Good Points: It's a sturdy, and solid feeling machine. Heavy like a Janome (which I was brought up using), and whisper quiet. Has many useful functions inc needle up/ down, and a walking foot which so far has taken 9 layers of appliquing fabric in one go. It's brilliant for free machining with, although you cannot properly alter the bobbin tension which is a shame. There is a slider to alter the stitching speed, again - great for very intricate work. I also lost the main shank when I had the walking foot mechanism on for about a month, still can't find it. This meant I couldn't revert back to using the ordinary feet supplied. However the UK main dealer in Northampton knew exactly what I was talking about and sent me one out same day for under £4.00 +vat. Servicing takes around a week, and they don't bill you until they are ready to send you the machine back (you must keep your original box though). It costs just £9.00 to post your machine to them, and vice versa, which is very good value I reckon, and I like the fact that they don't try and fleece you. Great service!I have very very little I could criticise this machine on, and would recommend you try it before you buy a Janome or Pfaff, as I have used both and a Husqvarna, and at this level of spend I found this one the absolute best, as well as incredible value for servicing and spare parts.I dare say if kept it serviced this would go 20+ years or more just like my mums old New Home(Janome now) which is still going strong. It has a good feel to it, and I was told on the QT that in Asia where they are built - just like cars do - the big manufacturers often use the same bits for their branded machines. I had never heard of them before I bought, however the try it/ love it or your money back bit convinced me - and I'm so glad I did.

Bad Points: I'm struggling to be picky here, and they aren't big niggles when taken as a whole.Once the machine jams, you tend to have to re-thread either the whole top or bottom threads again and switch off/on. It can be a real pain when you do alot of textile arts for both work & pleasure as I do.....Be careful to put fresh needles in properly or you can break the needle threader - as I did. It was a cheap part to replace, and postage from the head office was pennies - but even so....I have never been able to fit the perspex quilting table on properly, and to this day has uneven legs. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but as that bit came with no instructions I'll never know!Comes with a crappy soft cover bag, but I wheedled a really decent strong sewing machine bag from the store I bought from and its great, I'd recommend you do the same if possible!TRY IT - you'll love it and never part with it - niggles or not!

General comments: I love my Silver Viscount 9000E, I've had it 2 years now with no problems whatsoever. I'd like to see what extra feet etc you can get for it ie. pin tucking foot, and there's no info on this anywhere. The main UK supplier however is generally ultra helpful and their servicing costs are brilliant! I was shocked thinking it would be a fortune and its about £30 + vat. I needed a new automatic needle threader putting on as mine broke, and they say they will be happy to pop one on for me at next service for the cost of the part (about £6.00) + the service. They had a stand at the Harrogate Show recently, and although the lady on the stand was never there, it was good to see the whole range on display. I bought mine from Glenfield Sewing shop, and the chap there was very helpful in every aspect of my purchase. I was originally looking for a Janome Quilters' Companion and he challenged me to spot the difference in quality, build and ease of use - or my money back - and it cost over £250 less than a Janome. I have never regretted buying a Silver Visount, and will happily upgrade to the next model when I'm ready.

The Silver Viscount is a great sewing machine, I really love mine. I am used to a treadle, and still prefer my old one, so my comments may be bias, but I'm still trying to learn how to use and adjust all the different stitches to what I want, but it's very easy to use, easy to thread - I love being able to monogram things, though the letters are a rather small set size as far as I can tell. I love the speed controls, and especially the pressure sensitive foot petal, it's very nice to be able to ...
