Like some of you, this is my first child so had no idea about car seats. We bought this car seat to match our Sola travel system - big mistake! I totally agree with all the bad points raised about it being too heavy and my little boy was only 5lbs when he was born so always looked really uncomfortable in it but the major issue I have with this car seat is the adapters to attach it to our Sola frame. We have the ip with the surefix base and we did have a couple of issues with it. The biggest problem for me was the weight, it's quite heavy before baby is even in it! The other problem was trying to use it without the surefix base only to find out that the seatbelts weren't quite long enough. Another small issue was that it seemed to sit a little too far upright for tiny babies. Other than that the seat is good, some of the fabric designs are much more attractive than some of the other... We have had real problems with this seat. We bought it because we wanted one to go with the buggy that we had bought. It relatively expensive and we also bought the surefix base in a desperate attempt to make it fit in the car, which barely helped at all! Don't buy this car seat unless you drive a massive massive car!! (read more)

This car seat is awful - I was given it (thankfully) but I used it once and only once... apart from the car seat being designed for weight lifters to carry it has absolutely no head support for the baby and is far too upright. It's too big to go in most cars as the seat belts don't fit around it (i tried it in my mums car and my OHs car and their seat belts were too short). I don't normally write reviews but I do not like the Primo Viaggio carseat at all, therefore feel strongly enough to write this review. We borrowed this off some friends as their baby had outgrown it, they liked it, I don't. Our baby's curls over in it, as others have said it doesn't support her head. She is very small for a 4 month old and it is incredibly difficult to do up the straps when she has even a cardigan on. It is also too wide for our car (a VW Polo) & the seatbelt is not long... This car seat is so heavy I cannot lift it with my daughter in. Very annoyed at buying it as my friends bought a maxi cosi and carry it around with no problem although they were all shocked at just how heavy my car seat is. Along with this problem is the fact that my daughter struggles to fit into it when wearing a coat or snowsuit of any kind. we purchased the primo viaggio before our first child was born so had no experience with car seats before, we had heard that mamas and papas was good, since we have started to use it we have found it to be very heavy, awkward to sit our baby comfortably to strap in and on one occasion i pushed the release button and pulled on the harness only to have the whole buckle come away in my hand!!!! Having read a lot of the reviews on here they cover a lot of the bad points i wanted to mention, I cant fit this seat on the backseat with another car seat in car as the driver would need to sit on the bonnet to fit it in, so passengers have to sit in the back, Even in the quashqai it takes up an awful lot of room.
also the material isnt very nice against soft skin and because the button bit is so short and awkward I ended up nipping my daughters leg despite always trying to be careful not...

We got this primo viagio car seat to go with our pliko pramette which we liked but the car seat was extremely heavy meaning i needed both hands to carry it, leaving my toddler without being able to hold my hand so that I just had to leave it permanently in the car, I had to buy a seperate headhugger from another company when my baby was newborn because her head would just flop and it is very upright (i think very young babies should be more reclined and there is obviously a convincing... I wouldn't recommend this car seat. I borrowed it from a friend for my first child, who weighed 9lbs, 9oz. I could barely lift it when he was in the seat. It was also quite difficult to remove the seat from its base with him in it.
Instead I bought a Maxi Cosi, which I would highly recommend. Not only is it light, it is also compatible with many buggies and comes in a range of colours.

The one things you need to know about this car seat is that it is increadibly heavy without baby in it.
My son was 9lb when born so very quickly it became a problem to carry him in this and after only a few months we had to leave it in the car attached to the base and put my son in it in the car.
The straps are very difficult to tighten and twist a lot as baby gets older. I purchased this as i had purchased a mamas and papas pram and wanted to use it as a travel combination.

I brought this car seat as it matched my pramette and thinking that as it was mamas & papas it would be great...How wrong was i!!
The car seat itself is heavy, it doesnt tighten very well, the straps always get twisted and when the child gets bigger there is not alot of slack between the legs bit and straps!
I now have a maxi cosi car seat and have found its 100% better in every aspect.

I find this car seat extremely heavy just by itself- but add a chunky baby and its pretty back breaking to be honest. Yes, its a very safe and very padded seat, but the weight is quite ridiculous. Its very easy to fit in the car however, although the instructions are pretty minimal. The base makes it very simple to ensure its fitted correctly and I found it no trouble at all. I bought this car seat and travel system for my son now 6 with MPX chassis and bought the same again with confidence for our daughter but with X-CEL chassis, the only problem i found was the XCEL chassis doesnt collapse small enough to fit in the car with the pram on top. This is soooooooooooooo heavy compared to other seats available once baby starts putting on weight it's very hard to carry even for short distances. M & P have you over a barrel if you've bought one of their prams as other seats don't attach to their wheels. It is well padded though. (read more)

The Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat was absolutely fine until as I tightened the straps one day and pulled on them to ensure they was locked, the slipped through, the strap hadn't locked into place, I had to press the button to make the straps lock.

