“Chinese made is not like Italian made”

★★☆☆☆

written by pisiorwisior on 23/09/2014

THIS IS REVIEW OF FLY 50 4T 2011 -------------- Do not buy it. I have two scooters with Hi-per4 engine: Piaggio Fly and Vespa ET4. I use both in the same way. Vespa is Italian made, Fly is Chinese. The difference is VERY visible. Fly is worth of nothing compared to Vespa. This is why: After 13000km and very careful use (no overspeed, no overheat etc.), garage during the winter (+15 deg.C), my Piaggio got these issues: - broken automatic suction - broken speedometer line - broken fuel hose - every 3000km one of vavles stuck (need to be adjusted) - broken turn signal switch - problems with start of unknown reasons During parallel use Fly and Vespa, Vespa had no any problem, even small one. I don't believe to Piaggio anymore since they make scooters in China. And I will never buy any new Piaggio scooter. Old ones ITALIAN made are very good.

“dont buy one”

★★☆☆☆

written by gaz3565 on 20/02/2014

this scooter is a waste of money. I brought mind from new.its now 18 months old. I had the AA out after 1 month as it kept cutting out as I drive along. they found that the reg valve was sticking so that petrol wasn't getting to the engine. had that replaced by dealer. all ok now. then after 8 months the dealer stopped selling piaggio bikes so the nearest dealer was now Maidstone which is 40 mile round trip on a very busy A road. when the bike was 14 months old the speedo stopped working. it took 4 weeks too get the parts from Itlay. after 2 days I found out it wasn't reading the correct speed (slower )they replaced parts on the wheel this time. the scooter had only done 2500km. after 2 months the speedo went again. this time the cable has snapped. only 600km done since the last time. also the fuel isn't reading correct. its reading about half a tank more then whats in it. gone back to dealers twice and both times it was reading correct when I took it there. the customer care is crap.they tell u that they will ring back after there tech man speaks to the dealer. that was 2 days ago. they wont even give me some money for the amount of petrol I used going to the dealers.

“Please be aware this a review for the 4T version. ”

Please be aware this a review for the 4T version.

DO NOT BUY THIS MOPED.

If you think you are getting Piaggio build quality you're really not, I've now sold mine but the bad points are as follows:

-Started very poorly
-Would not work in rain
-Cuts out whilst driving
-Panneling very difficult to work with
-Spark plug impossible to access in under 2 hours
-Very poor headlight
-EXTREMELY SLOW 30mph if you're lucky, 20 max up a hill
-The same fuel economy as my 125cc Yamaha

Good Points

-Looks ok for a 50cc
-Good storage space
-Dealers willing to work on it because parts are available

Piaggio had no idea how to fix the apparently endemic problems with the Fly 50, if you live in a bone dry, flat country then get it if you wish.

My friend bought a chinese scooter for £400 less than my fly50, it was faster, more efficient and more reliable to the point that he still has it.

Good value for money. Reliable so far. Well, the power of engine is a disadvantage, but one should not get too angry with 50ccs

I have just seen this website and comment added by avronb.
I have exactly the same problem with my Piaggio. At the moment it has been at the dealers for 2 weeks and they still can't find the problem. My bike is still under warranty, but according to piaggio the dealer can only fix it while under warranty and the chances of getting a new bike is very little. My bike also don't start anymore and I had various occassions stalling at traffic lights, even whilst driving the thing it stalls in the middle of the road! Not very safe for a girl! arghh!

Like this little bike, and is less expensive than a Vespa. Great on gas, feels very stable even at speed 55 km, great for around town.

Bought new six months ago, bike been back to dealer twice for non starting and stalling at junctions etc.,it is there now as i write this.
Don't be fooled into thinking you are buying an Italian made Piaggio, for if you look on the engine you will see a plate that says made in China. Unless you live in Holland or East Anglia this bike will be total embarrassment .
Two strokes have their faults, but are far more suited to 50cc bikes than four stokes.

Bought new six months ago been back to dealers twice, there now as i write this. This bike is not an Italian Piaggio, but is made in China (plate on engine states this to be so).
Unless you live in Holland or East Anglia this model will be of no use if there are any hills in your area.It is my opinion that a two stroke engine is the only unit to use in a 50cc machine.

Avronb's Response to avronb's Review

Written on: 14/10/2008

I was on the verge of selling my Fly4t when a chap at work told me to get a MALLOSSI variator fitted to the bike, I went to the dealer and he fitted one for £70, worth every penny, will cruise at 40mph, plus acceleration is far better. The variator kit has the same effect as using sport mode on a automatic car.
