“sucks”

Written on: 20/06/2012 by ron58203

Bolts tore through stock 2 weeks after purchase (less than 100 rounds). In other words the stock fell off. Sure, Gamo offered to POSSIBLY replace/repair the gun (after I paid to ship it back to them), but why would I want another poorly designed gun? I am to return this gun every month after the stock breaks? Not to mention the scope had a lot of spherical aberration and the gun was not any more accurate (25 yards) than my cheapo Crossman. I can't help but feel like I was leaned over the... (read more)

“awsome freaken gun”

Written on: 27/05/2012

After putting over 500 pellets through the Big Cat it started to shoot true. Through trial and error i found the the Cometa Exact Heavy is the best for my Big Cat. Getting the scope that came with it dialed in was a chore. However now it is very accurate. Lots of practice got me used to the trigger, which has lots of travel. Now i just pull it back to just the right amount. It now drops everything that i aim at, crows, gophers, starlings, pigeons. I usually shoot from 8 yards to 40 yards.... (read more)

Awesome gun. I got it off pyramid air for $135, and accuracy is great. The gun is fun to shoot. It doesn't take much to zero the scope in and it can kill a bobcat or a very small wolf. I would recommend it. There is nothing I don't like about it. (read more)

This review is to answer all the questions your having if your reading this review. I bought this gun in 2011 and it took less than 12 rounds before it was shooting 1/2 in groups at 35 yards. I am shooting polymer tipped ammo. I also took the scope off it came with a replaced it with a 3x9x40 .22 cal rifle scope and it works great. The noise factor in this gun was not stated and trust me this bad boy is LOUD, almost like a .22 to be exact. It's easy to cock and I love shooting it, for the... (read more)

This gun is the best airgun i've owned yet, ive went through Remingtons, Crosmans and either a few other Gamos and this is the best of them all. The scope is very simple to adjust and the gun itself... WOW. it gets the job done. Any small gam animal isn't too much for the Big Cat. Make sure to get this one if youre considering getting airgun. look no further! Its also very easy to maintain. Although i wish Gamo would provide an attachable belt or strap to carry the gun around your chest. (read more)

I bought my big cat about 2 years ago and im already impressed. it has surpassed my .22 air rifle. the scope that comes with it is whatever, but dies the trick for a few kills. the power is just phenomenal. i match my big cat with red fire pointed tip ammo and completely obliterate small birds and sever crows heads. this ammo is the absolute best i think for this gun not just because its lethal, but it also raises your velocity to about 1256 FPS, (going on the information on the ammo itself... Whether you are an expert or amateur this gun will leave you in awe. I am out to kill all crows in the neighborhood due to the fact that they carry West Nile virus and absolutely destroy song bird babies. Over the past 5 years my score is 3000. I can generally score 6 or 7 a day in a radius of 5 miles. I am sighted at 75 feet and have killed at 47 yards. (measured by hand held Nikon range finder.) I love the Gamo Big Cat 1200 ive had it for 2 years and ive killed over 100 squirrels easily. The Big Cat has enough power at 60 yards to punch threw a mellimeter thick steal plate and put a nice dent in a concreet block. I have killed coyotes, birds and rabbits.
With PBA ammunition it can go threw a piece of wood on a fence. But it does have a 2 inch pattern so its not the most accurate air rifle at that range. Foe the price of $135 this is a great gun and i would reccommend this to any of... (read more)

The Big Cat is 5 stars on everything except the scope. Before you start shooting. Invest in a good scope with a one piece mount and recoil pin. An amazing toy, I bought one for myself this Christmas and could not be any happier. The only complaint is it is a bit on the loud side, however that is due to the extreme power of the air rifle. The pellet breaking the sound barrier is the crack that you hear, and short of using heavier, slower loads there is no way around this noise.
I give it 5 stars!!! And would recomend this air rifle to anyone looking for a solid, accurate, lightweight hunting rifle. This air rifle fits the bill nicely! (read more)

Ive had this rifle for a good two years now (im 15).The scope with it is decent, but its no Leupold... but who would spend 200+ bucks on a scope for a 100 $ rifle? It was hell to sight in(like most scopes)but after a tin(500)of crossmans this rifle was both broken in and well sighted. you must watch as every 200 rounds of lower qual ammo the flier will go and knock out your cars tire.;) This rifle can (and has) taken out... I bought the Big Cat for $130 (USD)from a dealer that isn't paying me to tell you their name ( so I won't ) It is undoubtedly the best air rifle I have ever used. It has enough power to take any small game I can think of, and the accuracy to put the pellet in said game. I am 15 and can kill a bluejay with it at 50+ yards offhand, so anyone who has been shooting for a while can really tap into the awesome accuracy of this gun. I am very pleased with my new Big Cat 1200 by Gamo. The first thing I noticed is how light it is. It took no time to sight the low-end scope and put lead on target with roughly 2" grouping at 35-40 yards. Thats more than likely from my lack of shooting skills. The best pellet so far for me is Beemans Cro-Mag hollow point. I have been taking down crow sized birds at approx 30 yards without much drama. For the price, you can't go wrong. I have had this Gamo Big Cat 1200 gun for a week. I got it because of a squirrel problem in my back yard, have killed about 8 of them at 30 yards, the problem is that after about 5 shots I have to re-sight the scope, all the bolts are tight so I think the scope is not that great. I had the same problem, it occurs because the spring hitting forces the scope the other way. The way to fix this is to buy blue thread locker, just go to ace hardware or home depot, don't get "red thread locker" that is for permanent use only. Put the blue thread locker on the threads of the screws that screw into the mount that hold the scope on the gun then screw them in. And also put a small piece of black electrical tape behind the furthest scope mount to see if it still moves, oh and after you put on the thread locker give it like 5 hours to dry it usually it doesn't take that long but just to be safe leave it for 5 hours. Hope this helps!

I returned a Gamo Recon because I was unhappy with the accuracy and erratic velocity. The Big Cat is a very good rifle for the money. I too have the Big Cat, having problems with sighting after using for awhile-did get help from customer service only it didn't take care of my problem. Possibly needing to upgrade the scope; only can't seem to find a good selection in the gamo site. Is it possible to find out from Braulio what he is using now. Sure would appreciate a suggestion.

For a little over 100 bucks this is a great rifle, especially if you purchase the newer ones. The quality of the parts have improved drastically and the heavy trigger seems a bit lighter from the models older by about a year or more. It does have quite a heavy recoil in the beginning (it has a heavy factory tophat), twang and vibration but it should start settling down after a few dozen rounds.