Well, I had no problems with this Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat either - it is not as light as one other we used but that other-one was a like a supermarket basket - felt safer without it. Our baby slept in this seat every time we drove and we could take her into the house where she would continue sleeping in it for another 10-30 min. i would recommend this Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat, it is an all in one which pleased me as haven't much spare room, the car seat is very heavy but its more sturdy than a lot of others so should hopefully b safer,

I had read the other reviews and do not understand what all the bad press is about, this Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio is an excellent car seat, my son loves it and talks away while i drive! there is plenty of padding and his head is well supported. i also purchased the surfix base which makes the seat very secure and easier to take in and out the car. i would def buy again!!

after reading these reviews i had to say that i have used my primo viaggio for both my children, and they loved it! same as most i found that my newborns head falls forward but from doing research i have found no safer car seat, as its so up right it holds my baby in a safer position in case of an impact, there for i feel that it is worth it, i would rather my baby come out of a accident safe rather then stress that she is not smothered in useless padding. it's well worth the money. Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat - I made a silly mistake buying this car seat way before my son was even born. I ordered this and the Pliko pramette from the mamas and papas website. I paid £150 for the car seat and then saw the exact same one at Argos for £50 cheaper!
I telephoned Mamas and Papas to tell them and return the car seat but they said in order to do that I had to pay a £10 collection fee and did not seem very helpful so I left it.

My son hates this seat all he does is cry when in it he just doesn't look comfy, for my first child I had a graco car seat and base I loved this, decided to go with mamas and papas for my son what a big mistake wish I stuck with graco, my son is now 9 weeks old and still his head flops about, can't be doing any good for his neck! We bought the car seat with the Skate Pram and Surefix base. The seat was very easy to use with these products. I liked the way you can extend the seat belt as it makes putting my baby into the seat much easier. I also used the 'head hugger' for the first month of having my newborn, this stopped her head from slanting to one side.
Seat looks good and works well with the Skate pram - but not ideal. If it weren't for the pram I would have returned the seat

Yes the head hugger was worth buying. I used it for approx 6 weeks however my Sister used hers for around 4 months with my niece.

sounds fantastic, it's such a new pram i have only ever seen 1 woman with it once! i love it too, thanks for the extra info on the skate. The car seat however, is a shame... the adjustable head hugger in pebble from mamas&papas really does the trick like you said... i have a feeling my little one will be using it for 3-4 months like your niece did!

Bought a Pilko pramette travel system for my daughter who was 6weeks premature. Found that the car seat didn't seem that safe to me, and not enough padding and support in it in my opinion. I thought the pram wasn't the best to be honest either. we went and bought a maxi cosi cabrio fix to replace it which i honestly have found no fault with, it looks safe, and my baby looked comfy in it with the newborn support it came with.

What a total waste of money and I cant sell it on as I dont believe I could let someone else's baby endure the same trouble as mine.
We have just been and brought a whole new travel system in which my baby can sleep in a comfortable position.
I spoke to my GP about it and he also advised me that no baby should be in the position and it could cause breathing difficulties, it was common sense! Mamas & Papas told me that he is not qualifed to tell me that! WHAT?!?!?!?

Hi all, I am looking to buy a car seat for my baby who is due in November. I have ordered the Ziko Herbie pram and would ideally like a car seat that can clip on to the pram. After reading the reviews I am a little scared of getting the Primo Viaggio like I had planned. However I have noticed on the website that the car seat is now meant to be new and improved. I bought this car seat with the Travel system and it didn't fit correctly in our Audi or Toyata Yaris. When we used it to transport our baby home from hospital, she was slumped over as the seat is so upright ( I had to hold her head up all the way home). The seat was also really difficult to fit and the seatbelt only just went round the seat. We had to take the baby out of the seat when refitting it in the car which defeats the object of a travel system.

I agree with all the negative reviews. I had thought that my babies head flopping forward was due to his position at that time not that it is a common fault with the seat. It's been enlightening to read that others have found this to be a problem to. A rubbish product purchased to go with the pliko pramette which ive also found to be an over complicated, expensive but rubbish travel system. Don't get one! (read more)

I would not recommend this car seat to any new or expectant parents as i believe it to be unsafe. Customer care from Mamas and Papas has been poor and when I have raised my concerns about the safety of the car seat I was just told it meets safety standards and they would log my concern - not very helpful when you are talking about the safety of a child. Mamas & Papas deserve everything they get with this product - it utterly fails in its main use and is poor in others. Way too upright, too bulky and too heavy. In my experience It's not right that the carry handle needs two hands to rotate and final straw is the integral baby belt is ludicrously difficult to adjust - the ratchet is literally hidden away. I too agree with all the comments here. From such a good name you'd think they would have one of the best car seats - but no, it's one of the worst! In my experience, a baby just cannot be comfy in this seat - no matter the age. Because it's so upright their head just flops forward and it's unavoidable. Mamas & Papas Primo Viaggio Car Seat is totally unsuitable for a newborn or young baby who has little head control. The seat is ridiculously upright and the head padding is useless. I should mention that our seat is the latest I.P model as I have noticed people asking other reviewers in the comments section, looking at the other reviews that people have given this seat then I would say that the I.P model is a great improvement as we can't recommend ours highly enough.
