“Magimix kettle leaking”

Written on: 20/05/2013 by Gizzybeard

We purchased a Magimix kettle as It looked good quality and the price certainly reflected this too. However after 3 years we noticed the kettle was leaking from the base on to the electrical base unit and worktop. We rang Magimix and they were aware of the problem but said it was out of warranty so they couldn't replace. This is a known problem. (read more)

“Disappointing Magimix Kettle”

Written on: 18/05/2013

I give this kettle one star because it looks well on the worktop and has a good capacity, that's where all the positivie comments end. I bought a Magimix Kettle (stainless steel with cream inside handle), during a 25% off event at Debenhams. Staff assured me that there was nothing wrong with it and I was delighted to save a few quid. I brought the kettle home and put some water in it to boil, around half full, it seemed to reach boiling point very quickly but didn't shut off and I was a bit... (read more)

“Expensive rubbish”

Written on: 26/04/2013

I have nothing good to say about these kettles - the first one I bought developed a fault in the lid which meant it flew open during boiling and then didn't switch off automatically. I was sent another kettle under the guarantee but 18 months on this has started to leak from the bottom and around the electrical connection to the kettle. I rang to complain again and was told that as my original guarantee on the first kettle was now just out of the three year period they did not have to... (read more)

“Leaking!”

Written on: 14/04/2013 by Bollydolly (1 review written)

Have had my magimix kettle for about 18 months. I really wish I had paid attention to other reviews. It's now leaking at the base and has ruined my beech work top. Rubbish! There is also a lot of lime scale build up around the handle and water gauge, I live in a soft water area, so this has been unexpected to say the least. (read more)

“broken lid - again!”

Written on: 12/03/2013

Purchased one of these a few years ago as it was fast to boil and, at the price, was hopefully of the appropriate quality...........wrong! The lid came off within about 1 year of purchase (plastic base (hinge)connection snapped)(As an aside we handle things (our household items)with care - so no 'fair wear & tear' here) Good old Comet changed it for us without a quibble. Lo & behold - a year or so later - ditto i.e.lid broke - same problem Law of averages says there must be hundreds of... (read more)

“Poor Quality”

Written on: 07/03/2013 by LBreview

I bought this kettle in 2008. From the start the lid was difficult to open. Toward the end of 2012 it started leaking around the handle. I now have an unsightly limescale buildup round the handle which needs attending to on a regular basis and is getting worse. Magimix UK have no interest in helping saying its a non repairable part and its out of warranty. So thats £80 for 4 years functional life. Very poor value. A pity as the stainless steel parts are perfect. A small re-design would make... (read more)

“Great Kettle by Magimix”

Written on: 05/03/2013 by Timlikestea. (1 review written)

After reading the reviews on the Magimix kettle Id like to stand up for Magimix as mine has been fantastic for over four years with none of the problems other users have had or any other problem. Until now, somehow the lid closes a little to one side allowing some steam out thus possibly prolonging shut off when it boils. Yes ! ive tried fixing it with a screw driver and popped the lid off (broke it more like. So Ive bought a new one, the same, as I think they are by FAR the only kettle to... (read more)

“Worst kettle I've owned”

Written on: 01/02/2013

We had a new kitchen and wanted stylish new appliances, so very expensive Magimix was chosen. It was by far the most money I have ever spent on a kettle, and it's predecessor still worked well after 15 years but did not look the part in the new kitchen. John Lewis supplied it with a 3 year guarantee. After 18 months it began to leak at the base and was replaced. No. 2 lasted about a year and then leaked in the same place. No.3's lid was very slow to open and close compared to the others,... (read more)

Written on: 02/02/2013

Yup, we have had the same kettle for four years and had to go back to John Lewis twice for leaking at the base and a sticky switch problem. John Lewis great, product quality dreadful (especially for the price) and if we didn't have a matching toaster (same brand, actually working fine) then we'd have junked the kettle.

I'm surprised John Lewis still sell it, but they are probably unaware of the numbers being returned to Magimix direct. I gather from some of the comments on this site that some people did not realise it comes with a 3 year guarantee, so have not claimed and binned it after a year. It would almost have been cheaper to go out for every cup of tear for the year! Shame on Magimix.

“Magimix stainless steel kettle and toaster”

Written on: 23/01/2013 by Scottishcarol (1 review written)

This is my very first online review but feel people should know about these items. Purchased kettle, toaster and coffee machine to fit in with new kitchen. Toaster has been replaced once and broke again. The handle wouldn't go down and the crumb tray wouldn't go in. Husband has fixed it but we had to purchase the parts and fit ourselves. Kettle has had no end of problems. Leaking, handle gets too hot to hold, lid iis loose and the light flickers on and off. Contacted magimix and they... (read more)

Mrt333's Response to uneak444's Review

Written on: 20/11/2012

My first Brushed Stainless Steel Magimix Kettle developed a sticking lid within 6 months of use, very shortly resulting in it being jammed shut. Upon eventually managing to prise the lid's cover off (not recommended normally for obvious "health & safety" reasons), I found that the ratchet mechanism of poor internal design and worn, i.e. cheaply made. Having cleaned the kettle and perfectly replacing it all back together, the lid remained jammed shut once more. I continued to use it until the scale filter fell inside the kettle and had to be filled up via the spout. The water level markings faded and I used guess work when filling it up. The rubber seal of the lid became hard and allowed steam to escape when boiling, prolonging switching off (another safety issue here.) This kettle is 1 year old.
I bought a second one from John Lewis (not contacted them yet) because Magimix had modified the sticking lid problem. In looks it is identical except instead of the original heavy excellent quality rubber lined handle, it is now of hard black plastic and the lid's rubber seal is thinner and shaped so that it doesn't snag near the back where the handle is, when opening/closing. However, the base of the kettle leaks as does the handle, switches, etc. It appears to me obviously due to poor quality control and that the whole kettle needs to be re-designed. Don't make the same mistake I made in hoping extra heavy weight equates with quality of build, especially when it really is design over function. Early Siemens Porche designed kettle is a case in point. It still looks great but I will be spending my money elsewhere on a kettle that can safely deliver on function instead. AVOID!

