“Dont buy hotpoint”

written by bigray on 29/12/2012

Old washing machine was a creda, had it 15 years and used daily, replaced motor brushes and a door seal in that time at a cost of £25. Hotpoint seemed a good machine, bought to match the rest of our silver future range of appliances( fridge freezer, small freezer and oven )bought british to support local jobs, worst machine we have had, cost over £350 but after the first year give nothing but trouble, stopping mid cycle, pumping fault, no final spin and then bearings went in drum, free 5 year parts warranty, bearings can't be replaced so needs a new drum £120. Hotpoint will supply you a drum for free but will charge you £150 for call out and fitting, new machines reduced in argos to £189 ,what would you do...hotpoint fridge freezer whine's, smaller freezer constantly freezing up and oven fan motor rattles, think i will buy german (bosch) or whirpool(whirpool condensor tumble dryer 17 years old and going strong £20 for heating element in its lifetime )...hotpoint...never again

“Works fine for me!”

★★★★☆

written by SlipperyJim on 27/09/2012

When our last washing machine died on us three years ago we had been using a kind neighbour's hotpoint aquarius for a week or so and liked it, so we decided to get the 7kg load version. Within a few months there was an awful grating noise from it which turned out to be a bra wire in the drum. The repair man fixed this for free under warranty and showed me how to easily do it myself! Last week, after three years of constant use it wouldn't fill properly and the prewash light flashed. Repair man charged £50 for a new pressure switch and valve set plus £30 labour so total cost of £80 in three years. We use the quick wash programme at 60 degrees and the mixed coloureds wash at 40 all the time and it washes well. I even use the silks programme for my polyester sports shirts. Have used the wool programme for sweaters. It's nice to have a variable speed spin with a very high maximum of 1400rpm. It gets used at least once daily and works fine for us.

“counter weight fell off”

★☆☆☆☆

written by alanjazz on 09/06/2012

WT540 less than 4 years old.the soap dispenser tray gets covered in black mould unless cleaned and dried by hand regularly. The lights flash continuously, so have to keep turning off at mains to reset. The concrete counterweight at the lower front end of the drum fell off! this was due to the fact that the heavy concrete is bolted into soft plastic which over time just breaks away...the spin cycle becomes noisey as the concrete becomes unstable and then the machine becomes unusable when the concrete falls off. I contacted Hotpoint ( indesit owned ) customer service and explained the design fault ( this is not a general wear and tear item ) and what had happened, they were adamant that this was down to lack of maintenance on my part! which is rediculous as who actually strips down their machine in order to check the concrete blocks, which should never actually come loose anyway! they then asked me to pay £130 call out for an engineer to inspect the machine.....what a joke! so I bought a new Bosch washer......much better quality..........do not buy Hotpoint, they are rubbish!

written by on 20/02/2011

I have always had Hotpoint washing machines - for 30 years. This one is poor - very poor indeed. After 2 months- I had the flashing lights issue- the engineer found a lead had dropped out of its connector. 6 months later- it would not extract water - the water outlet valve solenoid has burnt out. 3 mths later the programme will not work. The machine is not fit for purpose. I wonder who actually built & designed this shoddy machine. Reading other reviews it appears that even the bearings are worn out quickly.
I shall not buy another Hotpoint.

written by on 16/01/2011

it is true they do not make products like they used to, who has ever heard of a £300 washing machine needing new bearings after only 19 months, then to be told on the other end of the phone its the type of detergent and water that causes the problem, the only good thing to come out of it is the flat rate for labour (as the machine has a five year parts warranty at no extra cost) steer well clear of hotpoint wt540 as they are owned by indesit changing times means less good quality products and they are not made like the machines of the past

Absolute rubbish do not buy. You do not expect a washing machine to break down after 18 months and all the repair options to cost nearly as much as a new machine - customer services terrible

I have had this machine for 3 years and would never buy Hotpoint again.
It has developed mould in the soap dispenser and down the pipe, which makes the clothes smell and has gone rusty on the front. The door handle broke which cost £70 to fix and now it sound like a warplane when it spins. DO NOT BY HOTPOINT!!

Machine broke down after 6 months, had to open it because we couldn't wait for the repairman, having a newborn. Hairpin in the pump.
Then mold from the dispenser all the way to the rubber gasket (which stays moldy in permanence). 2 years after buying it, the bearing goes!
What is there left. What is wrong with this machine???
DO NOT BUY HOTPOINT!

Our Hotpont WT540 washer is now about 2 years old and gets a full load every other day. It quickly lost it's "silent" running but it has settled down to be very reliable - not silent, but still very quiet. Recently it developed a worsening thumping which, on spin began to sound like a low flying helicopter. This cotinued to worsen to the point where I could stand it no longer. I had a quik look underneath and cured it by tightening up the bolts fixing the concrete block to the bottom front of the drum. It is a bit awkward loosening the front cover enough to get a spanner in, but 1/2 hour later it seems to have cured the noise. Fingers crossed.....

I HAD A PROBLEM WITH ACCESSING THE PUMP FILTER. SO DECIDED TO CALL THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DESK.. I WISH I HADN'T BOTHERED. NO ENGINEER WAS AVAILABLE FOR 3 DAYS, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP WAS RUDE AND VERY UN-HELPFULL. AND HER LAST WORDS TO ME WERE "I CAN'T HELP YOU WITH ACCESSING THE FILTER OTHER THAN WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY TRIED SO DO YOU WANT AN ENGINEER OR NOT?"

ALL IS WELL WITH THE MACHINE UNTIL THE PUMP FILTER GETS BLOCKED (WHICH HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN 10 M0NTHS. GETTING THE SEAL OFF THE PUMP FILTER LOCATED AT THE BASE ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER IS EASY HOWEVER REALITY IS VERY DIFFERENT AND ONCE OPEN AN BLOCKAGE IS REMOVED IT IS JUST AS HARD TO CLOSE THE SEAL BACK UP AGAIN.

written by on 27/09/2009

We had our Hotpoint WT540 for just over a year I think, and now it sounds like it is loaded with logs. Had it apart but could not figure out how to access the area of the trouble (the bearing for the drum). The receipt must have been left in the sunshine as it is now just a white peice of paper, so if there was any warranty left, I can't use it.
I'd rather buy a used Zanussi or Miele next time than any of these budget machines. Had a Hoover before, and it also packed up long before expected.

“I found this Hotpoint WT540 washing machine worked...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 08/01/2009

I found this Hotpoint WT540 washing machine worked good for the first few cycles, but then it became louder and louder and took longer and longer to finish the washes, until eventually my washing machine broke down, I bought it less than 2 years ago, I didn't take out the extended warranty, I took the washing machine apart and discovered the belt had come off as it was over stretched. I then read some other reviews and can only say I wish I had read them first, as I have a family of three under 5s and am now without a washing machine!

I would never ever buy another Hotpoint product again!
