Good Points: It cuts through 2cm+ branches with ease.
Three separate start levers at different handle positions - very useful.
The blade stops almost instantly when the start levers are released.

Bad Points: It quite heavy so would be tiring to use for long periods
It is quite expensive when compared to similar models of other makes

General comments: I used the Makita UH6540 hedge trimmer on our old beech hedge. It cut through thick branches with ease, making the job very quick. It was quite heavy to handle when cutting the top of the hedge whilst standing on a ladder, but the cutting process was so quick that it wasn't a real problem. I haven't had experience of many hedge trimmers, so I don't know if the additional cost of this one is really worth it, but if you want to make sure you have a hedge trimmer that is going to do the job, I can highly recommend the UH6540. Also note, the UH6540 is the top electric motor hedge trimmer model that Makita do. There are other similar models with shorter blades or a smaller motor which are cheaper and lighter, so I would imagine you could find a Makita hedge trimmer to suit your needs.

The Makita UH6540 hedge trimmer is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I bought one recently for home use, although I have around 100m of high hedges to get through.

This little beauty cuts through the hedge like a 'hot' knife through butter. I've never done the whole lot so quick!

Having had experience of Makita tools years ago (industrial hammer drills) that knocked the spots of everything else even then, I still had to be convinced, but after some research I went for it, and I am n ...