Written on: 19/11/2012

I am on my 3rd replacement kettle, 1st one the lid broke, second one blew up, third one was dead out of the box. This has got to be a brand damaging product for Magimix as a brand normally associated with quality and durability, I know people that have had their food processors for 20 years. Also giving it a 3 year guarantee makes you think it is a quality product. Written on: 14/11/2012 by mooreview

The brushed steel kettle looks good but that's where it ends. What was I thinking spending £70 (2010), it leaked after 12 months. I ditched my mum's faithful but ugly 10 yr old cast off, which was working fine, light not so noisy. Magimix was very heavy even when empty. VERY NOISY! Although I am keen to keep the utilities down, I'm going to buy the first £10 kettle I see and enjoy my cuppa. (read more)

Written on: 31/10/2012

We've had one of these kettles for about three years now and are on our third! The first one developed a leak after 18 months. The lid-hinge broke on the second within a year. Magimix were very helpful and replaced both of them. The current one needs descaling once a month (even though the amount of limescale is miniscule) or the thermostat doesn't work and it turns off before boiling. Definately not worth the expense. Written on: 26/09/2012

The kettle performed well for 2 years but then the lid wouldn't close properly due to the rubber seal catching (it's poorly designed) then the lid refused to close at all, despite usually filling it from the spout (so not regularly opened). John Lewis offered to replace it as it was within the 3 year warranty, but on their advice I've got gift vouchers and will buy another product. We were given one as a Christmas present, unfortunately without the receipt, otherwise I would be beating a path to Comet's door to demand a refund!. “Poorly made”

Written on: 27/06/2012 by SePu (1 review written)

For a kettle that costs the best part of £80, this product performs very badly. Our first one leaked boiling water (from the reviews I can see this is common), and the replacement developed a faulty lid catch (again, from the reviews, also common). Unfortunately, this happened just after the warranty ran out on the original purchase. Since Magimix don't count the replacement as a product in its own right for warranty purposes, we aren't covered by warranty despite the fact neither kettle... (read more)

I purchased our Magimix kettle 2 1/2 years ago. I was assuming the Magimix name would ensure a quality kettle and also liked the style and cream coloured trim. However it leaked from the base after 18 months and upon tolerating this for 6 months, then noticed the inner stainless steel was rusting even though I had always used filtered water. The second has barely lasted a year - the lid has become unstable and will not fasten. Both these faults have already been reported on this site - so not unique to us. Researched all the shops to buy this kettle, but wished I'd just read all the online reviews of this kettle. Within a short time (approx 6 months) the lid began malfunctioning. When it is almost up to the boil it pops open and has to be held down in order for the automatic switch off to work when the water is up to temperature. Bit pointless really! With all brushed steel finished devices, they get a bit dull after a while.

I found a great way to clean them up nicely is to use some soap and water to get all the dirt off first, then use some WD40 on a cloth and rub it in nice and hard.

Enjoy your "Brand New" Kettle ;)

Written on: 05/09/2010

Very disappointed with this kettle. Kettles don't seem to last very long these days but having spent quite a lot on this one, I expected it to go longer than just over a year. From the beginning, the lid hasn't opened properly, particularly when the kettle is hot. The filter is rather flimsy and tears very easily. There has been scale around the water level indicator, suggesting that the seals are not effective but now it has started leaking from the base. Would not recommend. Looks... (read more)

Bought this lovely looking kettle and within a month had problems with it switching off before boiling. Need to switch on to boil about 10 times to get water for a drink and have resorted to an old fashioned hob kettle that whistles when ready. Coupled with that the problem with the opening switch that others report took about a week to manifest itself. This magimix kettle was a complete waste of money and I would never buy any of their products in future. Clearly, looks can be deceiving. (read more)

Bought this kettle thinking it would last as made by a reputable company - it hasn't lasted long, two years! Its leaking and lid sticks. It is not easy to get filters for either. (read more)

We're a working couple on or third kettle now. The 1st was returned as the numbers rubbed off, the 2nd returned as the lid button stopped functioning, the 3rd one now has a problem with switching itself off before boiling and we have to press the on button about 3 times per boil. Customer services have been great and replaced the kettle every time without fuss, however we're out of warranty now so we'll have to live with the dodgy button. True the kettle is loud but very very fast and... (read more)

Bought it. The lid would not open when hot, and the switch only worked if you jabbed it smartly.

Took it back. Got a new one. Lid opens fine. Lovely smooth action on the switch. Until it totally breaks. On day two...

With some trepidation will be getting version 3 on monday... (read more)

We have hard water and have gone through many kettles, mainly due to the filters breaking and not being able to replace them.

The kettle came with a normal filter and when we phoned Magimix to ask if we could get a replacement filter they sent a metal one free of charge.

It's so easy to clean the kettle and we are really pleased. (read more)
