requires you to call in order to receive funds. Do not use MoneyGram. Besides them being rude, they rip you off. Western Union is the way to go. At all cost, stay away from their rep Greg in escalations. Real loser! I got a moneygram for payment. Could not cash it anywhere, even the WALMART store where it was purchased would not cash it. These thing are F#%$&ING worthless. I work for the fraud department in a large bank. One of our customers deposited 2 of your money orders and I tried to verify the Money Orders had cleared. I called the number for verification and was left on hold for over 40 minutes. My experience is that receiving banks in Thailand make up extra requirements for information the recipient must provide before the bank releases the money from a Moneygram. According to Moneygram, identification and the reference number are all that are required. I use MoneyGram a lot. Ok, fine. Until you need customer service. My experience is often rudeness, obnoxiousness, and vindictiveness. I just had two bimbos deliberately put me through to non-working numbers that keep you on hold forever, then just ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. This has happened more than a few times. There are few methods available to send money to Eastern Europe. MoneyGram, begrudgingly, will send your money but only after multiple phone calls, hours on hold, and suffering through the bad attitudes of the customer service reps. I made an account, tried to send money, and enter all of my information when prompted. I did everything correct and they said an error took place and that I had to call customer service. I got another email from them saying the transaction got cancelled and I had to go into the store. I sent money from USA to Poland selecting an option of direct deposit to my mom's account in Poland. I got reference number same day. Me and my mom have been waiting for the money to appear on her account for 8 days already. Customer service is helpless and doesn't answer my questions. I will need to cancel the whole transaction and get my money back. Next time I'll use Xoom, or Western Union. Money Gram promises quick and convenient service, but to me it's just a big SCAM! This company has to be the worse by far. Their customer service is slow and poor. After completing a full transaction (waiting 30 mins for approval), I had to call to find out that I couldn't use my debit card because my maiden name was on the card which was different from the name I signed up with my online account. MoneyGrams are easy to buy. Probably due to generous fees.
Just attempt to cash them, however. Those same agent refuse to convert the paper into greenbacks.
The toll-free number lists "agents" but not agents who cash MG orders. Banks won't touch them.
Moreover, there is no way to contact a company agent for help.
A tip: Go to the USPS.
