I find this car seat extremely heavy just by itself- but add a chunky baby and its pretty back breaking to be honest. Yes, its a very safe and very padded seat, but the weight is quite ridiculous. Its very easy to fit in the car however, although the instructions are pretty minimal. The base makes it very simple to ensure its fitted correctly and I found it no trouble at all. Removing the car seat from the base can be tricky- it gets a bit jammed and takes a few attempts to heave it clear. Its certainly a very sturdy and well made chair- the quality overall is impressive and I feel happy that my baby is safe and sound. The seat is quite deep- meaning that the recommended usage of up until 20lbs (approx 9 months) is really more like 6 months as I find that the shoulder straps aren't that easy to adjust and the baby ends up a bit cramped in time, forcing an earlier than expected purchase of the next stage car seat (group 1). I wouldn't recommend the Primo Viaggio to a friend- theres cheaper, easier and certainly lighter seats on the market and I will choose a different make next time.

I bought this car seat and travel system for my son now 6 with MPX chassis and bought the same again with confidence for our daughter but with X-CEL chassis, the only problem i found was the XCEL chassis doesnt collapse small enough to fit in the car with the pram on top. The car seat is heavy but i wouldn't be comfortable with my baby being in a lightweight car seat anyway. Our baby girls head was a little bit floppy but is fine now and shes only 3 week old, i also prefer it to be more upright ...- Read Guest's review (113 words)

Very happy with the Primo Viaggio car seat! It is nicely padded and has a hood so no need for sun visor on the car window. Only problem is the seat is quite heavy- Read Guest's review (34 words)

From the first trip home, i was so disappointed. Our little boys head was flopping about so i had to hold his head in place. The Primo Viaggio car seat sits so upright & doesnt look comfortable for a baby to lie in at all! I wish i had read some fo these reviews before we brought it. I went to mamas & papas & i said to one of the assistants that the carseat seems so upright but all she said that its been through all of the safety training & that the baby wouldnt sleep in it if he wasnt comfortab ...- Read gemgem 's review (181 words)

This is soooooooooooooo heavy compared to other seats available once baby starts putting on weight it's very hard to carry even for short distances. M & P have you over a barrel if you've bought one of their prams as other seats don't attach to their wheels. It is well padded though.- Read Guest's review (51 words)

The Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat was absolutely fine until as I tightened the straps one day and pulled on them to ensure they was locked, the slipped through, the strap hadn't locked into place, I had to press the button to make the straps lock.
This happened 4 or 5 times, then I returned it to the 3rd party shop which I had bought it from, from this point forward the customer service I received was shocking. They tested the car seat and said they couldnt find a fault so sent it back ...- Read Guest's review (120 words)

Well, I had no problems with this Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat either - it is not as light as one other we used but that other-one was a like a supermarket basket - felt safer without it. Our baby slept in this seat every time we drove and we could take her into the house where she would continue sleeping in it for another 10-30 min. Don't think it's any less confortable than other seats and we used it since new-born to date (7 months). Our baby is a bit bigger for her age so we'll be by ...- Read Guest's review (221 words)

i would recommend this Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat, it is an all in one which pleased me as haven't much spare room, the car seat is very heavy but its more sturdy than a lot of others so should hopefully b safer,
its very stylish lovely and light to push and the grape colour is fantastic, but i had a girl and wanted things to be girly, wouldnt put a boy in it!!!- Read Guest's review (160 words)

I had read the other reviews and do not understand what all the bad press is about, this Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio is an excellent car seat, my son loves it and talks away while i drive! there is plenty of padding and his head is well supported. i also purchased the surfix base which makes the seat very secure and easier to take in and out the car. i would def buy again!!
comfy
easy to fit
straps easy to adjust
seat rocks when on floor- Read nicholaferns's review (87 words)

Mamas and Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat - I worked in the car trade for a number of years so when it came to getting a car seat for our little girl it had to come with an isofix base as i have seen the crash test video with and without isofix and it also had to be quite heavy as the lighter ones are not as safe in a collision.
After looking around at many seat me and my wife decided on the Viaggio Primo seat in black, we thought it was excellent value for money, £150 for the seat and &pou ...- Read dizzyfizzy1's review (240 words and 1 comment)

after reading these reviews i had to say that i have used my primo viaggio for both my children, and they loved it! same as most i found that my newborns head falls forward but from doing research i have found no safer car seat, as its so up right it holds my baby in a safer position in case of an impact, there for i feel that it is worth it, i would rather my baby come out of a accident safe rather then stress that she is not smothered in useless padding. it's well worth the money.- Read jodyberry's review (151 words and 1 comment)

Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat - I made a silly mistake buying this car seat way before my son was even born. I ordered this and the Pliko pramette from the mamas and papas website. I paid £150 for the car seat and then saw the exact same one at Argos for £50 cheaper!
I telephoned Mamas and Papas to tell them and return the car seat but they said in order to do that I had to pay a £10 collection fee and did not seem very helpful so I left it.
Then from the first time ...- Read youngmum83's review (368 words and 1 comment)

My son hates this seat all he does is cry when in it he just doesn't look comfy, for my first child I had a graco car seat and base I loved this, decided to go with mamas and papas for my son what a big mistake wish I stuck with graco, my son is now 9 weeks old and still his head flops about, can't be doing any good for his neck! I've tried the seat with a head cushon and still no joy, in the end I've ended up using the car seat base to tilt the seat back a bit however this means the car seat is ...- Read fran2491's review (141 words and 1 comment)

We bought the car seat with the Skate Pram and Surefix base. The seat was very easy to use with these products. I liked the way you can extend the seat belt as it makes putting my baby into the seat much easier. I also used the 'head hugger' for the first month of having my newborn, this stopped her head from slanting to one side.
Seat looks good and works well with the Skate pram - but not ideal. If it weren't for the pram I would have returned the seat- Read carter936's review (175 words and 3 comments)

Bought a Pilko pramette travel system for my daughter who was 6weeks premature. Found that the car seat didn't seem that safe to me, and not enough padding and support in it in my opinion. I thought the pram wasn't the best to be honest either. we went and bought a maxi cosi cabrio fix to replace it which i honestly have found no fault with, it looks safe, and my baby looked comfy in it with the newborn support it came with.
when our daughter reached 8months (size of a 6 month old) we decided to ...- Read Guest's review (217 words)

I had a Mamas and Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat with my first baby. I was so disappointed with the way my son sat in it that for over a year I argued with Mama's and Papa's to get my money back. I have since purchased a Jane Strata for my second child and she sits in it beautifully as her head does not fall forward!- Read Pinkladywilson's review (106 words)

What a total waste of money and I cant sell it on as I dont believe I could let someone else's baby endure the same trouble as mine.
We have just been and brought a whole new travel system in which my baby can sleep in a comfortable position.
I spoke to my GP about it and he also advised me that no baby should be in the position and it could cause breathing difficulties, it was common sense! Mamas & Papas told me that he is not qualifed to tell me that! WHAT?!?!?!?- Read Guest's review (178 words and 1 comment)
