“mazda bongo friended.”

★★★★★

written by Bragg332 on 19/04/2016

A specious wagon with very comfortable interior suitable for families and as a school bus. The appearance is amazing as it has clear solid lines which describes a handsome vehicle which anyone likes to give a second glance. The 2L engine is durable and taking advantage of its rear wheel differential traction which is good in all roads. If you own one, keep it.

Ideal family car. Very comfortable interior and it has a very handsome exterior. Its sounds great when properly serviced and maintained. It is spoiled with some clear solid lines which makes it a very handsome car. Uses rear wheel drive which makes is to drive on all roads.

“Still going strong”

written by KernowBongo on 17/06/2012

We have owned our Bongo 2.5TD 4WD for 7 1/2 years and its quite simply part of the family. We have such fun in it. This is probably due to its incredible versatility. Its a camper, mini-bus, does trips to the dump, can carry quite large item of furniture, plus more. Fairly basic to maintain. We did have a cylinder head go on us two years ago, but then she is 17 yrs old! This is a great family car and kids always seem to shine to them. The only downside really is the poor fuel consumption. Having said that i can't see us getting rid of her at any time in the near future. The Bongo Fury club provides a forum and great support so sorry VW owners but we're here for the long term.

written by dizzymaid on 28/08/2011

hi, bongo owners, This is a great campa van, we bought our first van a few mounths ago and we think it is great, we also had a awaning made for it in a lovely blue, but because we are in our 80's we couldnt manage to put it up, so we would like to find anyone that would be interested in buying it, we are very sad to see it go as we paid £675 for it selling it for 300, if possible, we are out a lot in our van and love it, happy camping ann

“The Mazda Bongo Friendee ! ”

★★★★★

The Mazda Bongo Friendee !
Owned for 4 years done 100,000 km, only regular maintenance, no breakdowns, no problems with electrics, auto is great, best 4 speed I've driven, the 2.5 TD engine is a torquey workhorse, some describe it as weezy and noisy, but if you look at the sound deadening in the van, there is a lot of room for improvement! Once proper sound deadening it put it strategically, its way more refined!
Lots of verstility for seating, particularly as the front seats also fold flat, unlike most other vans.
Get positive comments all the time when down at the beach, and I converted mine myself, with Fridge, hotshower, cooker and lots of storage. Under bonnet there is room for a second house battery, and is easily hooked up. The AFT 'auto free top' is solid, you can stand on it! Has insect mesh and waterproof sides. Has factory mounts for roof racks. electric blinds are standard, and factory 'privacy glass' was an option on these vans.
Handling isn't reat due to the high heavy top, and it does go through sway bar links, but it's a fair tradeoff.

The Bongo drives like a car, can be used on a daily basis and is very versatile. We had ours converted for camping, it sleeps four at a push and two comfortably, add an awning and you have lots of space.
Bongo fury the owners club/forum is very useful for picking up info/parts, basically anything to do with Bongo's.
Once you have driven one you will be hooked. Tel

We have had our Bongo conversion for 5 years and it has never let us down. We have been all over Europe in it and driven in all weathers. Often referred to as a weekend vehicle, we are often away for 3 weeks with no problems at all. We bought it with my husband's retirement 'lump sum' and it has been the best purchase we have ever made. Minor disadvantages. 1. It is too tall for most height barriers. 2. MPG not great (20-25mpg).

Hi,
Is your Bongo a diesel or petrol one? If Diesel what CC? i am considering buying one if the mpg is reasonable. #Thanks for your review. Nev.

We have had our Mazda Bongo a year now, and we are already looking at what we can do to extend her life (e.g. quality replacement components, waxoiling, etc).
She has a few issues, but most we can get fixed as we go.
The kids (6 and 4) both love her, and we have no problem getting them ready to go out when it is in the Bongo. Just cant imagine life without her now!

We bought our Mazda Bongo two years ago. We were looking for a people carrier but also needed something for touring abroad and with enough space to transport items to and from our holiday home. This was more than ideal its great to drive and easier to park than our car. We had some overheating problems but all it needed was a good Bongo garage. I can't praise it enough.

We had a coverted our Mazda Bongo in the UK and loved it, we were very sad when we had to sell it in order to go travelling. The engine was great, we owned it for 2 years and never had any problems. The rear conversion was great, and having a fridge was a really good idea as you can enjoy a cold beer with a BBQ or your dinner. We will definatly buy another bongo.

My mates Bongo engine overheats a lot. It's had a new head gasket fitted and pressure tested but still has to put plenty of water in on long distances. Is this a common fault?

I am seriously thinking of getting a Bongo but am worried about fuel consumption. Has anyone converted theirs to LPG and if so what do you think?
